Actually I decided to buy at Amazon instead (more trust worthy website in my opinion) http://www.amazon.com/Archos-43-Inte...182469&sr=8-13
Pricing is the same 250 dollars for 16gb and 200 dollars for 8gb. I will give my thoughts on this device when it comes at archosfans.com, android forums, and maemo.org. I am very excited about this device because it matches most of the specs of the Motorola Droid X, HTC Evo 4g, Milestone XT720, HTC Desire HD at a fraction of the cost. I also plan to use this as my personal media player and camcorder.

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

I'm glad Archos still makes devices like these, because 600 dollars for a smartphone is too expensive because the devices themselves are only 200 dollars worth of components. So until I can super high end Android experience on an Android phone for 300 dollars with hd video, amoled, and fancy stuff like that it is Archos for me. Also Nokia please make a true Nokia n810 successor, one that isn't a phone.

Not going to happen i fear, as the popular focus is on the phones.

Well for a while PDAs, Internet Tablets, and MIDs were around 400-600 dollars also but they eventually came down to the price of 200-300 dollars.

Of course it will happen hardware is always getting cheaper. Since were on the on the topic of Archos, when the PMA400 was released it was 800 dollars which is very outrageous, but 6 months later Nokia released the 770 with significantly better specs at 400 dollars.

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

Nokia better a n820 or n910 or something that isn't a phone because this thing killed the n810 for me.

This device feels more like an Archos 605 wifi successor or Archos 43 vision successor rather than and Archos 5 successor.

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

Archos did however put out the Archos 50 vision to cater to there old users http://armdevices.net/2010/10/18/arc...vga-1080p-pmp/

All five of the "customers that bought this item also bought" items are barbie dolls. No flash memory, headsets, cases, or screen protectors?

railroadmaster 2010-10-19 04:59

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

I was originally going to get a T-Mobile G2, Samsung Vibrant, MyTouch 3g slide, or something like that, but I would have to pay 30 dollars a month for a data plan or pay 600 dollars to get it without a contract. So I'm glad I can get something like this without paying through the nose.

Barbie dolls, that both awesome, and weird at the same time.

The 770 and the N8x0 was experiments, but the leadership have seen the interest and the numbers since the N900 went phone (it was also the biggest cry on here that nokia should have added a phone to the N810) and so is unlikely to make a non-phone device in the future.

You obviously don't understand what I was trying to say. I'm saying right now smartphones are too expensive for many. An Android super phone as like a HTC Evo 4g/Desire HD/Droid Incredible/T-Mobile G2 and Motorola Droid 2/ Droid X/ Milestone XT720 are all around the price of 600 dollars without a contract, but pretty soon Android super phones will drop in price because of the launch of the Motorola Droid Terminator, the same way the Nokia 770 and SmartQ devices made MIDs drop in price. Get my point. I'm not saying we need more devices that aren't phones I'm saying we need cheaper phones.

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

I wouldn't be surprised if Archos is the first to make a MeeGo mid because they were the first to make a Android tablet and they surprised many people with there decision to use Android on the Archos 5 and Archos 7. So I'm sure they will surprise many with a MeeGo device. That is just my speculation so until something like that happens we can try to get MeeGo running on the Archos 43, would anyone be willing to do work.

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

Well this tablet is now on pre-order at Amazon.com, but there's a twist that the post at Pocketables.net didn't pick up. With all eyes on Samsung because of the super-high price tag for the Galaxy Tab, it seems to go unnoticed that this tablet is now listed at the "discount" price of $46 more than previously announced/ projected. It was supposed to go for $199, but is listed on Amazon for $245.

Help me out here ... did I miss something? Maybe $199 was for a unit with less storage?

Well the price is the one that is mentioned. 200 dollars is the starting price for 8gb and 250 dollars is the price for 16gb.

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

Well here are my thoughts on the whole MeeGo thing.
In 2000 the market was flooded with mp3 players so how does Archos differentiate itself well Archos offers 5gb capacities which was un heard of back then.
2002 - 2004 hard drive mp3 players become fairly common so what do they do they offer the ability t.
2002 - 2004 hard drive mp3 players become fairly common so what do they do they offer the ability to play video.
2005 Now with pmps and pdas fairly common they create the first device that combined both a pda and pmp
2009 MIDS very common by then Archos releases the Archos 5 Internet Tablet the first Android Tablet/MID/PMP(whatever you like to call it) as a way to differentiate itself from the slew of MID manufacturers.
2011 I can just imagine this as a way to differentiate itself from the slew Android manufacturers they release MeeGo based versions of the Archos 43, Archos 32, Archos 28 Archos 48, Archos 70, and Archos 101 and show the world that there devices aren't just really good Android devices.

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

I could see myself using this PSX Emulation PSX4Droid Lite http://www.appbrain.com/app/psx4droi...zodttd.psxlite and it seems to run quite smoothly on the Motorola Droid X which has very similar hardware to the Archos 43.
It seems to run just fine here is good demonstration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3r0sKROSsE
the app is a work in progress, but I think performance should improve with Android 2.2.

$199 is for the 8G model which has now discontinued, even before shipment. 16 G model continues.

I canceled my order on the Archos 43. Why?, because the thing keeps disappearing and reappearing and it's been weeks and it hasn't arrived at my door. So I'm going to buy a UMPC probably a Viliv. I might get one of these to Ocosmos Ocs1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aAlIUhCfM0

Anyone got one of these yet? I'm looking for a replacement for my N800 and I like the look of the Archos 43. How does it compare? touchscreen sensitivity? resolution?
I don't need a smartphone, the talk/message phone I have is enough.

Valeria 2010-12-23 12:53

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

Any new info on this? My N800 died and I'd like to know if it is worth waiting for this or if I should just buy something else.

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

I've also been looking at this one as a replacement for my classic N770.

Any thoughts or hands-on comparisons to the older non-phone Nokia internet tablets?

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

You can get a N900 for like 320 bucks from Amazon warehouse (customer return, but in like new condition).
Even though the screen of the N900 kind of sucks (too small) it has a keyboard and it's a phone too, it has Skype Video, and alot of cool other things.

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

People managed to get MeeGo to the Archos 5, so I wouldn't be surprised if they could do the same with the 43.

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

Well the archos 5 got help, as archos released patches and installable firmware for angstrom.

And now Samsung is making noise about a galaxy player that looks to be a PMP based on their galaxy line of phones...

Anyway Archos 5 in itself seems to be a good piece of hardware.

Well when the 43 arrives it should push the 5IT's price down.
So if you're content with the Android version on the 5IT or want MeeGO, then go for that, otherwise go for the 43.

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

As someone pointed out in the 70 thread, there is now “Special Developer Edition Firmware” for the 43 as well.

I have to say I'm tempted, the 43 looks like the nearest thing to an N800 successor.

Questions for anyone who bought it:
  • how's the virtual keyboard compared to Maemo's stylus one?
  • is the battery life anywhere near as good as advertised?

tso 2011-01-06 12:10

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

well hell, this really made me want to get both a 43 and a 101, as long as it gets good support from the angstrom community.

Radu 2011-01-06 20:45

Re: Archos 43 Internet Tablet

So the Special Developer Edition Firmware allows you to run real Linux applications, not the Java android stuff? I think that's pretty cool, especially if a lot of developers embrace this platform.
