as said in first post those lines in prefefrences file block apt-get from installing hildon-desktop from official repository. I suggested that you rename that file something else and do apt-get update and try to install hildon-desktop again and see if it still gives error message.

Backup original transitions.ini in /usr/share/hildon-desktop/ and overwrite it with transitions.ini in attached zip file.

Dear NOC, please tell me step by step procedure of copying this transitions.ini file. i have installed rootsh but what to do next? please tell me all commands step by step.

apt-get --reinstall install hildon-desktop is not working for me. It says:

BusyBox v1.10.2 (Debian 3:1.10.2.legal-1osso30+0m5) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

Nokia-N900:~# apt-get --reinstall install hildon-desktop

This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or

Any ideas?

Re: [Announce] Faster kinetic scrolling in app menu (PR1.2)

Mate, widgets are part of hildon-home, they don't have anything to do with hildon-desktop, blaming a problem on something when it's coincidence isn't the best thing to do.

Now I'm not sure where you messed up your device to the point where it can't download binaries from the SSU repo, but I suggest making a new thread where you DON'T blame hildon-desktop and blame some other widget for causing it to hang.

As for others, this thread has nothing to do with transitions, please follow the respective threads for transitions.ini questions, thank you :)

Re: [Announce] Faster kinetic scrolling in app menu (PR1.2)

I took a closer look at the hildon-desktop source code (actually, at hd-launcher-tile.c) and I think it should be reasonably easy to rotate icons 90o when the device is turned into portrait orientation. In order to do this, you will need to listen to device orientation messages (via DBus, I guess) and call clutter_actor_set_z_rotation_from_gravity() on each icon tile. Same can be done with the widget icons used to start applications.

Unfortunately, I am away from home and cannot try it by myself. MohammadAG, as you are already tinkering with hildon-desktop, would you try following this path, or is it too much bother?

Re: [Announce] Faster kinetic scrolling in app menu (PR1.2)

Installed modified hildon-desktop to get rid of screen glitches on incoming call. So far everything is working as expected. I am happy with being able to use phone app in portrait mode. No issues here for me.

Is it also possible to fix bug 10412?
I still sometimes have that bug even with this hildon-desktop version and it is annoying to see the battery drain after sleep for example :(

The package in this thread is a recompilation of the Hildon-Desktop found in the official gitorious repository, and it intends to bring users the fixes that were done since PR 1.2, but haven't been released yet.

As I read through the comments of that bug report, it is still vague and not clearly reproducible. It is even possible that is caused by some third-party app.

Re: [Announce] Faster kinetic scrolling in app menu (PR1.2)

I had to reboot as well to get the full effect out of this.

Slowish kinetic scrolling and the Call UI bug all persisted until a reboot.

I did this by btrowsing to this thread on my N900, downloaded the .deb and did the rest through the terminal.

One strange think pop up after update. Sync between Outlook and N900 calendar via Ovi Suite stopped working. Suite flags error code 8004fd22.

According to logs the previous syncs worked before.

Could it be this, or has something else happened?

Hello
I have this problem, while on the internet or just msn, noted as one tries to stop the internet service because it is ringing but this is not displayed, then I introduced the missed call message, and tested and so, give tone to the call and the call simply do not enter.
I and restarted, as shown and believe me is not the solution and as I have read is not good to do all the time, I flashed completely left as the factory and still gives me that problem.

Sorry for my English .

ohm. Iīm starting to suspect that you have no idea what that command did in xterm. (if so then why did you install this in first place?)

rename corresponding file to something else and try to apt-get update & install hildon-desktop. report here.

Ahhh. Letīs cut the crap. Do you know how to do basic operations (move, copy, delete, rename, make dir..etc) in xtrem?

The following packages have been kept back:
hildon-desktop libsdl-mixer1.2
The following packages will be upgraded:
libqtm-systeminfo python python-all python-cairo
python-conic python-gobject python-minimal python-osso
simple-fmtx-widget
9 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 2 not upgraded.
Need to get 571kB of archives.
After this operation, 32,8kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?

should I press yes? is good to upgrade those packages?

Re: [Announce] Faster kinetic scrolling in app menu (PR1.2)

Hi - sorry I realise this has probably been asked and answered before but there are a lot of pages in this thread so please excuse me if you have heard this all before.

