Re: [How To] Nitdroid-Installer: install GingerBread N12 UMay
The Autoinstaller 0.2.8-8 seems to be havin some issues.
I have tried installing Nitdroid N12 using Autoinstaller around 5 times, however there seems to be some problem. I have installed after formatting the phone using vanilla image on N900 firmware site. However, the 6th time, I tried installing NitDroid-0.0.8-Popov using previous old Autoinstaller 0.0.7. And it got successfully installed and Nitdroid was also running properly. After that I tried to upgrade Nitdroid 0.0.8-Popov to N12 Umay using two methods : 1. Downloaded new autoinstaller, and uninstalled previous Nitdroid. And installed new Nitdroid N12 using same autoinstaller. However, against during boot up when I select Nitdroid the same Kernel not syncing error started. 2. Again vanilla flashed and then freshly installed NitDroid-0.0.8-Popov and followed procedure of xuggs to upgrade to N12 as given on his website : http://xuggs.blogspot.com/2010/12/ni...xmasdroid.html After installation again I get the same kernel issue. Can someone please help me on the same. Why is Nitdroid 0.0.8 getting installed using old installer, but the new one is not getting installed? Why am I getting kernel not syncing error? Do I need to have any kernel preinstalled on N900 to install Nitdroid N12 Umay. Please request you to help me. Your kind help and support is highly appreciated. |

Thank you! This is the only thing that got N12 working for me. 0.2.8-8 really messed up maemo, and didn't install android right (kernel panic).

Re: [How To] Nitdroid-Installer: install GingerBread N12 UMay
I gotta say thank you Fabry for the tutorial it was the easiest and best one I have come across in the sea of others out there. Using your one got it installed and also I got to the main screen!
I did have the problem of the logo just hanging there but after I plugged in the adapter for a few mins it came on. I am having another problem though: I get as far as signing in and it runs for a min or two and then says cannot connect to Google server please connect via wifi so I click the wifi button and boom an error pops up "The Aplication Google services framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." with the button force close. If I skip this option a whole bunch of similar errors come up about bluetooth the launcher mms etc and asking me to force close. It seems nothing loads for me. The only thing I can do is restart the device and go back to maemo. Is there something I need to add through maemo to the SD card to get the applications to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for your great tutorial Fabry. |

Re: [How To] Nitdroid-Installer: install GingerBread N12 UMay
Hello all,
How do I prevent the Nitdroid N12 installation to write to the internal memory (which shows up as an sd card in Nitdroid) of the N900 or delete it? Of course i want to keep Maemo intact. Thank you! |

Re: [How To] Nitdroid-Installer: install GingerBread N12 UMay
I figured things out.
I installed the NITDroid 2.7 installer before I installed the dependencies and when I tried to use it I was provided the list of dependencies which had not been met in app manager. I then used "apt-get install" in x-term for each of them and now have all of the dependencies met. Just need to figure out how to partition my MicroSD card.. Don't have an external card reader for MicroSD so I'll need to do it within the N900... if only fdisk were available. EDIT: Found the problem. I installed Power Kernel and Multiboot myself before runnning the NITDroid installer and apparently NITDroid installer likes to handle these dependancies itself. I used Settings>Clear Device and flashed my N900 to remove the Power Kernel then downloaded and ran the installer again. 2.6.8 stopped at Formating ext3 so I upgraded the installer to 2.7 and worked like a charm (but installed popov 0.0.8). Only problem now is finding any software whcih works with this version from the Android Marketplace (Adobe Flash Player 11 does not and many of the games don't make it through install, killing themselves in that process) beyond Open Office Reader.... |

Re: [How To] Nitdroid-Installer: install GingerBread N12 UMay
Doesn't work for me. I am using nitdroid.manifest from post #1, I got it in that damned /home/user/MyDocs directory but it seems ignoring it, it just wants to download its own and then it wants to download nitdroid 0.0.8 Popov instead of 0.1.2 UMay(this is logical if it has its own manifest file).

Re: [How To] Nitdroid-Installer: install GingerBread N12 UMay
I have read through the thread but I'm still getting a bailout message.
To start: Installed the latest nitdroid installer in the repos using apt-get (to get dependencies). Used dpkg to install the real latest installer at the start of this thread. Manually partitioned my 16 gig class 6 micro SD card, as detailed in the wiki, using cfdisk. Downloaded the manifest file attached to this post and put it in ~/MyDocs/.nitdroid/ directory. Called the installer using the file command flag. It does find the manifest file. Manually downloaded the kernel and nitdroid packages on my linux box. Copied over using scp to ~/MyDocs/.nitdroid/ directory. Removed the checksums from the manifest (as some people said this worked for them). Here is the initial bailing out message: Formatting /dev/mmcblk1p1 (vfat) ...done Formatting /dev/mmcblk1p2 (ext3) ...done Mounting /dev/mmcblk1p2 ...done Extracting N12_UMay.tar.bz2 ...done Installing ...FAILURE. Bailing out. Here is the error when looking at the end of the install log: [snipped the files extracting from N12_UMay.tar.bz2] --- END [tar xv] *** DONE *** Installing --- RUN [dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/] dpkg-split: error reading /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/: Is a directory dpkg: error processing /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/ (--install): subprocess dpkg-split returned error exit status 2 Errors were encountered while processing: /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/ !!! ERROR:1 dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/ *** ERROR - CLEANING UP THE CRAP What is the point of failure here? Is it failing when the kernel should be installed? Is it finding the directory the kernel is in, instead of the kernel itself? If the tar extraction is ending properly, does that mean all the android packages were properly copied to the micro SD card? Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: [How To] Nitdroid-Installer: install GingerBread N12 UMay
How can I install newest android version(2.5.7) with 0.2.7 installer? I tried today, but it installed 2.3.4 with actual manifest file. I want to install on microSD. Thanks for ideas.
|
Re: [How To] Nitdroid-Installer: install GingerBread N12 UMay
Yes if you change the manifest it can install newer version.
|
Re: [How To] Nitdroid-Installer: install GingerBread N12 UMay
Do you know how? I changed manifest to instal newest kernel (7rc7) but N12 is still the same, it installs 2.3.4 version.
|
Re: [How To] Nitdroid-Installer: install GingerBread N12 UMay
You need to point manifest to a full archive of 2.3.7 somewhere.
I don't know if this archive http://downloads.nitdroid.com/e-yes/..._2.3.7.tar.bz2 is complete or only an update (to install over 2.3.4) |

Re: [How To] Nitdroid-Installer: install GingerBread N12 UMay
So I have tried the Nitdroid installers both from on the repos and the update installer listed on this thread. As long as I hand format the SD card and make a nitdroid.manifest as the thread instructs I can get the required files to download.
Once I have downloaded rootFS and kernel either by installer or with another computer and dropped into .nitdroid I will always get a checksum error, it seems that no matter what I do the nitdroid installer will add a md5 value even if I have hand trimmed these off, even if I am pointing the installer at local files a check after failure will show that the installer has added the bad hash values to the nitdroid.manifest file. If network is turned off then the installer will fail unable to download a nitdroid.manifest. |
