Bona, in you last update, whenever I click start, it does nothing...

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

luiscesjr: go to X-term and start psx4m-gui, all messages displayed post here;

luiscesjr 2011-01-26 12:29

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

I can play them normally on xterm, but the start option in GUI does
not work...

bonapart 2011-01-26 12:30

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

luiscesjr: Open psx4m-gui(not psx4m,psx4m-gles or pcsx) in x-term, select anygame and push start; read x-term and post output

luiscesjr 2011-01-26 12:40

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

I should have done that before...
Anyway, it, as it should, load the directory and the
configuration with it.
But when it comes to the line " Started ", it seems to be starting for 5 mins now...

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

luiscesjr: load time can't change a lot; maximum for 2 seconds; i hope problem in you soft (reboot phone)

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

This is what I get when I try to run some image using the psx4m core or pcsx core with bios enabled:
Code:

Could not open PSX BIOS: "/home/user/MyDocs/emuscph1001.bin".
IMO, there is a missing '/' behind the path to bios folder and the bios file. The path should look like this:
Code:

/home/user/MyDocs/emu/scph1001.bin

luiscesjr 2011-01-26 13:37

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

I guess the problem is specifically with my gui and gles core.
The Gui, I already stated the problem, and with my core,
I always get SGX out of mem event on every iso I try. ( Gles plugin )
This seems to be a powervr driver problem...? ( non emu related )
When I run it with cyclemult it only opens the GLES, and as usual for me,
does nothing =)
Only my rearmed and psx4m cores work.

bonapart 2011-01-26 14:02

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

gx out of mem event is driver/hardware problem, games with big resolution and big numbers of objects per scene cause it
i will fix bios pathes bug some hours later, now you can only rename/move bios to location that he tries to load

Tedri Mark 2011-01-26 14:05

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

I'm also having problems with the updated cores/gui. I'll run from terminal when I have time and let you know what happens.

Getting close though, went through a load of games last night and got them running nicely, whereas before the only one that really ran at a playable speed for me was wipeout 3...

KEEP IT UP!

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

hello bonapart i tried your latest versions with my n900 with 1100mhz and run ultra very fast mortal kombat 3
run very fast rayman 2 and run well videos
run well tekken 3

my only problem that my n900 with 1100mhz crash or reboot , when i am playing about 5 minutes normally.

i only play with 950mhz without problem but speed normal or slow

the emulator run very well in n900 mobiles with 1100mhz or higher

That sounds more like a problem with overheating due to overclocking than anything to so with the emulator itself. I used to have the same thing when I first tried running psx4m at 1.15 ghz...

bonapart 2011-01-26 14:53

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

samipower: yeap, it's your hardware problem (but emu shouldn't require so much mhz IMHO;so i hope in future you will have no need to OC device)

Tedri Mark: i'll try to do the best i can

p.s. gui in repos numbered by .9 shouldn't contain / bug with bios

I know, that's why I said, it's not a emu related problem, it's
a powervr driver problem =)
I have already encountered this on another thing I was doing lately...

Anyway, let's hope your next gui version works for me!
Keep up the good work.

Give a look on your own screenshot, there s a mispelling mistake
on your MyDocs/biosfile.bin

AZ505: update gui
luiscesjr: no mistake =) it's my fault
luiscesjr: another thing have the same problem ? i read a lot of links from google but haven't found any description of this bug; one of explanation said that our gpu have only 24mb of memory and i use more that we have, but i can't approve this

bonapart:i already install lastest version, but still got same problem.

AZ505: install the LATEST version (it was updated hour ago)

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

Well bona, I might be telling you some nonsense now, but look
what I think I know...
(I also did not find anything on google, when I first saw this error)
Maybe somehow we are overloading it.
As this happens, with me at least, only when I use opengles cores,
it's probably overloading the buffer, I don't know how much
the SGX can handle before unloading.

At first sight I thought you were loading it from terminal, but
you loaded the GUI first, then well, yeah, my best advice right now
can only be, update the GUI.

