Seems to work really nicely. Shopping was easy with paypal. Installed like a breeze.

Just downloaded. Will try it out soon. Also, FYI, Joiku is running a special for the first 1000 N900 downloaders. I'm not trying to sell this, but just mentioning this so that people who are considering this are aware of a current discount.

Picked this up 2 days ago for !ess than $10USD and it works perfectly. Now I can actually use google maps on my ipod touch.
I cant seem to change the network name without having "joikuspot_" preceding it.

found out this is another unsecure package

Firstly, what did you expect on an open computing device? It being technically possible to copy software is completely normal. The system works because people pay up anyway.

Secondly, since you've edited your comment to remove the clarifying line about 'piracy' it now sounds like you're claiming that there's a security problem with Joikuspot, which is rather misleading (unless there is, of course).

Re: Joiku for n900 available :)

Hi

I bought the software but cannot install it. When i type apt-get install joikuspot I only get this error:

N900:~# apt-get install joikuspot
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Handler silently failed
N900:~#

Joikusofts support doesn¨t seem to know anything about this error.

I thought it might be caused by some software I have previously installed but I get the exact same error on my device even if I have reflashed it with NSU.

Any ideas as to what might cause this?

Does it still use 100% CPU all the time? I will buy it if it not.

When you bought the software you should have got a .install file - opening this with File Manager on the N900 will add the necessary repository, download and install it. Alternately you can add the repository manually (using the information in the .install file) and then use "apt-get install" to download and install it. The production repository is different from the one used for the beta version though.

I got the .install file in a browser but did not use it. Once the browser was closed I never was able to find the .install again. :-( Now I have paid for an application I can't install.

Does someone has an Idea how to install the tool? I also wrote an email to the support but maybe there is an easy and fast solution.

Thanks, jukey

You'll need to wait for support to get back to you I'm afraid - they're the only ones who can validate that you've paid. You need either the repository details or the .deb file to install it and, as there's nothing stopping anyone installing it otherwise, I'm not going to post either.

I think for me the adflashblock-css was the problem unstalled it this morning and finally was able to download it. Going to test it out later with my laptop and itouch.

Not at all. Sometimes it only uses 98%.

But to be serious - yes - the CPU does seem to run at 100%. Conky is showing Xorg at around 50-60%, Joiku at around 20-25% and other stuff taking up the rest.

No idea what Xorg is to be honest and it runs when Joiku is not present - but it runs at around 6% normally.

Xorg is the process which handles the display (at a pretty low level), so it sounds as though Joiku is constantly updating the display while it's running.

I left it running with no connected clients, and battery died after 2.5 hours. So is it updating screen even when screen is switched off.

There is no way you can use this application without charging phone whole time.

you just used it for 2,5 hours ;)

1-2 hours if a comp/phone is connected?

Re: Joiku for n900 available :)

I bought the new Version and can't complain, it works perfectly so far with several devices connected :o Only disadvantage is the battery usage yes, the phone gets also quite warm.

Edit (My post from the Joiku forums):

Quote:

Dear Joiku Community,

I installed a few hours ago Joiku and was really happy with it, everything worked as expected. The phone may gets a bit hot cause of the Speedmeters, so a option in the future to disable the GUI would be helpful.

Now to the negative part, since the I installed Joiku I have no chance anymore to use my WLAN connection. When I connect to a network I get the error "Network-Error, retry?". I tested several WLAN networks and get always the same error. I restarted the phone after the Joiku installation of course and Joiku itself is working just fine, but everything else WLAN related stopped working.

I have the latest N900 firmware installed, uninstalled Joiku already to check if it may gets fixed that way and removed all WLAN connections to re-add them without success.

It would be nice to get a reply as soon as possible because a N900 without WLAN is quite useless if you got no 3G flat.

With best regards,
Crogge
My phone also rebooted itself after a while is that normal with Joiku oO?

If that's true I'd consider demanding a refund - that's just plain buggy.

Seriously. They are charging money for this?

@Crogge: maybe an overheat or watchdog-triggered reboot (ie related to the fact it pegs your CPU at 100%).

