Re: [Announce] Gnumeric - a spreadsheet application for N900

Arcean, many thanks for your time. I have been doing more testings and Gnumeric does update the file date when the spreadsheet is modified. But the native file manager of Maemo 5 does not upgrade the file date until it is opened again. This was what induced me to think that it was the cause of my synchronization problem. The latter persists. When I run DropN900 to synchronize with DropBox, sometimes spreadsheets edited with Gnumeric are not synchronized, as if the file had not changed. This does not happen with text files, for example. But right now I do not know if the problem is in Gnumeric, in DropN900, or whatever. I will try to get more details, but for the moment I cannot trust the synchronizations. Thanks again for your quick response.

Just to answer your question. I have checked with spreadsheets in Gnumeric format and I have the same problem of synchronization.

I don't know how DropN900 works, but is the problem that the files are open in Gnumeric when you're trying to sync? Maybe DropN900 cannot sync files that are open in another app at the time.

I tried closing Gnumeric and I had the same problem. Maybe DropN900 requires a minimum amount of change. Usually I make small changes to the worksheets in the N900. For example, I have a worksheet with a list of scientific journals and I fill in the issues I have browsed. That means I add a few digits at a time. I have tried with bigger changes and this triggered the synchronization. I am afraid now that it is a problem of the minimum threshold that DropN900 requires to consider that the file has changed. But this would be a matter of the DropN900 forum. If so I thank again the developper and the people in this forum for the quick response and the inconveniences.

I've just uploaded Gnumeric 1.10.16-1. Major changes: ODF and XLSX export improvements + memory leaks fixes.

Thanks for your efforts! I was testing out gnumeric and happen to notice when going from Tools > Solver that some programs are missing. (glpsol and stuff for LP Solve.) Has that always been the case? Do I need to download them seperately. I couldn't find them in any of the usual repositories. Regardless, a nice job!

Ah, it's normal. Solver is not a part of Gnumeric since 1.10.0, if I remember correctly.

There's a new version in the Exras-devel repo (1.10.17) :).

This Gnumeric is actually really good. Almost identical to the full size Linux version.

Hmm, you can move them while holding pressed SHIFT key.

Could you just put 1% of effort and explain what you would like to achieve and most importantly without showing contempt to the work of others provided for free!!

Hi.
I'm using Gnumeric often, but I have a noooooob :o question:
As it's used "by default" on my N900, Pr 1.3, files are registered as ".gnumeric".
So I can't export them or open them with sheet to go, or Excel.
Any help?
I don't speak very well english...
Thanks!

Re: [Announce] Gnumeric - a spreadsheet application for N900

You can use File, Save As to save as different file types, but you'll need to remember to do that the first time you create a file (subsequent saves of the same file will keep the same file type). There doesn't seem to be a way to set the default file type for newly created files to be anything other than .gnumeric, but that also seems to be the case with the desktop version. See http://www.vladd44.com/ubuntu-linux/...save_excel.php and https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=345067 for some more info.

Save as should do the job.

Thanks guys!
It was really simple...:o
It seems not to be possible to set default files type...

I know is lot of work, I do not want to show disrespect.
I want only better gnumeric for me. Selfish?
Now I learn Python because of gnumeric do not have something dynamic.
I do not want to blame anybody.
I only want the n900 to have more respect then other phones

What I wanted is a dynamic update. Something like:
when you push the button (created with object toolbar) the signal will update a cell variable with other cell variable. Maybe once or more times.
Or dynamic update of a cell from file or web.
Something macro.

I think is in plan to do with that object toolbar objects.

If it was created in python or PyQt it was [easy]easier for me to add all kind of plugins.
If someone can show me a way to interact with gnumeric with python I would be happy....or no such?....or maybe someone will create a python window for gnumeric.

Re: [Announce] Gnumeric - a spreadsheet application for N900

as of .17 of gnumeric the author claims it supports conditional formatting, well i made an excel file with this with MS Office 2010 on the desktop then transfer file to n900 i open with dataviz or gnumeric and they do not appear? I know dataviz does not support it, but i have the version ending in .17 for gnumeric and it's suppose to support this so how do i make it work? thanks in advance.

anyone know how to make conditional formatting show in gnumeric?

Re: [Announce] Gnumeric - a spreadsheet application for N900

I have been trying to get conditional formatting to work. It works fine on my gentoo desktop. I've followed the same steps using the N900 version but cannot get the "<- Add" button to activate itself.

Steps:

  • Highlight a bunch of cells
  • From menu select Conditional Formatting
  • Edit condition: Cell value is >= x
  • Edit x: Sheet1!F1
  • Applicable Style Components left on default (only "Background")
  • Went into "Edit Style" and changed background colour
  • Style Overlay changes to (defined) to confirm style is set
  • The "<- Add" button is still greyed out.
