Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
can someone else please confirm the latest version in the repos (0.6.0.1) actually works with no errors? I tried 0.0.6-1 and 0.0.6-2 which both did not work. Thanks
edit: version 0.6.0.1 works!! |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
so they dont show in app menu. if you add a category called "hidden" which we could add apps to, the category is not visible in app menu, therefore app shortcut not shown.. thanks

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
The original Catorise supported a _hidden option against which things could be put (as well as _root for the top-level)
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
cool, so it should be implemented soon :D

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
Both 0.6.0 and 0.6.0.1 installed fine for me without errors, but something about 0.6.0 really mangled my config. Even uninstalling catoriseplus and installing the original catorise still left my categories really messed up, even after reboot. But I manually removed every catorise-related file and folder I could find on my file system and started from scratch. After doing that and reinstalling 0.6.0.1 my n900 seems happy now.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
please note that you will lose all your custom menus..
sudo gainroot apt-get purge catoriseplus # or apt-get purge catorise since you said you installed it rm -r /opt/catorise apt-get install catoriseplus |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
Sorry for the complication with the 0.6.0 version /:
Next time I'll test it better. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want

But I'm wrong obviously. ;) And by the way: would be great if you could update the changelog when releasing new version. It's easier to check that changelog when upgrading (at least using fapman) than to visit some website. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
One suggestion, as I just could have used it ;)
Could you add an option (either to menu or by commandline) to restore system menu and have catorise re-aarange it again, i.e. to begin from scratch, just as it was newly installed? Would make it easier to restore some functional menu as well as to restore from some not-so-clever customizing. A backup of customized menu could be done and maybe an option to restore that one again. Now I'm just finished restoring the menu by completely uninstalling catoriseplus, removing folder /opt/catorise and installing catoriseplus again. Before installing it, all icons were uncategorized. Is that correct? I thought, in case of uninstallation the system menu should get activated again. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
why not use apmefo? then you can create your own folders and put whatever apps in whatever folder :D
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
Because we discuss about catorise (plus) and not apmefo (:
And we would like to improve the app. ^^ |

With catoriseplus you can create own folders and you can put applications to whatever folder you like. But contrary to apmefo this helper is easy to use and way faster. And it works automatically too! |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
feurigel please confirm, i have version 0.5. something, if i upgrade to the current version 0.6.0.1 is everything alrite with this version or will it mess my menu thanks

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
It should work with 0.6.0.1.
But you can backup your files like: Code:
cp -aR /opt/catorise/share ~ Code:
cp -aR ~/share /opt/catorise/ |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
i tried to install this app today thru apt-get in xterm it went about 90% of the way i had catorise installed before it removed tht an then failed after setting up catoriseplus in xterm.
now my problem is FAM is showing me its not installed but it is so i cant remove it how do i fix this ? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
you can try this on command line (as root):
dpkg --configure --pending Maybe there are leavings from catorise which disturb installation of catoriseplus (shouldn't happen but who knows ...). check if catorise is still marked as installed by typing dpkg -l | grep catorise (this is a pipe sign in the middle) you should see some lines with catoriseplus and maybe catorise. catorise should start with 'rc' if listed at all. If it's marked with 'ii' or sthg else you should uninstall both packages manually by typing dpkg -r catorise catoriseplus Afterwards (a reboot would be good at this point) you can install it again, either on commandline or using fapman. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
thanks again for your work !
some suggestions concerning Catorise Gui : 1) this is probably not that important and doesn't affect functionallity or usability, but you may want to fix : when the user creates a new category, a hildon-style banner shows up telling the user that his category has been created and to click save in order to reload the menu, however the menu still reloads without clicking save. the user may want to customize the menu and create multiple categories/edit existing ones/re arrange items then reload the menu once he is done. if hildon automatically reloads the menu once modified, you can circumvent this by creating a new folder some where, create the new directories there, if a user changes a directory make .change file for example describing the changes. then once the user selects save, move those directory files to the appropriate folder, and apply the changes descried by the .change file, meaning don't actually make any real changes until the user click save, till then keep all changes virtual. this should prevent redundant reloading of the menu. 2) this is a hard one; you may want to reconsider the arrangement of the UI, instead of having a list of applications with a list box beside each one, you can try a more organised UI, a hildonized alacarte UI perhaps ? alacarte is coded in python, you may want to take a look. thanks in advance. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
I have a strange problem with catoiseplus:
All went fine until now. It's the first time I installed new apps after the installation of catoriseplus. I can see the new apps in the menu, but i can't find them in catoriseplus. So i'm not able to chose in which category my new apps should go. Any hints? I've rebooted my devoce already . |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
Hello feurigel, thanx for your prompt reaction. I've installed Atomic Tanks and handsoff.
Both were in no category. Meanwhile i purged catorise plus - but I had to delete the catorise folder in opt manually. Afterwards I reinstalled catoriseplus and for the moment the problem is solved and i don't know if the problem will appear again. Maybe it was because i've renamed every given category? If it happens again i will tell you. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
Question:
Is there Drag&Drop class/feature/library in maemo UI? It would make apps like these quite easy to use, fast and most importantly intuitive. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
any chance of the hide option to be added?? thanks

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
Seems like it doesn't detect the Open Media Player icon.
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=72156 It shows the icon only in the "All" section. Any way to get this fixed? Edit: After installing any app, catorise automatically refreshed, so it added the Open Media Player icon too. Maybe add some "refresh" button on the Catorise Plus options? |
