pmudgal and gregot7

Sorry, I am on vacation and haven't checked mails lately.

Can you open the file /home/user/.rtcom-accounts/accounts.cfg and check if there is a section for VICaR?

If yes could you post that section here?

pmudgal 2010-09-03 05:24

Re: [Announce] VICaR: Value International Call Router (Calling Card Helper)

no section for VICaR, I am not sure of how to show the contents in the post but I can confirm no VICaR entry in that file.

Looks like Vicar installation is not complete. Can you try installing from command line?

Code:

apt-get update
apt-get install vicar

@scifi.guy, apologies the first time around looks like I didn't even have VICaR installed, anyways I am sending screen shots of output of all your requests over the last couple of days with VICaR installed.

Re: [Announce] VICaR: Value International Call Router (Calling Card Helper)

@pmudgal - While fixing another bug, I realized that post install script still had bugs.

I pushed another revision to extras-devel for this fix. Please install that and let me know how it goes.

Re: [Announce] VICaR: Value International Call Router (Calling Card Helper)

VICaR v0.4-5 released to extras-devel. Here is the change log.

* Fixed a configuration error that prevents SMS from loading in Conversations.
* Changed postinst script to fix post installation config errors.

Re: [Announce] VICaR: Value International Call Router (Calling Card Helper)

@scifi.guy, there is still issues:

I installed the latest version, I got a message that said "unable to install........." at the end of the installation process but VICaR now shows up in Call Type and in Contact Details.

However when I place a call via VICaR nothing happens, I do get the "This contact's application does not support calls" error.

I am holding off on trying anything for now, look forward to your steer....

VICaR v0.5-0 released to extras-devel. Here is the change log.

* Added multi-profile support.
* Added local number support.

Starting with this release, VICaR can be used to call different CCs/GV/Skype-Out numbers based on the dialed number.

If a number matches more than one profile (Eg: +18001231234 matches both "+1" and "+1800" profiles) the profile on top in config screen will be used.

Call Directly on Default - If enabled, call will be placed directly via your mobile operator when no matching profile is found for a number.

Ha, perfect timing! I've started using a new calling card number yesterday and quietly wished for profile support in Vicar. Turns out - we've been reading our minds. ;)

Using latest 0.5 built.
Got same error as pdmudgal although able to access sms.
when i try to add profile and enable routing...get message unable to enable call routing

Re: [Announce] VICaR: Value International Call Router (Calling Card Helper)

@scifi.guy, can confirm that, i installed 0.5; had the same "unable to install ..." errors, but it worked fine after i set up a profile, but after a reboot same "this contact's appli ..." error and no calls placed.

Does it help if 0.5 like the recent previous versions still shows up as "Broken but updateable" in App Mgr?

Just upgraded to 0.5 and set the new calling card profile but when I try to place a call through Vicar from contact card, I get "Availability must be online to perform this action" notification instead. :(

Btw, feature request: profile names.

Would it be possible to include ViCard into the settings menu instead of a standalone app?

Device reboot solved this problem, but then another arised: profile rules don't seem to work. I've got profile set for numbers starting with "+48", yet when I try to call such number via Vicar from contact card, it says "No routing profile defined for this number". Not good. :(

@pmudgal - Thanks for the screenshots.

After reboot issue should be fixed in 0.5-1. I am testing that version and it should be available later today/tonight.

No clue about the unable to install error. Next time can you save the log from Hildon Application Manager/Faster App. Manager and send it to me?

@drangina -

Can you close the vicar config screen and run this command as user (not as root).
Code:

run-standalone.sh /opt/vicar/vicar-config
Now try to enable routing and reproduce the issue.

Send me the output (Contains your IM usernames, mask them as needed).

Does the number in contacts start with +48 or 48 or something else?

Ok, had to clear that up :)

This is hard to reproduce. But I found some interesting fact. While the vicar daemon was running in the background, I was able to drop the profiles DB and the daemon was still loading the data from cache.

Your issue could be related to this, Rebooting :) again should solve it. In any case, I am changing the daemon logic to re-open DB for each call. Should not be a big performance issue.

It is in my list of enhancements. Last I checked, it can't be done with Qt. Need to revisit that feature once this release is stabilized.

