This has never worked for me. Black screen when launching, then just disappears.
Is the a console command to run it to see what output (if any) it provides?

If tried searching for kasv* but got no program results.

Re: New Facebook Client: Kasvopus

Great looking little app, very smooth transitions and has a really nice "feel" to it. One problem I have encountered is that somehow it is a little picky over whose status update to include. When I look through my FB News Feed with a regular browser (on the N900 or a desktop) I see many status updates that aren't included by Kasvopus. No idea why. Initially thought it may be something to do with FB "Top Stories" and "Most Recent", but that doesn't appear to be the case.

  1. In application manager choose Download - All and type "hot" using the keyboard when the app list opens. You should see "Qt hotfixes" package.
  2. Install "Qt hotfixes"
  3. Reboot the device
EDIT: Updated to remove the need to add devel repository.

Make sure to de-activate (not delete) the Extras-devel repository afterwards from the App Manager so that you don't accidentally install unstable versions of applications as updates.

There is no need to activate Extras-devel, Qt Hotfixes is already in Extras.

Re: New Facebook Client: Kasvopus

Does Kasvopus get updated from the app manager or does it require a .deb install each time like TwimGo?

philheaton 2011-03-09 21:52

Re: New Facebook Client: Kasvopus

deb install only.

Does anyone know why the author doesn't use the repos?

IIRC, you need to be quick and hit the "allow" button before it disappears. I had no problems but I do believe people did and they posted that on the 1st and 2nd pages.

Hi guys,
I just downloaded the update, looks to be working a bit better, but my Notifications aren't loading.

Anyway, as I was reading through some of the comments on the blog, I noticed this link:

http://modern-os.projects.servhome.o...s/LiberFacies/

Looks like Kasvopus has some (healthy) competition, it is one nice looking interface.

What do you guys think? And can any one track down LiberFacies (facebook in Latin apparently)?

i face this problem, too.
to solve this, try to uninstall the 2nd release (0.9.3), and install the 1st release (0.9.2). then do authentication.
after success doing authentication, just upgrade to 2nd release.
it works on mine.

Re: New Facebook Client: Kasvopus

not sure if it was this app but uninstalling it did fix the memory leakage i had.
from the 130mb ram used on normal operation it jumped up to 178mb and stayed like that after 3 days use. i then uninstalled the app and things went back to normal.
great app, keep up the good work. ill try reinstalling it again on the week end to confirm if the leak is from this app.

wooooow!it worked! \o/ You the Man! :) it worked after following your instruction and the new update i can say i never see or come cross any alpha application in any OS i came cross before that work as fast and smooth like this one and in this short time of developing! :-)

N900 baby now we talking!

and to the developer of the app T. Laukkanen all my respect for the success of having the first descent facbook app on N900

Re: New Facebook Client: Kasvopus

No offence to the developer, but would it had been so hard to just use the "Facebook for N900" name ?

I am not Finnish and I feel that by uploading my status and everything from an app named Kasvopus I do no justice to the name of the N900.

Just my thoughts.

Kasvopus is not in the repos, only way to see if there is an update is to check the website (link on 1st post)

Well, that sucks. I understand copyright law is strict, but would Facebook reps really mind? I mean, the developers are actually doing Facebook's job... :|

Yeah, some guy that posted on the substanceofcode blog for Kasvopus V0.9.2. The app is called LiberFacies, can't find it anywhere (other than those screenshots).

Definitely nice Eye Candy, but I'm yet to locate the developer.

Still can't even get this to start, i've installed QT Hotfixes too but no joy. Can anyone tell me the path to the executable so I can try running it from a shell and see if it produces any output?

Yes I would imagine they would mine. Because for the uninformed if they try the Facebook for N900 app and get a bad experience it reflects badly on Facebook since their name is associated with it.

Re: New Facebook Client: Kasvopus

To answer my own question, I found the executable and ran it from a shell. The error was

error while loading shared libraries: libQtDeclarative.so.4: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory

Any ideas?

Re: New Facebook Client: Kasvopus

Hi there. i'm experiencing the infamous 'open... loading... closing' problem. Had installed the Webkit, mobility, etc. tryed the 'start app... open keyb... flip screen'.... nothing.
Then, readed here that the developer had also some twitter app, twingo, that i didnt knewit. Installed it too and... exact some behavior.
The apps starts... it shows on titlebar the app title with the loading circling dots... on the main screen, a empty black screen... seconds later, it closes.
I know it is an alpha/beta version. but so many people thumbing ups for this app (and so for the twingo) that i'm realy curious to try it.
any help guys?
tnks a lot and sorry for my english.

A previous poster found the solution (I can confirm it worked for me too). Uninstall v0.9.3, install v0.9.2, authenticate, then uninstall v0.9.2 and reinstall v0.9.3 and you're good to go.

Make sure you uninstall 0.9.3 first.
