Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release

Hello,
I serached around a bit and I'm sure someone asked this already but I couldn't find it:
Will a future release of CSSU include "real" protrait mode for all the Maemo stock apps? By "real protrait" I mean that the screen rotates AND its entire content is shown, without the need to scroll sideways.
I have the current latest testing release, and e.g. in Media Player and Conversations, bottom half of display is empty when in portrait, while half of screen content is hidden to the right and side-scrolling is necessary to see it.
Is Maemo 5 gonna see this fixed?
thanks, ben

Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release

Hope some one can help me but is it safe to install the Stable CSSU with the latest stable Power Kernel 2.6.28.10power42 already installed??? Will they live happily together and still allow me to overclock my N900.

If so, is there anything I need to change before or after installation of the CSSU\P-Kernel to ensure they both perform as intended?

I'm also worried that when it comes to updating the CSSU or Kernel with new stable releases if they will install without issue to each other.

Really appreciate some advice before bricking my device.

you go to http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/FeaturesStable
and check out the hildon-desktop section, it's even the first command

CSSU Configuration has CSSU in the name, but is not developed by the CSSU team

Yes they will live happily together.
CSSU doesn't inlcude its own kernel yet, and if we at some point include one we are going to make sure that it does not interfere with user installed kernels.

Thanks Merlin, I'll give the Stable CSSU a go later.

It's great to see all this active development. I was gonna get a N9 but with all this stuff going on in the N900 world I think I'll wait ;)

I've read several times that cssu testing is better than cssu stable when it comes to features and "putting it to the edge"....

I haven't tried any cssu and now I want to install the cssu. So, could anyone tell me what are the better features present in testing cssu?

Thanks for your great work for releasing the testing and stable releases:)

what testing has over stable atm:
improved modest (email client), though that is going to go into stable this week
possibility of different wallpaper on portrait desktop, this still has some bugs so not in stable
camera-ui2 also has still bugs which prevent it from entering stable
newer maemosec, that one will come with next stable too
testing will also get a better tv-out control panel plugin together with a status menu and desktop widget in the next update

Thanks merlin!

So,if some of those features are comming in the next stable update, then it is better for me to stick to the stable cssu, right?

But, if I downloaded the cssu stable now, and after that the updates you mentioned were released, then how can I get those updates?should I reflash my phone again to do that?

Thanks again!

OMG dear TMO users!
Just because we are known as a great and helpfull community, it doesn't mean you can't use google and type there such words as "CSSU wiki" or "maemo CSSU"

Even though I do agree with Alfred there I'll still provide the link:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU#What_is_it.3F

So no you don't have to reflash, you'll just recieve an update in the application manager.

Also in general it might be usefull to check http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU before posting here since a lot of information is right there.

The first Upgrade is here!

This version (21.2011.38-1Smaemo2) indroduces the upgraded modest to cssu-stable.
Also included is an upgrade to the root certificates that blacklists a compromised Malaysian certrificat and a small fix to the metapackge to prevent upgrade issues with libqt4-test.

Edit: The dependency for modest-l10n was faulty thus preventing an upgrade through ham, 21.2011.38-1Smaemo2.1 has that fixed and should be in the repo in a few mins.

Sadly not, it is possible if you use stable, but in testing you can't get rid of it.

You probably only don't see them because they don't have a background assigned yet. Simply drag the 4 visible desktop to the left and tap the black space right from the 4th desktop (do all that in the menu where you enable/disable desktops).

When i installed CSSU stable, i try the 9 desktops and works, i just need 4, so left 4.

I saw the post (before update new version), tried and didn't work anymore.

Installed new version and don't work either, that's wierd.

Just not going left (or right), just show 4 desktop.

If you try in potrait, go left until the 4 desktop active, but not more than that, and you can go right to the 1 desktop.

I tried locking just in landscape (with orientation lock) but didn't work either.

Almost forgot, modest settings don`t go left either, i mean the word are short but when you try to go left to see the rest, don't do it.

The same happen in HAM in potrait, when you saw the details of an app, resume and description goes fine, but install don't go left.

Greetings.

Thanks guys. CSSU stable is working perfectly. I don't know what you did to the email client in the latest update but for the first time in nearly 2 years, it actually works as it should, no more hanging for an eternity. Thanks again.

CSSU Stable works well... :)
Thanks to all of you!!

I am thinking are we getting updates soon for stable? ;)
What if Nokia suddenly sent an update for N900 are we capable of having this updates as well in CSSU stable?

Is it safe to uninstall CSSU Features and orientation lock?... which I have installed after updating to CSSU Stable.

Thanks and More power to CSSU Team!:)

Hi!

I installed CSSU Features and orientation lock after I installed CSSU Stable to have Portrait mode, forced on all applications and yes on screen keyboard works well with my N900 in portrait mode as well.

Updates for stable will come when the next testing release has had it's quarantine time.

That depends on what is in the possible Nokia update, open source packages will instantly end up in cssu, other binary blobs need approval from nokia, but so far we always got it.

Orientation lock can be uninstalled without any problem.
CSSU Features is a 3rd party application, so it *should* uninstall just fine too

Just confirming that you can uninstall without any issue or functionality loss.

If you have an issue with it and you don't get enough help from other members sent me a PM.

Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release

This looks very, very promising, but my install didn't seem to go as planned. First, I clicked through the various stages without problem, until it finally returned to Application Manager with no further changes (5 minutes). At this point I went to my apps and found the new CSSU icon. I clicked on this, and it sent me back to App Mngr for the Maemo 5 update. However, it got hung up on updating the repositories before performing the update. I backed out of App Mngr and rebooted. Now the CSSU icon I briefly saw was missing, though when I returned to App Mngr and clicked on "Updates" it found the Maemo 5 update and installed it. My phone rebooted again, but I still don't have an icon in my app tray. I then installed the CSSU features .deb package through Maemo.org, which seems to be working fine through my power menu. However, I still don't have a CSSU icon in my app tray. Should I have one? I assume that CSSU is working properly since it's already alerted me with a yellow exclamation point in my status box about an Ovi update available to Docs to Go. Are there some terminal commands I should use to determine if CSSU is properly installed? Thanks in advance for your advice and assistance. Jeff

P.S. I should further add that I do have an "About Community SSU" icon and info in my settings panel (Community SSU installed, Version 21.2011.38-1maemo2.1), and I also have the CSSU Features icon in my app tray, just no Community SSU icon in my app tray.
