Thanks for the info – so you’re in Pak? My wife is there and has a black 64GB N9 that I bought in Qatar recently – I am in the US and travel to pak often – good to see that nokia is advertising the N9 there- saw an ad in Karachi that a Pakistani tech site had snapped but this is the first time I have heard anyone mention actual audio/video ads Did you say you have an N9? Do you use a case other than the one supplied? I have another reason why I ask – she has Ufone as service provider and I did submit a bug to the bug tracker – but it seems that it might be a service issue and not a N9 issue – bug # 325 – SMS length > approx. 100 chars don’t seem to be actually sent – they seem to be sent – but never received on my end on my N8 Can you please try? If anyone else wants to try and replicate - id appreciate it... iv been lurking - watching this board since august time....watching the N9 news and its good to find all the good info here.... |
Re: N9/Maemo6/Nokia General Chit-chat
I am in Pak visiting family for a while. Bought my N9 from Dubai. It really is a rare device but this is the only place where people know the device and recognise it easily. The marketing is no where like the Lumia is in Europe but its pretty good. No other manufacturer is closing in on Nokia thought i do sense HTC/Samsung trying their best. iPhone remains a toy.
I use the standard black case. Works fine. Pleased with it. I meant to see if I could find other accessories for it. I'm going to raja bazar tomorrow in islamabad so will see what chinese imported goods are available for our N9. I would love to test this bug. But just noticed I dont see a word count in SMS. Any easy way to ensure i reach the 100 chars to carry out a successful test. |

Nokia N9 : The "Unfollow" Commercial
http://advertising.chinasmack.com/20...-bingbing.html http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/9207/n9unfollow.jpg Nokia-China's "Unfollow" ad depicts a young woman as she tries to differentiate herself from the rest of the pack... She says: -If others choose to endure, then I choose to resist. -If others choose to compromise, then I choose to fight. -It doesn’t matter if the future will be brilliant, I won’t give up on today. -You may think I’m crazy. As I think everyone else is too ordinary. -I am true. I will show my true self. This is worth watching, thus I thought of sharing with u guys [if u haven't already seen it yet]... pls have a peek. since i dont have the N9 - i cant say for sure - but i was pretty sure that the character count was visible.... i know that conversation view is different to the N8 message view - but i thought it was there - perhaps someone there could chime in? The kink in the "bug" might be that she is sending sms internationally - and perhaps it doesnt like the "+" or needs the "00" in front of the country code- but i got her to send to my UK o2 sim - no problems but cant get long sms to come through to my US att sim... she had a nokia supernova before - still has it - and that seemed to work ok - i have held off getting her to switch too many times as im rather nervous of popping that micro sim in and out... |

Re: N9/Maemo6/Nokia General Chit-chat
I've purchased two N9s & going for the third !
I don't know why, but due to some inconceivable reason I went & purchased the 'Blue' [Cyan] one today. The store didn't have the 'red' [Magenta] one & asked me to visit them after a week. I already have the Black N9... now waiting for the Red. I guess I've gone bonkers [as someone rightly pointed me before!]. Quirky me, I'm deeply in love with this phone !!! This 'wow factor' hasn't been noticed with any since the iPhone 3G was launched... The N9 is haute couture ! |

