Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
Thanks for fixing the bug.
Very nice application. One question what does the number 96 mean at the bottom under the settings tab of this widget? |

left from older versions. You may try to remove the config file (".connectnow-home-widget", in your home directory (/home/user)). First remove all connectnow widgets, remove the config file and than add and configure your connectnow widgets again. Thank you for your feedback regards nicolai |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
Gonna try this.
Thanx //edit: ok this helped. Thanx :) |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
I used your widget for quite some time, and it improved very well.
But since the new 1.2 update i can't seem to find connect now on any of the repositories.. |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
same for me. can't find connectnow after updating to PR1.2
any help? thanks! edit: managed to install it manually by going to http://maemo.org/packages/view/connectnow-home-widget/ and downloading the package manually. |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
Just to let you guys know that it's in Extras-Devel. Just installed it from there.

Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
Hello. I installed this widget in PR1.2. After the installation all widgets on my desktop disappeared and I can not connect via the connect-button in the system menu. After uninstalling the app, the connection-error is still there: if I click on the connect-button in the system menu, a window "choose connection" appears with the note "no connection available". How can I repair that?

Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
This is strange. Can you uninstall the widget, reboot and there
still no connections. And can you see any stored connections in settings (settings, internetconnection). nicolai |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
Hi uploaded a new version (0.9).
- fixed some bugs with icon loading - changed the iconchooser dialog - made it less sensitive for tap events, so it doesn't switch connections while you swipe the desktop. regards nicolai |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
Yes, that's right: I can see any stored connection and create new connections in the settings. I also can choose these connections in your widget. But the system dialog to change a connection seems to be broken, even after uninstalling your widget.
I reinstalled the icd2-daemon by invoking: apt-get --reinstall install icd2 icd2-settings-default icd2-network-wlan-config without any changes. |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
After long long time of testing I want to push this app in extras.
I promoted the app for extras testing, pleas test and vote for it. http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...me-widget/1.1/ thanks nicolai |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
i really like this widget, but after I found out that it could somehow make your battery drain faster cos of bug in hildon-desktop (which is fixed in the hildon-desktop version from MohammadAG) i deinstalled it.
+ Somehow i face connection problems when i also install autodisconnect. i couldn't find out more, don't know how to investigate properly. When autodisconnect did it's job, I could not reestablish a connection with ConnectNow... |

Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
Hi,
Great widget - but I need some help/clarification. When I first started using it in June, I had connection settings on "any connection", and connect now would choose to connect to a known wifi if available, otherwise it would automatically select my 3g connection, all of this with only one icon. Basically, it was toggling between connections using the same criteria as defined byinternet connection settings.I was very happy with that. Lately, it stopped doing so, I believe it was when during a trip in roaming I changed my connection settings to "Any wlan". ConnectNow now doesn't work as before, and I now need multiple widget for different access points. Is there any way to revert it back? I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and also deleting /home/user/.connectnow_home_widget - but it made no difference thanks! |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
@nicolai
sorry don't have a link. I read it in one of those hildon-desktop threads on here. but as this is a hildon-desktop bug which should be fixed in an upcomming update, you shouldn't bother. that bug is already fixed in those modified hildon-desktops floating around on here. |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
Hi Nicolai,
Thanks for this - great widget. Sorry if it's a stupid question, but what does the sliding adjuster at the bottom of the settings screen adjust, please? Secondly, for people that are as stupid as me, suggest adding instructions that to switch between networks, you need to have two seperate s/cuts on the desktop, one for each of the networks, as I didn't realise at first and thought it didn't work properly! Cheers, Dennis |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
Hi listsuk,
the slidebar at the bottom of the settings screen is for the widget size. nicolai |

Anyone have the same problem and know how to fix it? Thanks |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
Can we have different internet connection connected at the same time..
e.g. for sending mms I need MMS access point and for browsing I need INTERNET access point.. problem is this - if I need to send a MMS when browsing , I need to disconnect from INTERNET access point to connect to MMS to send mms.. or Internet access point get disconnect automatically when I try to connect to MMS.. I want to connect both of these at the same time. This is possible in all Symbian based mobile |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
No, AFAIK only one internet connection at time can be active :-(
It may be possible to activate more than one connection, but applications like browser and FMMS relay on libconic which handles the internet connection and does not work properperly with more than one connection. Nicolai |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
ok thanks for reply..is it possible to use multiple libconic using different connection??
e.g. if we can add condition something like this if ( INTERNET already connected ) { connect MMS via libconic2 }; Else { connect MMS via libconic1 }; Sorry, I am PHP editor ... Newbie in c language :) |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
I swear I'm not following your threads nicolai! :p
With ConnectNow, I find when I try to enable GPRS (3G) data connection whilst being on 2G, it doesn't connect to the 3G network before attempting to connect to the GPRS, and displays "Cellular network not available" in a yellow banner, and then "Internet connection failed. Try again? yes/no" in a pop up. Is there a flag that can be put in that states ConnectNow will only attempt a GPRS connection once the relevant network (2G or 3G, but preferably 3G) is connected? Sort of a wait signal? |

Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
is there any changelog fo the new update?
btw thanks for that program! :) |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
Yes, it is on the maemo.org/packages site.
The new update fixes a bug with empty/new connectnow widgets. if you add a new widget while you are offline, change some options but let the connection name empty, it may crash the first time you use it. This is fixed now. Nicolai |

There is also another application called Autodisconnect. I haven't use it but it seems it could fit on your use case. |
Re: ConnectNow Maemo5 widget to switch between internet connections
Nicolai, I have yet another feature request. Maybe a very specific use case from my side but I though it might be useful for someone else.
I usually keep my N900 always in GSM (using 2G/3G/Dual status menu widget) to avoid wasting battery, but when I want to connect to the Internet, I change it back to 3G, wait a few seconds to reconnect with the network and then press the ConnectNow widget. After browsing, I disconnect again with ConnectNow and return to 2G mode. It would be useful for me, then, to be able to use the same widget ConnectNow to make the whole process in a single click. For example the GPRS connection widget could have an option to "change first to 3G/Dual mode if not enabled" and then, on disconnection, an option to "return to 2G mode". What do you think? |
