Re: Step by step: N900 OVI maps and maploader
a related google maps question:
I have been playing little with google maps and seem to like it. Looks like it is the best alternative for now. In the hover mode, you can double tap to zoom in. But is there a way to zoom out of the map? I couldn't find an option to do that. |
Re: Step by step: N900 OVI maps and maploader
just click on + or - ?!
(not in manipulation/cursor mode) |
Re: Step by step: N900 OVI maps and maploader

Re: Step by step: N900 OVI maps and maploader

Hi
I am trying to locate the .qf file in the root directory to no avail. Can anyone help as need to get it to work on windows 7. Thanks Scott |
Re: Step by step: N900 OVI maps and maploader
i have a some questions:
i checked the cities-folders on my n900 (its on the device itself, not on the sd-card), and its around 600 mb. i downloaded the maps i need (germany for me), and unzipped, they are about 300 mb. so what should i do? i turned off internet (and set it so that the device always asks me whether it should connect or not) and started maps - after dismissing all the internetconnection-requests, maps still would load and show all the german maps. so i already have the maps i need? how do i find out? but its still trying to connect to the internet - why? i saw that i couldnt search for streets when planning a route when i wasnt connected to the internet. so a internetconnection is definitely required even if all the maps are saved on the device? |

For US location, Setting>Location>check Enable and change Location server: to supl.google.com:7276>Save For non US location, ask in this thread. I do not know ther server. Install eCoach. When NOT connect, open eCoach>New activity> will help to secure gps lock faster for a cool lock When Not connect, click the power button on location will help to secure gps lock faster for a warm lock. Go out to the sky is always the best way to get gps lock bun |
Re: Step by step: N900 OVI maps and maploader
Try Location-test application in Devel. Still for testing purpose and get GPS lock though. Worked great on mine and i used it all the time to get GPS lock with OVI map without A-GPS

To use the search function for route, you need to be connected. However, you can search for your destination when online, and save it on the map. And then when OFF line in a car or on the street, you can make route connection from point A to point B as long as you have the saved destination on map. Correct, you need the internet for search, you DO NOT need the internet to use route. I have route to guide me many times. I know it is a little bit tricky, well, still better than not there. bun |

Reboot the device. This would helped if you are using 42.11 firmware but in the latest firmware it still asking, but less prompting. Also: Setting ->Internet Connections ->Always Ask This to preventing any data usage while running GPS. |
Re: Step by step: N900 OVI maps and maploader

Re: Step by step: N900 OVI maps and maploader
Long time listener first time caller etc etc...
Just got map download to work on Win7 Ultimate x64 without even having the phone plugged in. 1. Install Map Downloader. I have version 3.0.28.0 2. Copy from the MyDocs directory on the phone the ".qf" file and the "cities" subdirectory 3. Dump in the root dir of an external USB hard disk or thumb drive 4. Copy the .qf file to qf as well, just to be sure 5. Run up maps I did this to both my external hard drive and a thumb drive at the same time and the app gave me the option of using either. It repoted free space wrong but it did then update the maps I already had and allow me to download more. It's currently in progress, next step will be to copy the folders back to the device. |
Re: Step by step: N900 OVI maps and maploader
Just found another trick: To stop the ovi map from spinning.
The spinning comes from clicking the orange icon. Once touch the icon orange to get your current location in view, then click the icon compass (circle with arrow and N) and set N to whatever you want and touch anywhere on the map to minimize the compass, now the map will stay in that orientation till you touch the orange icon again. You can manually follow your own track, orientation stays the same and would not change. bun |

I can confirm that this method worked for me. http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...3&postcount=46 I had the same problem on Vista 32 bits: changed the Map loader .exe to work as XP mode, connected phone in Mass storage mode, later connected phone in PC suite mode..... and nothing. :( Solution on Vista 32 bits: I tried the method on the above link and it worked out. I actually copy the .qf on my desktop (you need to enable show hidden files and folders in the Folder and search option of your PC), rename it as qf, and put it back into the phone root, tried the phone in PC Suite mode and it worked. Good luck with yours. :) Yanness |

Hi, Could you please tell me how to do that copying of the .qf file? I already tried an other method and entered in X Terminal the command cp /home/user/MyDocs/.qf /home/user/MyDocs/qf Got following reply: cannot stat .qf no such file or directory So that didn't really help. I'm using vista 32. I also have win 7 on other laptop, but wasn't able to load the maploader on it as it already uses Ovi instead of pc-suite. I'd really appreciate if someone could help me with this. |

Re: Step by step: N900 OVI maps and maploader
I got a dose of my own medicine, sort of, ... map loader keeps on "waiting for phone..." Yike! Solution reported...keep reading.
I read that map 3.04 beta is now available, although my Ovi map is working perfectly, I would like to try see whether there is any new improvement. 1) maploader is gone from USA Nokia site. Yes, it is gone. I finally found a link after going thru lots of run-around, and I have updated the link too, but it wont download. Bottom line, maploader is gone, at least today. 2) I went to my own backup, dig out my own copy of maploader, install, reboot, and got stuck with this "waiting for phone..." 3) When all failed, read the manual.. open up my own thread, this one, and followed the instruction, step by step, found out that one had to get USB-mass storage mode goes on 1st, before opening maploader. That solved the "waiting for phone..." problem, I was able to dl maps and update maps 4) I am now re download America 1.9 G and will see whether this is an update from Ovi Maps 1.01 (Maps 0.1.23.112) 5) I read another thread, recently posted, has quite a lot of similarity to this thread but credit was not given, I would call that internet plagarism. Period. WinXP SP3 Map loader 3.0.28.0 N900 3.2010.02-8 bun |