Nooo tissot, why are you abandoning ship!?! That's exactly what Elop & co. want you to do :( I'm not sure if you've been following closely recently. But you can get N9 for pretty decent prices in NA now.* And with good support via places like negri electronics etc. Of course not as great outright as it would've been, if it had been made officially available. But much better than it was just a few short months ago. *haven't been following UK closely but I'm sure its similar |
Re: N9/Maemo6/Nokia General Chit-chat
Is Nokia back in the game with N9?
The Nokia-N9 is sleek, beautiful, intuitive, smooth, addictive - if I may say [I can't seem to put it down from my hand since the day I purchased it] and it is amazing! So given its awesomeness, is Nokia now back in the consumer smartphone game? Short answer, No. Why? Because they messed up - and we helped. The N9 is an absolutely awesome piece of kit. A sturdy, functional, well polished and feature-complete device. Heck the browser even supports multi-touch events. So if this device is so good, why aren't they back in the game? Because the N9 does not represent the "future" of Nokia. It is the last of the Meego powered devices that Nokia plans. Their future aligns tightly with Microsoft and focuses on shipping devices with the Windows Phone 7 operating system. We did this We all thought Nokia was down and out, a company that once dominated the mobile industry seemed destined to fade slowly into the night. I suspect some very talented engineers at Nokia, however, felt differently and put an incredible amount of work into creating both Meego and the N9. It is 'we' who are to be blamed. B'coz all of us had been doubting Nokia and all along were predicting Nokia [being doomed] to fail. This is what that led Nokia to ditch Meego and partner with MS for a future with Windows Phone riddled devices. What a tremendous shame. Here I hold in my hand a truly awesome piece of technology. One that surely gives its iRivals a serious run for their money. A piece of technology that feels better than any Android phone on the market, but has no future roadmap. An Apology and a Plea To the team at Nokia (who may well no longer be there) who crafted this device, let me say - "I'm sorry. You deserved better." To the Nokia management and decision makers, please reconsider your decision to move away from Meego and focus on the WP-OS. Not only have you shown that what you had with Meego was excellent, I believe you are potentially coupling yourself to a product roadmap in WP7 that does not align well with a mobile technology company. Definitely MS and WP7 are not the best fit for Nokia. Spread the Word If like me, you have bought an N9 and feel the same way - tell your friends. Tell your fellow developers, and tell your clients who you build mobile apps / websites for. This is a device that deserves respect and serious consideration. My belief is the jury is still out within Nokia on Meego. And adoption & positive feedback on the N9 could definitely influence future decisions. Coupled with the generally poor response that Windows Phone 7 has had (I still don't know anyone who really cares about it) I genuinely believe that Meego has a fighting chance... But then, what do I know. I thought WebOS could have changed the world... What's more concerning is that the Lumia's already at parity.
At that rate it'll be significantly cheaper in another mth or so. Then again it always should've been "slightly" cheaper... Given that hw-wise it's substantially more limited, & even OS-wise in many respects. |

Re: N9/Maemo6/Nokia General Chit-chat
I've been reading Lumia800 vs N9 comparison reviews and they all agree that the Lumia800's keyboard is better. Does Nokia have any plans to put the N9 keyboard on par with Lumia800's? I know the main pros of the Lumia800 keyboard are the next letter prediction and auto-correct. Since the N9 will be my first full touchscreen phone, I'm hoping I won't miss the N900's physical qwerty.
|
Re: N9/Maemo6/Nokia General Chit-chat
N9 keyboard has also been thanked a lot on the reviews. Nokia has probably created the best tactile feedback for the keyboard there is on N9. iPhone and N9 keyboards are different, but i would rank them about the same.
iPhones advantage over N9 could be that it knows to throw special characters on the main keyboard when you need them (example when typing email address there's @, typing domain name, you got .com), not needing to go in to miscellaneous characters Though Lumia 800 might indeed just have the best keyboard of any TS phone i have tried. Coming from a guy who have owned, or owns GS, Iphone 4, N9 and Lumia 800. It got amazing way to register just the right buttons even when typing quite carelessly. |

I loved the N900. I had 2, the first was a pre-order. I cant stop modifying the N9, same as the N900. But its lighter, thinner, more stylish, faster, has better screen, better battery life, seems more mainstream so it gets more Store apps, etc, etc. For me, the N9 IS the successor of the N900. |

NEW : Time Lapse App for our N9
A new app is available at the Nokia Store: FastMotion Timelapse Camera, developed by Harald Meyer (the same developer who brought us Camera Pro for the N8). FastMotion timelapse recorder turns N9 into a timelapse (time-series) video recorder. Timelapse videos can be created both from the live camera, as well as from previously captured pics (eg. the gallery). Qorax |
