I though that was the case but worth asking. Currently I'm working on deploying a network infrastructure to support calendar/contact sync @home using syncml- I'll do that just after I guess I can live with [2] for the time being.

I would also like to see future versions having the option to manually move apps to your own categories

Yeah, that would be really nice.

btw: What was changed with the last update? Why is it not possible to see a changelog for updates in HAM for any applications?

0.6.0 consists of two changes in preparation for promotion to extras-testing:
  1. Doesn't raise errors if the theme icons aren't there (e.g. 1.2009.42-11)
  2. Use dpkg -s rather than apt-cache show which should be slightly faster.

There is a mechanism in App Manager to insert a single-sentence summary into a package; but it's impossible to do that based on the version people are coming from. There is a vague plan to try and show debian/changelog on the Packages page, AIUI.

Installed catorise and it seems really nice. I would love if the icons would be little bigger, it seems that there is too much space between the items. But overall, really usefull app :D

Yeah, I would love the icons to be a bit bigger too. Like in the App Manager. Probably hard to achieve though?

my N900 gets stuck in portrait mode when I install catorise. Only comes out of it when I go touse either the onscreen or hardware keyboard. :)

Really a Hildon Desktop issue rather than a Catorise issue.

I like the icons as such, I would instead like the app manager have these small icons :) I think these things are fixed, so if they can not be set through gconf - then computer says no..

mhm... having some issues with this one...

the categories are all correct as far as i can say..

BUT: under "all" there aren't all apps/programs BY FAR! 50% are missing for sure... o.O

SUGGESTION
:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool: :cool::cool::cool::cool:

Just as a suggestion could there be an menu option or integrated into 'my menu' that when a new application is installed the group the application belongs in is higlighted either for a short while after installation or until the app is launched for the first time .... much in the same way that Windows on a PC highlights newly installed programs within the programs bar?
The reason for asking is to easily find the group the app has been allocated to after install?

Re: Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

Not a bad idea... in the meantime, there is already a way to know where an icon has gone if you really can't find it:

Use App Manager, "Uninstall" icon
Find the app by its name
Long press --> "details" context menu
In the details, look at "Category"

Previous version was 0.0.5 and current is 0.6.0, quite a jump there :)

This sounds like #8111; which has been worked around and shouldn't be an issue.

Well, it's more stable than I was expecting :-)

Catorise is now in extras-testing and ready, IMHO, for promotion to Extras:

http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...catorise/0.6.0

Please test against the QA criteria and vote!

Re: Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

Jaffa: Does catorise have a "provides" field? You and manzn should agree upon a common "provides" field so people don't try installing both the Catorise and MyMenu packages.

Maybe a "conflicts" field if you can't agree on something, but that's not as good.

Good idea. Does anyone know HAM's behaviour is you try to install another package which "Provides" the same thing? "Conflicts" works (AFAICT)

i'm late to the party as per usual :)

Have been using Mymenu until tonight, great ideas from both of you :)
Catorise works very well, smallish icons for my liking. But well laid out :)

Assuming there is no more button any more like in others screen shots? as i don't have one :)

there are missing plenty of them.

It's now "Other", as all the labels are taken from the Application Manager.

just the built-in apps are missing.

(as long as there is a shortcut on one of the desktops it's ok. and because the built-in apps are the most important there should be a shortcut. so it's nothing serious in my case. ^^)

Re: Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

pretty important bug: with the new 0.70 version of catorise shortcuts on the desktop stop working. trying to add other shortcuts on the desktop leads to some of them being listed twice in the selection menu (e.g. calendar, calendar, camera, chess, clock, clock, contacts, contacts etc). it started happening after I upgraded to 0.70 from 0.60.

mhm.. wanted to update right after reading view threads including this one... luck :)

can anyone confirm this?

Re: Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

It's a great and needed app. I realized that early when I had several new apps added. I have tried Catorise and it works pretty good. I did however loose my clock in the Show All'-view. Anyone else who had that?

I will wait some more untill the last bugs have been fixed and then it'll be surely on my N900. Great addition!

Yes, but after restart it works.

Indeed. This seems to have exposed Yet-Another-Hildon-Desktop bug in an attempt to fix #8328. There are two options, comments welcome:
  1. Either the apps are listed twice in the "Add shortcut" dialogue and I try and figure out what magic bit of the .desktop file is causing problems this time.
  2. The built-in apps on the first screen (which have X-Maemo-Prestarted=always in their .desktop file) are missing from the "All" menu.

This is bug #8328. And it looks like I'll have to WONTFIX it.

0.7.0 is only in extras-devel. Please, never do an auto-upgrade with extras-devel enabled!

Seems that all built in apps have double shortcuts, one old and one new, and only the new ones work. I switched all my shortcuts to the "new" one :) Quite an interesting bug.

bug is not fixed in 0.7.2.

Actually it does.

i deinstalled the previous one, did a reboot and reinstalled 0.72. everything works properly again.

adancau 2010-01-26 08:25

Re: Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

0.72 is fixed in the sense the homescreen shortcuts now work. if you want to add another shortcut, it would still show some of the applications as duplicates.
i'd say it is usable but i'd wait for a new version to come out.

i love how mine is now.....especially with modded menu transitions:

which are different to screen transitions :D

Yes. Consider it a feature: you can now have Phone on two screens. if you want #8328 fixed you're going to have duplicates in the "Add shortcut" menu. There is nothing that can be done about that, and it isn't going to get fixed.

In my opinion, having "All" contain "all" is more important and so whilst #8111 is an issue in hildon-desktop, duplicates in "Add shortcut" is, IMHO, an acceptable "bug".

Quote:

Well, unless you want to be cutting edge, use the version in -testing. The feedback on the -devel version is appreciated, of course, but I don't expect everyone to be using the -devel version!

Unless other bugs are found, 0.7.3 will contain one other change: a speed-up to the initial (and further) categorisation by minimising the amount of work done. This should benefit everyone, but particularly people with lots of apps in "Other".

0.7.2 also contains a slightly cleaner way of changing icons when theme changes, by having the icons symlinked into /etc/hildon/theme. You will need to reboot, rather than reinstalling a different application.

Re: Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

i have to say.... 0.7.3 runs really smooth... the transitions are nicely flowing :)

and the double-shortcut-problem is just a tiny scratch on the shiny surface ^^

(be honest... how often do you add shortcuts?!... i did my desktop-layout once and only add new icons if i install a new program... and this isn't that often... and maybe your right... it's actually a cool feature that you can have the default shortcuts on two different desktops *g*)

great app! like it very much ;)
