Re: [Announce] Aircrack-NG 1.1 (Now in Extras-Testing)

C'mon people... It is almost a week after Mentalist promoted v11 into -testing, and still I'm only one that voted for it's promotion into extras? Having in mind what kind of changes new version brings (extremely low chances of breaking something) and how many people responded in this thread, it's a shame that no one cared about doing just little tests and voting.

Still, 9 votes needed. Lets show that we DO respect when someone take orphaned package, and maintain it as good as he (or she, in other cases) can, providing updates, proper optification (I can confirm that former version of aircrack-ng for maemo wasn't really optified, as i got noticeable more rotfs space after upgrade, ~1,5 MB) and other useful things. I think that "giving back some love by (testing and) voting" is basic and simple thing that we can do to motivate...

Re: [Announce] Aircrack-NG 1.1 (Now in Extras-Testing)

Well i will test it but i have one question all i have on my phone is the bleeding edge drivers havent installed them or anything as i now have kernel 47 and just want to find out if there is issues with kernel 47 and aircrack? and is the install still the same as the orginal aircrack?

Estel 2011-06-08 16:06

Re: [Announce] Aircrack-NG 1.1 (Now in Extras-Testing)

Short answer:

Yep.

Long asnwer:

You load bleeding edge drivers just like before, no issues known between aircrack-ng 1.1 and kp47

BTW i remember, when I first time tried to vote for something. Took me half of an hour to determine which one of my maemo.org accounts i need to use here, damn thing just keep kicking out "wrong password or username". Real PITA. Mentalist mentioned it, but better to say it again - You don't use forum login there, but Your maemo.org one. If You always used only forum, just go and create one, its independant from Your forum one.

//Edit

Just one more to go! Last people voting will get potato troffy ;)

Re: [Announce] Aircrack-NG 1.1 (Now in Extras-Testing)

Thank you Estel for getting people motivated! And thank you to everyone who voted!

I have added the 10th vote (you can vote on your own package, though I decided earlier on that I wasn't going to do that unless it's the last vote needed).

Now we just have to wait for the 12th of this month, and then promotion to extras will be unlocked, and at that point I'll push it down to extras.

- Edit -

Also, my current SDK-containing machine has a broken keyboard, but one the new one arrives, I'll put a newer version into -devel.

whats missing on v11 then other than the iw depency? Just curious... :P

Nothing that I can think of, actually (other than more refined symlink adding/removal scripts, although it might be a bit before I make something better, as the current version has no realistically likely issues, and my scripting isn't too perfect yet).

But if the iw dependency doesn't break anything, it'd be nice to push the dependant version down to extras too, because then 'iw' would get pulled down the dependency chain along with it (currently iw is lounging in -devel), at least, I'm pretty sure that's how it works. Actually, I'm not sure if iw will need a bugtracker link directly, or if the requirement for a bugtracker link is waived for dependency packages not in the "user" section.

The only other possible changes are seeing if anything useful has appeared in the Aircrack-NG SVN repository's upstream code, so maybe updating the source used for this port. Also, I still have to do what Hawaii asked - look around for enhancements in the aircrack-ng bugtracker that haven't been integrated into the SVN codebase yet, and possibly add them.

Hey MT,

Thanks for all your great work sofar, I am now using the iw and aircrack debs from this thread.

I have a suggestion for further work; can you look at including the man pages for the aircrack program. The ones I have on my system are of the Debian 1.03 rc3 aircrack-ng deb, let me know if you need me to upload them.

Much appreciated.

Stefan :)

You don't even have to use the ones in this thread anymore - the latest iw in the repos (for armel, at least) will now work. (Unless you don't have -devel enabled, in which case, yes, directly downloading it is more convenient, but hopefully that won't be necessary for long.

Can you run this (assuming this isn't the man pages you're talking about already):
Code:

ls -l /opt/maemo/usr/man/man1/
Because that might answer your man pages question. I don't know off the top of my head (because I never use man, since my first Linux experience was the N900 and the N900 typically has most packages ported to it without the man pages), but I think the contents of that directory should be all you need, they might just have to be symlinked somewhere. Namely from /opt/maemo/usr/man/man1/ to /usr/man/man1/.

Great, glad to hear it's worked for you.

Just a little bit more wait time guys, and I will get the right keyboard for my laptop (I actually had one arrive yesterday, but it turned out I ordered the wrong one...), and then I'll be able to get to my scratchbox environment again.

Thanks, my bad :(. I checked your deb (dpkg --contents .deb) and the man pages are included with the path they are to be installed in. Should have done that before asking the question .

dpkg -L .deb also works. :P

At any rate, no need to apologize. I actually don't mind that you brought it up in this case because it made me remember that there's people out there who actually care about manpages.

Does symlinking the /usr/man/man1/ make the manpages work, by the way? And if so, how does everyone feel about symlinking them to the right directory to work by default?

(I think some people might actually MANUALLY symlink their /usr/man/... directories as a whole into /opt/ or /home/, which would mean I'd have to make sure the symlink add/remove scripts are ready for both possibilities. Though thinking about it now, it shouldn't be too much of an issue with the scripts I have now for symlinking the binaries....)

And we're live and in Extras!!!

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who voted and contributed in some way to this thread, to the people like Hawaii and Estel, without whom I wouldn't have gotten around to doing this, and to the original maintainer, Greg, who graciously accepted my co-maintainership of the package with him.

Wooo! It's in Extras!

Re: [Announce] Aircrack-NG 1.1 (Now in Extras!)

So I looked at the download stats you can see at www.maemo.org for the aircrack-ng package: http://maemo.org/download-stats2/ind...k-ng&os=Maemo5

One: MASSIVE spike when I first took over maintenance in mid-May.
Two: A very healthy albeit smaller spike from where it made it to Extras.