They haven't replied me yet :/ Joiku is still working fine but connecting to any WLAN is impossible with the N900 itself.

@Flandry: No, I had at that point Joiku disabled and the phone was cold. This appeared the first time directly after I Installed Joiku!

Seems like after installing this program my tmobile internet connection is being broke out the blue had to reboot a few times to get it to reconnect. You would think they would have done more testing to iron out these kinda problems. I will email them in the morning but I sure hope they send out an update soon to fix this and the wlan problem people are having

I tried the .install file once more and this time it worked. They probably have changed something in the repository side because I did try it the first time too but it just failed during preparing to install stage. But the main thing is that everything is fine and dandy now.

I and other users got similar issues (Thread http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...634#post565634).

Joiku replied me and said that they are "very confused" about my issue and couldn't reproduce it yet.

I made the same mistake, I closed the download file and moved to the N900 to pick up the email assuming it would contain the JoikySpot Premium install file. It did not.

I tried writing to Joiku but they have not replied.

Where can I get my hands on the install file? I cant use the program having bought the license.

Guys .. be careful of this, it seems very easy to pay for but not get a copy of JoikuSpot.

Joiku ... are you reading this thread, could you please comment.

Re: Joiku for n900 available :)

Lol yeah that's what I planned on doing, buyin on pc and then installin from the n900. I assumed it would be the same as the S60 version ie. just input the license key into the demo and it would unlock. This version does not use a license key though, hopefully they will make this process more intuitive next time. I wonder if I had created an account if it would have let me download after leaving the site.

cyeung 2010-03-13 14:58

Re: Joiku for n900 available :)

About the download process, they could indeed make it better. I've seen a method where a one-time use download link hits your inbox after you check out. When you use up that download link, another one will hit your inbox. While you should save the most recent email, the vendor makes it very easy to get a new one if you lose it.

woodyear99 2010-03-13 14:59

Re: Joiku for n900 available :)

Yeah I assumed a download link would be in the email with the license key used for authenticating. Ah well I emailed them on Friday hoping they respond on Monday.

Re: Joiku for n900 available :)

I had a problem with normal wlan connections after setting the wlan0 interface to ad-hoc mode for the MobileHotspot project. Solved it by explicitly setting the wlan0 interface to managed mode on connection teardown.

Try installing wireless-tools and then running following commands as root:

Code:

ifconfig wlan0 down
iwconfig wlan0 mode managed
iwconfig wlan0 key open

As for reboots esp. with macs they may be related to a bug in the wifi driver in kernel, both the kernel-maemo and hotspot-kernel have patches to fix that bug.

Didn't helped, I still get the network error :/

I have some funny problems too.
Joiku free + N96 + Asus Laptop = perfect use.
Joiku Premium + N900 + Asus Laptop = client connects, i can see that incoming and outgoing data is getting more and more, but my Asus says that there is something wrong with my connection ...

Crogge 2010-03-15 22:52

Re: Joiku for n900 available :)

So since nobody here is able to find a solution, it means that we can't use Joiku and need to re-flash the phone the 100. time to get the WLAN working again?

If it continue like that then I make a video soon "How long survives a N900 in a washing machine?",

Hotshot 2010-03-16 01:56

Its a damn shame they released this program which is paid and getting emails about the wlan and network break connection problems and still havent release an update to fix it. If this keeps up I'm doing to request an refund and unstall the app cause i might reboot my phone every 5 to 7 days now I have to reboot my phone everyday because it break my tmobile internet connection.

Re: Joiku for n900 available :)

Folks I am having some problems with Joikuspot installation. Got the install file from support and successfully got the rep added to app manager. However I am not seeing any joikuspot available for download in app manager after I refresh. i even tried disabling all the other repos except joiku's own and yet nothing. Any idea what I can try? Is there something wrong with the joiku server? I emailed them but got no response.

Re: Joiku for n900 available :)

Well its still not working and in the last mail they simply copied me a (non working) solution from this thread written by Rambo.

I use now since a few days 3G only cause Joiku broke my WLAN connection of the phone somehow, its quite frustrating.
