Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
but will this be limited to only the portions that nokia has released as open source?

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
Is there a list of the patches floating around? That could give us (users ;)) an idea of what might come in the future.
btw: Great project, thanks! |
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
Reading package lists... Building dependency tree... Reading state information... The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: libtpsession libqtm-serviceframework libqtm-publishsubscribe libconninet0 libqtm-messaging qtm-modest-plugin dsme-thermalobject-surface libqtm-versit libconnsettings0 libqtm-bearer libtelepathy-qt4-0 Hmm, seems like the AutoRemover destroyed something which really shouldn't happen. Please file a bug report against apt. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: qtm-maemo-metapackage: Depends: libqtm-bearer (>= 1:1.0.2-maemo1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libqtm-messaging (>= 1:1.0.2-maemo1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libqtm-publishsubscribe (>= 1:1.0.2-maemo1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libqtm-serviceframework (>= 1:1.0.2-maemo1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libqtm-versit (>= 1:1.0.2-maemo1) but it is not going to be installed E: Internal Error, AutoRemover broke stuff Should I run apt-get autoremove, or will it break stuff? (so far everything works except FAppMan) |

Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
This thread can be summarized in one word: HOPE!
I only have one n900 :-) and I'm not a "power user", so I'd like to know if there will be "stable" updates so I can help without being afraid of brick the phone. It is like agree on installing software from extras-testing but not from extras-devel. I'm not a programmer, but my primary language is Spanish. If there is something that must be translated, I'd like to help. |
Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
You wont "brick" the phone, at most you risk a reflash. Use backupmenu, and youll have nothing to loose ;)
|
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
Sorry for asking this as I'm also a non-developer but extremely interested and appreciative of you guys developing and testing this CSSU.
Probably you guys could list out in a sticky or in the wiki about the benefits of trying this? Just a comprehensive list of things that will improve or change when this is installed? that would probably encourage more non-developers like myself to consider and probably test it out to provide feedback from an end-user point of view. Of course, then probably a way to revert to the old hildon-desktop/home if the non-developers find it problematic, instead of reflashing? Thanks so much to this excellent team. |
Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
I am not an power user then also i will give it a try and thanks for supporting MAEMO 5 (NOKIA N900) as nokia has let it in the dust.
May be after this we can again regain glory for Nokia N900 with latest feature which its competitor posses to have and prove the mobile industry that NOKIA N900 IS ONE OF THE BEST MOBILE (COMPUTER) AND WILL BE THE BEST |
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
After switching to community SSU I'm getting this:
Code:
N900 ~ # apt-get -s autoremove Is it normal? If not, any idea what I can do? Thanks. |
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
Great job. Interface feels much faster than before.
|
Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
Thanks for making me believe again in a bright future of my sweet little brick :)
Unfortunately, I'm no programmer, but I have been using Linux for about 10 years now. If I can be of any help, please let me know. I could for example imagine translating program strings and docs to German. |
Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
Thanks a lot for this support.I'll surely try this.
|
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
Are there any plans for updating the Qt packages as has been done in the extras-devel just in the official qt namespace? (the new qtm packages in -devel are in their own namespace so you need to recompile to use them).
Also, any chance of having an updating package list like there is available for extras-devel and with changelogs, so people can follow what is going on? |
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
i do not know where to put this but can we (read: capable ones, not me) replace the modest have some other email client that would handle the multiple MFE? and it would auto download the html page not just show the html email after you hit some button, and if there is a picture attached show the preview of it in the body, or if there is a file attached say .doc or .xls or any-other document have that preview on the body too.
Is this something doable? If this is not the place for this question please remove my post or direct me some-where. Cheers, |
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
hi, thanks for all the good work.
I noticed when i click on a desktop link to a web page two windows open, one the shortcut and the other is the bookmark page. system feels much faster :) |

But today the problem was re-presented... After I installed the community update (in clean phone) I've installed the enhanced kernel and the maemodder, I've received an update notification by the community ssu and I wasn't able to install the update cause it ever says the error message " To update your device to this version of the operating system you must use nokia pc suite on your pc". There is a way to solve this whitout flashing other times ? Thank you for your work. Sorry for my bad english.. |
Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
Finally installed the update.I like the portrait status menu :) .I've not faced any problems during update.I had power kernel installed before updating.Power kernel works with this update.