Both give me inspiration. I mean, I thought a lot of people where downloading - I didn't think it was in the thousands.

Re: [Announce] Aircrack-NG 1.1 (Now in Extras!)

Alright, my SDK environment lives! I have finally received the correct keyboard, and my laptop is back up and running. I also have a job now (if I owe you a donation, now's the time to remind me in case I forget anyone...), so my responce/update time isn't going to be AS quick, but I will try to push out an updated version tomorrow. (This will include just iw dependency. After that there's really no roadmap - just depends on how much the upstream code changes how soon, and how many enhancements are appliable from the Aircrack-NG tracker that weren't patched in upstream yet, if any.)

Mentalist Traceur 2011-07-02 05:21

Re: [Announce] Aircrack-NG 1.1 (Now in Extras!)

Put 1.1-maemo12 in the autobuilder. It adds the iw dependency.

Now, here's the issue: Since the correct version of iw only exists for armel, but not i386 (I could only get autobuilder to build it right for armel), this aircrack-ng version will build correctly for both architectures, but will only install properly for armel. This won't effect N900 users because the N900's processor is of the armel architecture. However, this may be an issue for those who actually use the i386 builds (I know of no one, but speak up if you do).

I'll do my best to figure out how to make iw build right in the autobuilder for i386 as time permits, of course, but no guarantees.

- Edit -

Builds succeeded, just waiting for the autobuilder to import it into the repository.

- Edit 2 -

Uploaded to extras-devel successfully. Dependency has been updated. Everyone, let me know if you have any issues - if no one complains for a day or so, I'll upload it to -testing. (The package itself is the same, so if it breaks anything, it's one of those one-in-a-million things if the auto-builder somehow screwed up AND didn't generate an error of any sort.)

Mentalist Traceur 2011-07-04 19:37

Re: [Announce] Aircrack-NG 1.1 (Now in Extras!)

Okay, since no one reported spontaneous N900 combustion, I have promoted 1.1-maemo12 into extras-testing. Hopefully this will pull iw down with it, if I understand the way the repository here works correctly.

Mentalist Traceur 2011-07-04 22:59

Re: [Announce] Aircrack-NG 1.1 (Now in Extras!)

Alright, so sometime between my last post and now, the promoted 1.1-maemo12 made its way to the extras-testing repo (and I see the armel build of iw came with it. Success!), so, test and vote (or just vote if you've tested by using it the last few days already):

Mentalist Traceur 2011-07-16 19:45

Re: [Announce] Aircrack-NG 1.1 (Now in Extras!)

To the people who use this - which I know is more than enough by a wide margin - vote on the package in testing, please?

http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...g/1.1-maemo12/

I know it's not the most convenient thing in the world given the need to log in with a separate account than your talk.maemo.org one, but it only takes a couple of minutes and every time you vote, you help bring a presumably good program to a bunch more users.

Thanks in advance.

Well, got one more vote in the hours after I posted the above. For those who might be going "I already voted when the last version was in extras-testing", remember that every version that goes through Extras-Testing needs to be voted on separately.

MT, Urgent Request!

Can you compile with sqlite support (required for use of database generated with airolib-ng, ie. -r option).

Happy to test it if you need me to. Much appreciated.

Mentalist Traceur 2011-07-28 18:22

Re: [Announce] Aircrack-NG 1.1 (Now in Extras!)

Just replied to you in PM, but might as well answer here for public record - it should already work.

It's been compiled with sqlite support since whenever I figured out how to add make flags to the debian control files (which was pretty early on in my maintainership of the package). airolib-ng should be available already if you're running the version of aircrack-ng currently in the repos.

Well, I get the following error when running the -r option:

Error: Aircrack-ng wasn't compiled with sqlite support

I'm at work right now, so I can't spend much time on this currently, but I'll check back here as time permits.

Anyone else with the current in-repository aircrack-ng package installed have this problem (preferably people who know how to use airolib-ng for database making)? If so:

It's version 1.1-maemo12 - if you run
Code:

dpkg -l | grep aircrack-ng
it should say "aircrack-ng" for package name and "1.1-maemo12" for version. If it doesn't match either of those, that's your first clue.

mooglez 2011-07-28 19:30

Re: [Announce] Aircrack-NG 1.1 (Now in Extras!)

1.1-maemo12
did not get an error about not being compiled with sql support.
"sql error: no such table: pmk.."
obviously because i used a dummy name to test it.. but it did try to access it at least

Mentalist Traceur 2011-07-28 19:36

Re: [Announce] Aircrack-NG 1.1 (Now in Extras!)

Thank you mooglez for checking.

StephanL: you can also try "which aircrack-ng" (it should return "/usr/bin/aircrack-ng" - it's possible you have both my aircrack-ng and another one installed, or more likely, you did at some point and it's possible extra copies of the binaries might be installed somewhere in different directories, which happen to be inside your path and taking priority.

Thanks for the quick reply, looks like this is a ghost copy issue. Now I need to find the errand version :(.

Your symlink in /usr/bin/aircrack-ng might also lead to the wrong place. Try ls -l /usr/bin/air*.

They should all point to /opt/maemo/usr/bin/air*. Same for all the other aircrack-ng tools (most are symlinked in /usr/sbin, to /opt/maemo/usr/sbin, and some in both usr/sbin and usr/bin don't start with "air"). If you haven't tried that yet, see what that command gives you.

Found the errand version using "sudo which aircrack-ng". It was in /usr/local/bin.

Thanks again MT for the great support. Now I can go back and work on fAircrack :D (shameless plug).
