Add a mirror repo using the Applications GUI, then you should be able to install what you need.

Up and running for me and well! (I just got my N900 last friday, so I'm glad that I can finally download some applications.)

Repositories back up!

Repositories are finally back up! I had to refresh them twice before showing up, but now it's all back in business! Go download those apps folks!!!

extras seems to be working but still getting a 404 on extras-devel although I've never gotten into it so I may have it set up wrong (I r total n00b)

Re: Repositories down until Monday 18.1.2010

Sounds more like an error in the setup. What's your input on the repo setup page?

Re: Repositories down until Monday 18.1.2010

Catalogue Name : extras devel
Web Address : http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/
Distribution : freemantle
Components : free non-free

I think I copied this from elsewhere in the forums. This is exactly as it appears on my device.

Re: Repositories down until Monday 18.1.2010

name:Maemo Extras-devel
not freemantle its fremantle

Cernunnos 2010-01-18 12:02

Re: Repositories down until Monday 18.1.2010

try fremantle instead of freemantle :D Catalogue name is optional actually.

Repositories are live again!

The maemo repositories are up and running again. It seems like DNS propagation has ended. I just noticed that updating and downloading new packages now are faster than before.

Is it just me or the new repo servers are better now? ;)

Re: Repositories down until Monday 18.1.2010

can I ask for some advice related to repositories. I have added one from:

Catalog Name: Maemo Nintendo Emulators
Web Address: http://b-man.xceleo.org/repo/maemo-nintendo-emulators/
Distribution: (Leave Blank)
Components: main

For the SNES Emulator but when I go to download and install it says I need to have

libzeemote
libzeemote-conf

now am guessing these need to come from the Maemo Devel repository? Which I didn't really want to add as am not a expert user and don't wanna risk bricking my phone etc... so what other options are there for getting it downloaded?

This is why non-standard repositories are such a bad idea... ;) Emulators should be back in the standard repositories soon, assuming they become available sooner. :)

Re: Repositories down until Monday 18.1.2010

You'll just have to wait then flameboy until the app is properly tested and released to the normal extras repository. If you on the other hand do decide to take your chances, I suggest reading up on how to flash your device first.

Up in central US! Thank god! Application backups reinstalling now! 2 days without apps... I don't think I could've made it through a third!

Seriously though, is anyone discussing a mirror project? Perhaps we could pull the maemo repositories once a month, store them, and mirrors could be set up in case of emergency in the future? Or am I just silly?

Re: Repositories down until Monday 18.1.2010

Sdk packages have still problems:

http://repository.maemo.org/dists/fr...86/Packages.gz

Returns this:

Code:

error:          Can't locate object method "remote_ip" via package "Apache2::Connection" at /var/www/dhandler line 59.
context:
...
55:          # Marcell
56:          # Always allow access from Ixonos intranet
57:          # (this is needed to work around the 401 errors for the autobuilder)
58:          my $c = $r->connection;
59:          my $ip = $c->remote_ip;
60:          if ($ip =~ '10\.5\.1\.\d+') {
61:          $access{allowdownload} = 1;
62:          }
63:          # -------
...
code stack:          /var/www/dhandler:59

Resulting that it's a bit hard to install SDK:s...

Only the maemo.org repositories are down. Do you think Apple cares when non-Apple sites go down, or Google cares when non-Google Android sites go down?

That said, maemo.org is special. It is a rather grey line between Nokia and maemo.org.

Nearly all the useful third-party apps are on maemo.org. Nokia clearly relies on it for their (almost non-existent) marketing.

Nokia pays for maemo.org servers, and maemo.org repos are installed by default. But it's clearly not run by Nokia, nor run the way Nokia would run commercial servers. That comes with pros and cons. A pro being all the good community development and involvement resources that are hosted on maemo.org. A con being... what we saw this weekend.

I'm sorry, I didn't know Nokia's CEO was in this forum.
Doesn't matter whose fault it is, Nokia should be on this. Like you said, maemo has the most useful apps. I'd be scared if a new phone my company is responsible for lost access to apps for an entire weekend.

It's up! :)
