Hi @rmarcus, more easy if you want, you could install the new version, at this time in the extras-testing repository, that implements this change.

Or you should edit the file maxcpu.desktop.
This file is in this path:

/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/maxcpu.desktop

Thanx for the quick response, I just realized that I already have the latest version, and the maxcpu.desktop file is exactly as recommended.
Is there a way to clean any old registry or something like that which could be preventing it from showing up?
Any other ideas?

No registry to be cleaned.
But, can you see the widget in the widget list?

If you want to try the old version, download the package from this link:

Sorry, for the link... corrected.
Maybe you search in the application list, but you should look in the desktop-widget.

Hi, the link works, it refers to the file. install.
You say that does not appear in the list of widgets. This list is what you get by tapping on an empty part of the desktop, then pressing the button configurations. So you see the menu of the desktop that contains the "Add widget". Maybe these are not the exact words, I use the Italian version.

Howdy, yes you were right, the link works, but the version it installs is the latest, so...same problem, I can see many widgets on the list, but not this one, I can see OVI, Google, Tv out, Rss, but no Maxcpu. I was hoping you could have the deb file of the previous version.
Lets wait and see...but thanx for the time you have here so far.

You have a very strange problem!
1) the link refers to the version 0.1.6-2, the last version is 0.1.8-4
2) please put this commands in x-teminal and post the printouts:

This commands creates a log, named maxcpu.log. Send me the result (file maxcpu.log).

From a quick look, I think you need to install the latest version (0.1.8-4 in extras-testing) or changing some lines in the file:

/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/maxcpu.desktop
From:

In the new versions the changes in maxcpu.desktop are already set.

After changes, reboot.
If the problem still, send me new maxcpu.log

p.s: add "&" at end of command permit you to close the x-terminal
python /usr/lib/hildon-desktop/maxcpu.py &

In the log you sended me, the version was the oldest.
But, try to install the "Python runtime environment": Reference at:
http://maemo.org/packages/view/python-runtime/

i have the same problem with maemo55, now my problem of having maxCPU on my desktop solve ;)

but i have a new problem, wonder related to maxCPU or not, now my desktop 'hang' awhile later after i change my cpu speed using maxCPU, i can swipe thru all desktop, but i unable to 'click' on the icon :( i have to reboot my n900 to have the desktop 'work' again. having this problem twice after i used maxCPU. i wonder whats wrong with my n900 :(

please advice.

Hm, it's strange... I do not think it can be a problem created
by maxcpu. It is a very simple widget, not dispensive for the n900.

If you have the possibility, try to connect to the n900 via WinSCP, or some like it, open a shell (from PC) and use the command "top" to verify RAM and CPU utilizations during your normal utilization.
But for me, this is OT in this thread.

recently encounter hildon-desktop-home application error with not responding when the desktop hang... after i yet to close application everything reappear except maxCPU and my personal data. wonder are maxcpu conflict with my personal data :(

I find no correlation between personal and maxcpu and "personal dataplan monitor, apart from the fact that there are two dekstop widget.
BTW maxcpu use only one label and two buttons.
