How about getting bluetooth to work properly with car kits and headsets? Whilst we're at it a car cradle similar to the /n97 effort would be nice too, the 3rd party ones are really rubbish.

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

1. 3G Video Calling: If you dont/cant use it, why include a Front cam?
2. NEW Media Player! (Visualization would be great too): Current one is buggy and lacks lots of important features.
3. Media buttons: Even official WH-205 headset buttons dont work, it really sucks.
4. Say who's calling: It was a great feature on my Symbian phone, I miss it :/
5. Blacklisting: Even if you dont support it officially, help the community to create a blacklist app. It was a important app on my Symbian, I dont think theres any reason for Maemo to not support it.
6. Portrait Mode: Not necessary, would be cool. At least add it to Conversations and Media Player app.
7. MMS Support: I dont care about this much, but show a notification at least, if I receive a MMS message. (Received only one MMS last year, from my friend :P )

It works fine for Google video calls and other equivalent. 3G video calls, at least in UK and most of Europe, have seriously failed to achieve expectations of the operators becuase few people seem to want ot make them.

rojicha07 2010-01-28 19:06

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

1) Video calling for MSN contacts
2) Support for Nokia Messaging (I donīt have nokia messaging right now in my device)
3) Use the cameraīs flash during video recording (as a flashlight)
4) RMVB support in the media player
5) EQ

It would be awesome to include all these 5 features, itīs all I need, lol

1). Bring the baseline apps inline with the competitor's offerings: [b]email[b](!), calendar, contacts, RSS.
2). More plugins for the messaging app (yahoo messenger!)
3). License BB Connect for Maemo

-Portrait mode throughout
-Upgraded Ovi Maps
-Refresh/more functionality and beautification to the Calender and media player.
-Compatibility with Ovi or PC Suite
-Ability to customize or some sort of organization to the apps in the menu
-Email bugs
-Please improve the phone functionality

I know all of this is not likely, but it would be nice.

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

I want an original FM radio application, because the one available now even though its good, but it has many many annoying bugs

Also USSD

Also Portrait

Also (go back to menu after exiting programs)

Also Handwriting recognition

Also FREE NAVIGATION like other nokia brands

Also MORE GAMES

Also way better email client because the one in the N900 sucks and slow (but you can always use the Awesome Web browser to check your emails)

THE PROBLEM IS.....its ALL possible
But i feel like nokia doesnt want to do it

The n900 is Awesome....it just needs the support

Flash 10.1
MicroB upgraded to new gecko engine
portrait mode
a way to select which repository to upgrade an app from (so I can use things in devel without screwing up all my apps)
make proxies work for everything so I'm not restricted to web, email, and app upgrades when on my corporate network.

Other than that, I'm very happy. :)

RevdKathy hits the point. Calendar is missing crucial features:
  • adjustable start/end time for day view (show only working hours, for example), how needs entries at 3 in the morning..?
  • no search, makes calendar quite useless to locate certain events
  • smart birthday doesn not show age, why?. Doesn't sync with Outlook or other PIM?

Even more important is email search. It is practically impossible to locate an email if one cannot remember exact date and/or sender.

Email notification for new emails should be in account level also. It's frustrating to open each account to see if the new emails are there..

More configurable settings in applications. Good example is photo viewer, I'd like to select the default folder it shows and also N900 should remember it. I also don't want to see mp3 covers in photo view either..

Maps got better with PR 1.1, but are still far from being even close to Maps in other N-series phones:
- no user POI's (would help route settings etc.)
- search requires connection, why?
- UI still clumsy (who invented the "default" Paris/New York etc. search results in search view. Should show 4 last user searches instead)

Browser
- cannot reorder bookmarks
- text reflow setting (ctrl-Shift-I) does not survive beyond browser session

I also vote for portait SMS with virtual keyboard.

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

Java would be nice.

A way to connect standard USB devices such as pen drives, printers, keyboards, monitors, any USB device, through the micro USB port would increase the awesomeness that is the N900.

USB devices are two a penny and are much more secure than BT.

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

No question that Nokia has disappointed his lovely customers with there first update that only enabled few of thing for them and moreover the problem faced during and after updation(like brick, or dead device) were ridiculous, however for the next update First thing, it should be test enough so that no tablet device get dead or bricked while or after the update.
And next what we all can say that the features which were expected really from the device didn't came along with the device,
However if Maemo or Nokia again fails to introduce these must features in N900 through their next update for device, then there would be fall in the market of N900 without any questions and a big question on NOKIA CUSTOMER SATISFACTION, because I am also N900 user.
About the features that must be in Next Update:
1.Portrait Mode
2.Video Calling through secondry camera
3.Night mode for camera
4.Fully customizable menu
5.Hand Writing Recognization

6.Ultimate Volume controller(that can handle audio outputs from different apps and adjust accordingly the user, as in windows vista because if we are playing a song and a game simultaneously, then you have to choose one among them which is hurting)
7.All files sending through bluetooth, without the usage of any 3rd party software e.g Petrovich.
8.Infra Port enabling, as per listed here http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n900-2917.php
[B]9.Command Dial

Other common features:
1.Zooming the picture
in the same way as done in browser in N900
2.No exit from menu after selecting an app from there(example if I select sketch app from more, then more window will exit automatically)
3. Quick detection of all hardwares connecting to the device
4.More application memory availability, although this is the minor one.
5.Removal of all the bugs or most of the bugs as per listed on maemo.org for N900.

In this way the NOKIA can again produce a WONDER and ATOP CUSTOMER SATISFACTORY MOBILE BRAND ON EARTH for his lovely and precious CUSTOMERS.

new profiles, portrait mode.

Mazi 2010-02-05 15:25

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

1-portrait mode must be 100%

2-more profiles

3-battery indicator with %

4-full menu arrangement with ability of create new folder/ del folder/ move apps ..etc

5-adding shortcuts/widgets to multiple desktops

6-option for formating internal memory directly on N900 (not with PC software)

7-better media player with equalizer and ability to creating playlist easier

8-more option on camera images such as night mode...

9-more option on camera videos such as size of recording (WVGA/VGA/QVGA) likely on N-series

10-stable OS/ still has very bugs but overall seems ok...

the volume on this device is way too low. when i put volume at half bar it ia putting my volume at 10% and when i put 25% i dont hear a thing. this is especially with ringtones. this means the device could have higher volume level...

Then lock your device instead with a password. Password "protection" (well, I can still access the data by opening X Terminal, you are aware of this?) on a per-app basis is the last thing I want.

Sorry, but obscurity is something different than security.

Please do understand that adding a password protection does not make it ANY safer at all. You just *feel* safer, but your data *is not*.
