Damn I miss Jaiku. Worst thing Google ever did was to buy and then kill Jaiku. Trying to follow these character limited and unthreaded Twitter conversations is a nightmare.

lol, will meego get better OVI service treatment than n900?

Yes, Meego is our new high end service platform so of course it will.

What a nob.

This guy has done a Monica Lewinsky. Either that or Niklas is tweeting to himself again.

My questions about N900 seem to be ignored too. D@mn I'm seriously getting angry here, and I don't mean their waste_of_effort_OVI_comic

P.S. I hate twitter, I'm marking this cretinous nokia sales monkey as a spammer and getting outta there...

People seem to have forgotten that he's the head of SALES AND MARKETING.

He doesn't know crap and is sticking to a narrow range of categories. You won't hear anything interesting or useful from him.

I don't give a crap. He offered himself for questions, he should be capable of answering any type of question since he is head of sales and marketing. Even if he replied to my tweets something like "We are looking into it." or anything, but he keeps avoiding every Maemo and N900 question like he felt Nokia was guilty or something. I've asked if they will continue to support the N900 with future updates 4x. He didn't reply, not even "I cannot know that, ask the MeeGo/Maemo team". If that's proper marketing then I'm a yellow elephant. Screw Nokia and this dude!

He's not a shop seller, hes a corporate marketer. That neccesarily needs research into recent history at least. And the n900 is not that old. In fact isn't the n900 still selling now?

My own personal hope (if dj_steve and everyone gets it to that point) is to use Maemo for computer operations and Android for smartphone operations.

The crucial difference between Android and Maemo is in treatment of real-time applications. Android is a single-engine based system and it allows an easy manipulation of priorities and system resource (memory) accounting. So, in case of phone call it is easy for them to keep or free resources and provide a fast response. But it has a backside too - restrictions on real multi-tasking (not simulated one), restriction on daemons and client-daemon communication etc.

Maemo is a generic platform and it allows it all. But it is a very difficult task to keep/allocate resources for real-time apps like phone or even hildon window manager. Nokia tried to do it via cgroups kernel control but that stuff is not finished. They also hadn't enough memory in N900 and decided not to lock that RT applications in memory - and we see now sometime missed calls after video playback or music playing and other delays. However, it is possible with enough memory and CPU resources. Just keep in mind that generic platform requires more hardware resources than specialized one like Android (or iOS).

It is all about your word "suited". Another issue is a software choice but it has nothing special with platform... only Nokia treatment of open-source phones and customer support.

I hope you're kidding.

It's rather disingenuous and self-defeating to complain about Nokia's lack of engagement, then torpedo an effort to correct that.

You're confusing separate issues. Anyway, It will actually be good for Nokia to invite more bloggers/journalists to events. No "messiah" complex involved at all.

Re: Nokia exec Niklas Savander welcomes your questions on Twitter

I think it is now finally time for us N900 owners to realise that Nokia have little or no future plans for our device and set about getting every capable member possible on this community together and make a serious effort to somehow derive the full set of drivers for the purpose of writing our own Meego version or whatever.

What choices do we have left now because for sure when the succesor to the N900 arrives it will have a completely different component driver list and will really leave this device forgotton.

Re: Nokia exec Niklas Savander welcomes your questions on Twitter

Is this thing done? I don't have twitter but wish to ask so many questions. Like how come they didn't put a big marketing effort behind the N900 as they did the N97? Or how are N900 sales, how many have been sold to date and has it been a success? What is the Meego marketing strategy, will we now see a bigger effort put behind it? What is the North American strategy, will they refocus on this as they have lost the image in North America. Are we going to see application level integration of the Ovi store? etc...

Folks if you can ask it would be good to know.

I'd rather it was a genuine attempt rather than a show of self aggrandizement and showboating. But I didn't have high hopes anyway. Corporations are like this.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but just note that's what it is-- and you're trolling the thread.

I think IF Nokia do move on from this device then i am sure if this community get's together to put some pressure on Nokia to give us the full set of component drivers it can be achieved.

Let's be serious here and start to at least make an effort for OUR device.... anyone actually disagree with this????.

There are hundreds of threads already created here for venting. You know that first hand. It's trolling to drag it in HERE.

You're not being censored. You've been asked not to troll. Huge, huge difference. Rational discourse of any kind (other than what Reggie has prohibited by policy) is welcome. That includes opinions... just realize informed, sober opinions are generally received much better than sarcastic rants.

I expect people to realize that Niklas ignoring N900 questions on twitter doesn't translate into justification of forum abuse here.

I'm irritated with Nokia, I threw out some tough questions, and none have been addressed-- but I'm not going to pollute this place as a consequence.

I'm still going through his Twitter history; however I don't see any mention or sight of any Maemo talk.

Jack6428 2010-08-05 19:51

Re: Nokia exec Niklas Savander welcomes your questions on Twitter

It's sad that Niklas proved today to be totally incapable and ignorant, as everyone else at Nokia. If it were up to me, he would get fired after today. He didn't answer a single question about Maemo, nor about the N900 - eventhough he recieved dozens of them. Ignoring them can mean only two things - a) Both Niklas and Nokia feel guilty for the way how they treated the N900 and don't want to admit it's not important to them anymore or b) He has no idea what Maemo or N900 is. Either way something is wrong and the people at Nokia responsible for such immature and idiotic behaviour should be immediately fired, including Mr. Niklas who answered only half of the questions he recieved. A person in his position should be capable of answering any question, including stupid ones like "why do you have brown desks at Nokia?", without much struggle. I would assume that with a 140 characters limit per response it should have been fairly easy. Next time I buy a Nokia product, I will ignore the disability of their marketing departement and save myself from some stress. Oh, and did I mention Nokia is almost full of idiots?

I think the same thing was tried with the n800, n810. No traction never occured, although I think TI "released" the 3D drivers a few months back. Not sure what happened with that though.

Not surprising consider Nokia considers Maemo to be on lifeline support (just bugfixes) before they switch all resources completly to Meego.