VICaR v0.5-1 released to extras-devel. Here is the change log.

* Fixed the bug - Vicar daemon fails to load after reboot (thanks to pmudgal)
* Changes to DB open/close logic to avoid loading data from cache.

0.5-1 installed the problems after reboot are sorted out in my testing.

For the other issue, which persists, actually all the old error messages still persist:

1) 0.5-0 installed, extras devel disabled but the update still shows up in App Mgr, shows up as "Broken but updateable"
2) Repeated reinstalls over and over yield same message "unable to update.........."
3) all other repositories disabled, extras devel enabled, update 0.5-1 shows, still shows as "Broken but updateable"
4) install results in an update from 0.5-0 to 0.5-1 but the error still comes post installation "unable to update......" and will continue to show in updates
5) installed 0.5-1, available 0.5-1 but still shows up in app manager with extras devel enabled.....

This behaviour has been observed for a while

Re: [Announce] VICaR: Value International Call Router (Calling Card Helper)

Did a quick test with two different profiles and found an issue (well, not exactly an issue, but something to improve). Say I have two profiles:

Profile 1 for numbers starting with +48
Profile 2 for numbers starting with +486

The problem is that Profile 1 is picked for *all* numbers starting with +48, including those with +486. I think Vicar needs to do a bit more clever matching while choosing profiles.

Additionally, nice-to-haves include:
- ability to define more than one prefix, comma separated (ie. "+48,+49")
- wildcards support (ie. "+48*01")
- ability to define an "umbrella" profile which would be used to route all international calls not handled by other profiles

drangina 2010-09-07 13:51

Re: [Announce] VICaR: Value International Call Router (Calling Card Helper)

after the update 0.5-1 and a reboot its working with charm.
Except from the error Unable to update.

Thanks

This one is tricky, I have figured out the logic for everything else except this one. Just curious, with wild card support and a default/umbrella profile would you still use comma-separated country codes?

Well, to be honest - I would personally probably stick with just one, max two profiles for myself. I was thinking of these options as a way to extend Vicar functionality even further and make it more flexible, not necessarily that I specifically need these features right here and now. :)

Re: [Announce] VICaR: Value International Call Router (Calling Card Helper)

I am unable to install vicar.
Code:

apt-get install vicar
gives me
Code:

...
Opening database at  "/home/user/vicar.db.sqlite"
VICaR profiles database opened.
Creating VICaR profiles table..
Failed to open connection to "session" message bus: (null)
dpkg: error processing vicar (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 vicar
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Code:

apt-get purge vicar
prior to install does not help.
After install I see the binaries, so I tried
Code:

run-standalone.sh /opt/vicar/vicar-config
but I the config utility was unable to save any profile.

Then I tried without the run-standalone bit and I was able to save a profile.
After that apt-get install vicar seems to have moved forward a bit, but I am still unsure if vicar is installed correctly because apt-get still threw errors at me.

Netweaver 2010-09-15 11:49

Re: [Announce] VICaR: Value International Call Router (Calling Card Helper)

I tried to set up vicar today to use the Dial-a-code service (dialacode.com) , which is basically a paperless pre-paid calling card alike scheme linked to special operator assigned numbers. Setting up a profile was simple, only one rule, numbers starts with "+324", calling card number "290333", format "00<...". Prefix I left empty as recommended.

When using vicar to call the Belgium mobile number, I had a flash of a message on-screen saying "this contact's application does not support this call" but the phone still calls the 290333 number and I hear the dial-a-code 'welcome' message. So it seems the DTMF tones were not send. I also tried entering a 'p' in the prefix field but no joy. Same behaviour.

Anyone seen this before ?

How about trying "pp" as prefix.

Hi there,

I like the application and use it too, great app, so thanks for the effort.

I want to ask for a clarification, With my previous phone (nokia 5800 a Symbian based phone) my network operator (3 Australia) would allow me free skype to skype calls without counting my data pack usage, this is something I am missing as I used just call friends and families for free and on the go. Basically, everytime I selected a skype contact to talk to it would dial out a local mobile number and then it would connect me to skype user (on their PC) on the other side, can use this app for same functionality?

Thanks