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
after thinking reallllllly carefully, i decided to try to install this.
EVERYTHING seems normal.. so far the issues that were brought up were the shorcuts?, media player? or other issues? here's what i did (especially for non developers like me): 1. followed the install instructions EXACTLY. 2. reinstalled patches like the desaturate hildon-desktop as how i did before. 3. tried to OC and use it in default stock clock and at default, everything seems extra smooth compared to before. after OC, well... wow. 4. configured transitioncontrol, swappolube, no probs... 5. used tele functions and sms, emails, microb (which seems damn smooth even with a weak signal from my connectified lappie. i'm like downstairs, the doors to the room where the laptop is is closed.. i've never been able to get that sort of reception from that far using the laptop). 6. tried mediaplayer, kmplayer for music, videos, everything went on like before. *note: scrolling is better. really... 7. HAM and FAM works fine, i updated catalogs, searched for upgrades, checked install (but didn't install anything, just see if it could fetch packages and it could) and no problem at all. however, didn't notice any portrait-enabled automatically apps. still have to manually toggle the portrait ctrl+shift+r and media player still looks distorted(thought it wouldn't?).. there isn't any change in the file manager. was it supposed to automatically go portrait? status menu in my n900 has always been enabled portrait thanks to MohammadAG's patch that i've installed before. i'll provide more feedback as i use it more.. |
Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
Installed the updated...
with power kernel 46.. everything is good! :) thanks! |
Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
Ok, i think I solved my by upgrading by XTerminal whit this command : apt-get -f upgrade,,,
The software updater doesn't notice nothing now. |
Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
this work thru HAM only?
as I hate HAM, its like it was made in the stone age |
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
Try installing/removing something with FAM, updating repros worked for me as well, but nothing else did.
Could we please get the package names that were used here so we can know if it is safe to play with autoremove? |
Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
installed. thumbs up from me.
my feedback in another forum... maybe should merge the forums http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...6&postcount=87 Edit: seems like FAM won't be able to install/uninstall anything and says there are unmet dependencies in the packages... |
Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
When i click the details on Maemo 5 Community SSU it shows me problems with application packages missing listed as hildon-desktop (>= 1:2.2.142-4) & in summary it tells me that I require Nokia PC suite to continue installation
How do i solve these two problems as i would love to test this..?? |
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
@zdanee
hmmm.. thanks for suggesting... tried installing/uninstalling things and yeah... it says that the packages have unmet dependecies... would reinstall FAM solve this issue? cause if I'd have to live with HAM only, erm... i think you know what I mean |

Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
Or check pinned packages in /etc/apt/preferences
Unpin packages to update them. |
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
Setting qtm-maemo-metapackage to manually installed should fix the autoremover stuff. I also set dsme-thermalobject-surface and libqt4-translations as manually installed as the autoremover tried to remove them as well.
"apt-get install qtm-maemo-metapackage dsme-thermalobject-surface libqt4-translations" marks them as manually installed |

The Details tab in HAM shows what the blocking the update, the Nokia Error is misleading. Most of the time the blocking is caused by some modification by maemodder or by following earlier howtos about installing modified-hildon-desktop. Some blocking issues that persist after the removal of modified-hildon-desktop and installation of common hildon-desktop are triggered by a crippled file /etc/apt/preferences. Read the content of this important file for the blocking parts, which just contains two-liners instead of blocks of three lines. A valuable record in this file consists of the following lines: Code:
Package: SomePackageName Code:
Pin: SomeDistribution |

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
@Mentalist
Yeah you can run "killall" command to kill hildon-home and reboot hildon-home afterward but the whole point of this is Hildon-home should not becoming unstable after a few days of usage or idle. It should be staying smooth and the same as fresh reboot. My device only got one widget on the desktops. So I don't see why it should crap out after 48hours. The widget i'm using is the media player widget which pretty much Nokia's own. Unless you're saying Nokia's widget is crappily written in python without proper testing then I don't know what to say. I reflashed my device twice in a week but the problem seems to exist after the device uptime is longer than 2days. |
Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
Just remove the name of the packages that you want to unpin from the file.

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
2 Attachment(s)
after fiddling around in xterm for awhile,
realised that there are two things that occur: Attachment 17337 the first one appears to be a list of things that they say to be unneeded anymore... so? uninstall? purge? or let it be? Attachment 17338 it always seems to recognise that hildon-desktop needed to be upgraded when running either apt-get -f install or apt-get autoremove... is that how it's supposed to be? |