Oh, and just one more really important question...
WTH is this sausage tag back????

bonapart 2011-01-26 16:02

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

luiscesjr: this message appear each frame and freeze whole process to 5 seconds or more, in some games only one place where i can see it (nfs3 + fsaa on load) others games create it at all game process ( tekken 3) so i think that numbers of displayed objects have influence on this (tekken use big resolution according to log from pcsx core)
pandora users have the same error, and they doesn't know any ideas to fix this; EQ said that symbian version doesn't have this problem, but they use sgx 2xxx series, n900 have 3xxx series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Instruments_OMAP)

On symbian you can't write directly to the buffer...
So... Well I guess I enter in contradition with my last statement.

bonapart 2011-01-26 16:22

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

luiscesjr: em, i don't use buffer directly too; i create x11 window and create egl surface on this window (using /dev/fv0 directly cause my device to strange behavior) so i think it's not main difference with symbian

oldpmaguy 2011-01-26 16:57

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

What is the way to update the program? Should I just run the apt-get command again? I did and it told me I had the latest version (I just downloaded yesterday for the first time).

Also, should I see anything in the "bios" slot in the config panel? All I see is a greyed-out slot. I have my bios in the root as I should, and I've used the bios file successfully on many emus before now. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for the help. I'm looking forward to trying out a better PSX emulator on the N900!

oldpmaguy:

root
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
i updated gui twice today, cores once, so yesterday version is very outdated ;-)

for first time you should:
tap title, go to GUI config, select directory where you have all roms, and second one where you keep bios(es) they can be the same
close emu gui, start it one's more
tap title and make default config (you can just enter to it and return back with answer "yes" on save question), make sure that bios name is correct(select another if not)
now you should be able to play ;-)

luiscesjr 2011-01-26 17:24

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

Well, it's just a question of drivers from 2 different versions.
As you see, you don't use directly writting because it's
an option, as you said it caused instability for you, but
symbian do that because they can't write directly.
Different versions, different problems...
I guess we must live with this =)

As you said, we have 24 mb of memory.
If we could, we would...

bonapart 2011-01-26 17:38

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

luiscesjr: more optimization, less textures, less vertexes, moving from gpu memory to normal memory
as you see we have a lot of ways, but i don't know how to do any of this =(

Well, optmization yes, less textures and vertexes.... But swaping memory from gpu to ram?
This goes beyond my few knowledge...
I am sure that with future releases it will be getting better and better.
We have to wait for pandora releases too!

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

I've watched these PS1 emulators for a while, and finally psx4m with GPU acceleration gives decent performance with GTA1.

The only problem is that CD-Audio does not work with psx4m. It works fine with pscx-reArmed.

Is this a known problem or is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks

bonapart 2011-01-26 18:01

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

luiscesjr: all this variant out of my knowledge ( i can't remove any vertex cuz it make video ugly, textures - strange colors)
yeap, Notaz create a good emu core, i still haven't full options list in gui and can't get gles plugin to work.

MrWeasel: i include 2 cores for this: when one refuse to work you can use another, when one is very slow you can use another ...
you can try to check all options one by one (cdda in advanced tab is presented)

I know, but pscx is still too slow, so I guess I'll have to wait until this also gets GPU-acceleration.

bonapart 2011-01-26 18:19

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

MrWeasel: gpu-acceleration is not panacea from all slowdowns
in fact real speedup with gpu-acceleration no more 25%, gpu in psx4m provide better graphic but not a big speed
we should wait news from Notaz\Pandora community about pcsx-rearmed

Fötus 2011-01-26 18:28

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

But the graphic with gpu is really awesome, compared to befor (without gpu). Crash bandicot 3 looks really good and is very playable.
Thanks bonapart for all your hard work!

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

I did the update through Fapman, after I updated the repositories, thanks for the help.

I applied the bios as you said, and it shows up in the slot, now. But I still can't get any images to run. Must the images be bin, or iso, or img, or something special like that? What else might I be doing wrong?

bonapart 2011-01-26 18:41

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

@all
may be we need some movies for newbies\noobs ?

@oldpmaguy
say more expanded what you tries to do, and what's going wrong;

oldpmaguy 2011-01-26 19:13

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

Ok, oddly enough, when I pressed start, and nothing happened, I looked in the config and it showed that the game bin was entered into the BIOS slot! It happened for several different games I tried. Somehow, I kept at it and that stopped happening, though.

So now I get the games to begin (Chrono Cross 1 and Brave Fencer Musahsi), and they both show title and intro, but crash before game begins.

I'll have to check the compatibility list to see if I have any games that work well.

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

oldpmaguy: you can try different cores (first tab), different options for this cores(2\3 tab) or some fix\hacks (4 tab) to speedup emulation

Bona, you can put on your first page what the hacks means,
so that noobs won't need videos, also you will get some more
detailed compability process, as I am sure many people are
keen on trying the emu.
