FOSS communities are large, but the true 'engines' are usually very few and far in between. A very very small minority of the whole... but they are the ones that made and move these communities

Carsten, you are one of them.

You will be missed, but not forgotten. See you on the flip side :)

Your coding skills are well known and much valued by all of us. However, for my part, I would like to say thank you for the clarity you have broufght to discussions and for setting a lot of us straight, especially with regards to the technical aspects in the opaque world of the closed sections. It's sad that frankness produced toxic responses from others.

Is this a sign to show that I should be moving away from my N900 as well? Or stay away from Nokia forever.

I hope this is not end of the Meego dev on n900 just leaving this forum.

Clear your mind. The wonderful thing about technology is that there's a lot of it, its diversity and it is dynamic.

Nokia + WP will be super hot, untill the opposite is proved. But that is at least 6 months from now. iPhone was super hot, but proved to be dead boring. Android was super hot, but proved to be dead boring. Maemo was super hot, and still today almost 2 years after launch there is nothing to compete with it ( I also got my N800 from ages ago). Bada is super hot. Symbian Anna is super hot (getting a E6 any day now). Whether the E6 will take over for my N900 remains to be seen, Bada did not, nevertheless Symbian and Bada are both hot and fun.

Unless it is boring, keep on going and have fun. :D

I must be kidding because I voluntarily confessed I didn't understand that whole episode? I knew he had problems with the council but never knew the specifics.

So the topic is how great Stskeeps is and it's perfectly ok to call for the stomping of abiluk -- that is completely on topic. Ok...

Oh, don't worry about it. In order to prevent WP from getting super hottie, Microsoft has already announced Windows 8 on ARM, which could run Windows application like Microsoft Office natively (ARM compiled) and Microsoft also assures that apps that could run on would definitely not be compatible with WP7.

If you see the smoke, it's the effect of cold water pouring on over-heated unborn Nokia WP7 phone.

I was on the Council at the time (IIRC). I didn't know he (qwerty12) had problems with anyone on the Council, nor felt particularly strongly about the the concept.

Well, I don't really get this - trolls are there to be ignored.
Don't feed them and they'll starve to death.
Simple as that, IMO.

Aww.

I'm sad to see you go, sir, because I don't think I'll be following over to MeeGo.com. There's not many left of your calibre here.

It must have been one of my mad couple of months at work because I never actually worked out why qwerty left us. He was just gone.

On the topic, thanks for your hard work Stskeeps, see you in #meego-arm

The fact that you never read the rant 'closely' is important here. Anyway, for the record, based on what I remember of the information that floated around after qwerty12's departure, the situation was actually very similar. There was some fella referred to, who I believe constantly spewed the same kind of stuff in the IRC that abill_uk and some other folks are declared to be spewing here.

Qwerty12 didn't explicitly express it the way Stskeeps did it, BUT it was a psychologically important influence in that situation. On the other hand, qwerty12 was also annoyed with the Maemo situation as a whole, namely the repository promotion process, how stuff lounged in -devel and -testing, etc.

I'd just as soon not continue participating in the stskeeps-qwerty12 exit comparisons. I'm sure a search here could turn up the main thread though.

There is a vast amount of publicly available information on the current development of Meego Developer Edition for N900, targets and everything, but its over on the meego.com sites, not here.

Here is a page that you might find most interesting: http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/N900/Summer_Release It covers the plans and progress for the upcoming MeeGo Developer Edition summer release, on June 22nd. Not just promises, its got the info for each feature and bug targeted.

To get even closer to the bleeding edge, there are the mailing lists https://meego.com/community/mailing-lists and IRC https://meego.com/community/irc-channel where discussion happens live. I often find browsing the IRC logs is educational http://mg.pov.lt/meego-irclog/index.html

Hope this helps :)

I was around, but I missed it since I'm not interested in the n900.
Search the forum for his last message, best rant ever.

Re: Stskeeps says bye! o/

When anything is more popular there'll then be more trolls on its side so keep leaving something doesn't help, it's the basic nature of open forum. False informations should be corrected by restructuring the information tree, adapting a wiki or something. Run a dedicate thread for a leaving or a few of stickies wouldn't help either. This kind of communication (the forum) isn't good in anyway for feeding references so don't expect it to do that.

PS. and running a thread for life time banning some trollings is one the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

Take care, Stskeeps... you're one of the few people that would often cut through the bleak, disconnected skepticism with informed optimism that Nokia themselves never offered. I hope you do well everywhere you go!