Firstly - I've installed the faster scrolling .deb and it's great, so thanks!

Secondly - is there (or will there be) a community updates repository which we will be able to use on the N900 to update to the latest community bugfixes or features? I don't know if there are regular builds made or if people just make code changes and others compile it of their own accord. I don't see Nokia bringing out a PR 1.3 but a way to update to all of the community bugfixes easily would be a godsend.

EDIT: I like how one of the tags for this thread is "great stuff"

What slender means is that you just rename file /etc/apt/preferences to something else and try again updating.

Thanks - I did see that but I was wondering if there was a path that I could add to use with apt-get or the app manager on the phone (as in do they regularly get packaged to .debs anywhere?) Forgive my noobishness, I've never had a large active part in any open source community bar being a user.

There will be according to MohammedAG (kudos to him)... ;)

SSU means Seamless Software Update. Add Community in front of that and You've got the answer to Your question.

In other words, it will be another repository just like Extras etc... :)

MohammadAG thanks for this :)
Keep up the good work bro!
Maybe you should create a repo with the pre-pr1.2.1/1.3 packages so we can get the fixes early.
I also saw you created a updated package for the pulseaudio stack that fixes stuttering, I'm going to test that tomorrow.

Same here. I am able to sync my Outlook 2007 calendar until this upgrade yesterday. Now I'm also getting the error warning when it tries to sync the calendar. Contacts appears to sync ok

Re: [Announce] Faster kinetic scrolling in app menu (PR1.2)

Urgent help required. I installed this transferring the file to MYDOcs and entering code:

root
dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/hildon-desktop_kinetic_2.2.138-1+0m5_armel.deb
killall hildon-desktop

However, now I can only use four desktops (even though in manage views there are 6 desktops selected). Also I cannot scroll between desktops using keyboard arrow keys (which I prefer a million times to swiping with my finger).

I don't know if the problem is this conflicts with modifiled hildon home. Is there a fix? If not how do I revert back to before I put this on? Will deleting the file from MyDocs be enough?

EDIT: Okay found this: Anyways, to undo, apt-get --reinstall install hildon-desktop

Did that and get message "Package hildon-desktop is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source"

If there is a major conflict between this and modified hildon (which looks like is the case) then I think there should be a warning in the first post.

EDIT 2: Okay I managed to restore. I did:

apt-get --reinstall install modified-hildon-desktop

Now I am back to having 9 desktops and being able to scroll between desktops using the keyboard. Yaaay.

Re: [Announce] Faster kinetic scrolling in app menu (PR1.2)

i'm confused!
will this cause problems when i have modified transitions.ini installed?

also: i'm always getting "no such file or directory" when i try to install this. "dpkg: error processing .....deb (--install): cannot access archive: no such file or directory"
why???
i tried with both "root" and "sudo gainroot" (seem to be different), but both methods give me the same error message.
the file is located at the correct folder and i didnt mistype anything.

Re: [Announce] Faster kinetic scrolling in app menu (PR1.2)

Post exact steps/commands you are using. When you change to root you change directory as well. You can always check where are you by typing pwd. So if your .deb file is located in /home/user then when you change to root you have to type the complete path, because now your current directory will be /root .

PS. Always use ctrl+i to get your shell autocomplete - this will save you a lot of typing.

thanks for the ctrl-i hint!

but i see the problem now: i ssh'd into home/user/mydocs and put the deb-file in there

but when i enter home/user/mydocs via terminal and check with ls, it shows me a whole lot of other folder that i didnt see when i copied the files through my computer. looks like this is a completely different mydocs?!

what i did:
copy the .deb-file to /home/user/MyDocs
start terminal
sudo gainroot, after this i was at /home/user
cd MyDocs/, after this i was at /home/user/MyDocs/
dpkg -i longassfilename.deb (<- ctrl+i didnt work on that either)
bla bla no such file or directory

zlatko 2010-08-22 12:15

Re: [Announce] Faster kinetic scrolling in app menu (PR1.2)

@msa
If ctrl+i does not autocomplete it, it is just not there. You can check by running "ls|grep deb" and it will find all files having deb in their name.
