Which means that just occasionally one makes a judgement call, does the best one can in a situation and then looks back with the benefit of hindsight and thinks "You know, if I had that day over I'd do it slightly differently". That's the price we pay for being human. Don't beat yourself up, Tex, for making the best decisions you could in a situation you had no actual power over and no fellow mod around to discuss with. And that goes for all our mods who have on occasion to make difficult decisions in a forum with no formal posting or moderation guidelines (note: meego.com is creating guidelines before the crowds arrive for exactly this reason).

There are no formal qualifications for the post of mod. What we need is people who care passionately about the community and want the very best for it. After that, the ability to stay calm under pressure, make judgement calls and defend why you made them, and consider that sometimes you might have done better are the qualities we need. In all these Tex excels.

Personally, I think losing Tex from the mod team would be a tragedy for this place. But I admit to being biased. I suggested on twitter last night that we consign yesterday to the crack in the universe and unwrite it as it never really happened: I stand by that suggestion.

first time I fully agree with you. Hoping too a black hole coming and deleting some post (including some of myself)
But perhaps that ones must be there to help us (ALL of us) to remember this week and learn of all this mess.
AND DONT BE HARD WITH MY BAD ENGLISH KATHY! :D

This is a Opensource Project not some corporate ****.
How many of you have heard of Leak build of "Linux Kernel","Gnome","KDE" or some other opensource product.

This community has failed in handling this project. Instead of trying to give daily build we are fighting over a leak build this is a very sad thing.

Texrat can be supported later first try keep maemo in good state.

Why don't the moderators write the messages too -- it would save the rest of us a lot of trouble.

can you write up a Brainstorm proposal for that?

QFT.

Kudos to Texrat. I hope he won't resign, Maemo community needs more helpful and nice people, not to lose them.

This community has not been chartered to "handle this project". We are voluntary support. Maybe joining the effort would be a good outlet for your frustration.

Thanks, and likewise.

I was an exhausted, exasperated idiot the other night. Now I'm just an idiot. What a difference a couple of adjectives make!

Drat, I hate systems which think they know better than me. Just lost my well-informed, thoughtful, supportive piece of hyperbole. Darn it all to heck.

Actually, it could be summarized in a few words... Tex, you are a very big part of this place and have been ever since I can remember (I'm old), your withdrawal would be counter-productive because the place needs thought, passion, advocacy, and intelligence, and you have these in spades.

The same to the Mods here, who rise above the 'I want it NOW' rubbish and ensure it's still moderately (sic) possible to find stuff of worth here. Your work has not gone unnoticed in this camp.

Well i finally finished reading the PR1.2 thread not an hour ago after i slept last night after getting to page 45 or something, and the way you handled the entire thing was fantastic!! As many people have said including yourself you had no jurisdiction in that forum so it should not in the least of been entirely up to you to control the storm that was that thread! And the manor in which you did try to quel the beast was great considering everything! I dont really post here often but i read the forums every night for info and the lolz and your input in this community as a mod would be sorely missed as demonstrated by this thread! And im fairly sure if you did infact resign we'd all have to hunt you down :) in a friendly way ofcourse :p

AND DONT BE HARD WITH MY BAD ENGLISH KATHY! :D

I seldom smack people for bad English, despite being very hard on myself about it. I especially don't smack people using a second language. Do you know how much Spanish I have? ;) It's nice to agree.

I do agree that I love this forums, its moderators and its users and all of them are the best one can expect.

I <3 Maemo talk

Sorry to be late responding.

Again I really, really appreciate your original intent and I have to say it was humbling to see the response.

I just a not comfortable with that focus being on me-- especially when other mods work harder than I do (sjgadsby is a machine. No really. I've seen the schematics). The only reason you guys see me is due to a character flaw: I talk way, way too much.

So I accept the appreciation for the little I do but would rather it be spread out to the others who do more. Please don't overlook them just because they choose not to be as noisy as I am.

Except that without the fallout with you - the thread would never have existed.

Don't get me wrong: A thread praising the moderators for their hard work is warranted and needed to be made. OTOH: The original intent of this thread was someone trying to rally support for getting you not to resign.

However, since it appears you have decided as such; this threads original purpose has been fulfilled - and continuing to kiss *** praise all our wonderful overlords/dictators leadership has done, does, continues to do, and will always do is a good way forward for this thread. :D
