The same applies to the guy who said he will enable SR for 950MHz/1GHz - there is just no support for those frequencies, won't work (at least not stable).

it works at 950 Mhz SR enabled. but it changes voltage to 60 even i put 52 in my profile. and it's stable no reboots in 2 days. What are the risks to fry it with SR enabled at 950 MHz and voltage 60?

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Devel

After using kp50 for 2 days now, i noticed two issues that i didn't have with kp49:
1. when listening to music with someplayer, every 2 minutes there is a small "jump" which is very annoying.
2. Video recording at 1280 resolution is VERY laggy (i'm using it with dsp profile on). Is this a known issue?

Thanks for all the hard work you invest for making this device to what it is.

Video itself, or just a viewfinder during recording? The latter is normal, and it *should* look like this. Be sure to double-check if resulting video really stutters.

i was testing this red light solution..its really almost ideal..too bad i have to edit the 0 to 1 in the file on each reboot..shoud be permanent imo..as one should choose once one of the options for the behaviour of the device and not be forced to go back to default everytime...otherwise works great.

video lags in default media player. its still playable but lags. its in mkv format. resolution-496*384. but in sib player it lags like. sound playes before the video. its unwatchable. why? i faced this problem with kp49 too. but thought it would fix it kp50

no - i meant for the actual recording - i tried to play the recorded video both on my pc and n900 and it has many jumps that were not before...

Well, if you want help or are trying to help, at least you can do your problem report something like:

"When playing this [placeholder for link to the buggy video] video, I have [placeholder for the problem description] problem. Please find attached my syslog and dmesg output.
My kernel-config is:
[
...
]

I don't have speedpatch and batterypatch installed."

Stating the video resolution of a some random video is not very helpful.

Some process eating your CPU time? The device was not settled by the time you were trying to record the video? HAM doing updates on background?

You have an avoided frequency set as min. GO FIGURE!

Mohammed Muid 2012-03-21 12:02

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Devel

the min frequency automatically changes. sometimes it shows 250. its the dsp profile that came with kp settings with kp50. i just changed the max freq to 850. nthn else

Not a problem AFAIK.

@Mohammed Muid, waiting for the other requested information. But please, gather all in one post, spreading it over several posts does not help.

If set at 250, that's the minimum, it can't go below, but it can go above and reach the max based on load. 850 is max, it can't go above, but it can go below to its min if the phone is done with a task. Minimum frequency is not jumping, that's a constant and so is max.

Wrong, I assume that to be a sweet spot(for my usage) re OC/EM/battery life. I have SR stable up to 900 on my devices for the last several months. But my primary phone is 2 years old, so I lower OC from 900 to 805, just in case.

Anyway, the user I asked that question does not seem knowledgabe enough to properly OC his n900 to 1GHz (i.e. proper undervolting, testing, monitoring, etc). Thus my point.

I'm not saying it's a problem, but this kind of negligence will be a reason for future problems. You are setting an avoided frequency as min, in other words, no supported frequency is defined as min. It may not be a problem in this area, but in others it might be fatal ;)

So your N900 is not overclocked anymore :p :)

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Devel

for me battery drainage is extremely high with kp50. i only used my phone for msging and browing for a total of 20mins and media player for 2hrs. where in kp49 at the same time it was 50 percent in kp49. i installed kp50 after a full reflash of rootfs and emmc. y? my battery is now 6 percent. my phone was in standby for like hours. suddenly when i touched it.it was hot. smthng was running bt what? help me plzzz

@PATLAK
this is my dsp profile that i load. i just copied it from /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/dsp

# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - CREATE A COPY OF IT FOR CUSTOMIZATION
# minimum frequency to use
MINFREQ=250
# maximum frequency to use
MAXFREQ=850
# list of frequency configurations: each "frequency:volt,dsprate"
FREQS="0:30,90 125:30,90 250:38,180 500:48,360 550:54,400 600:60,430 720:60,520 805:60,600 850:60,600 900:60,600 950:60,600 1000:60,600 1100:72,600 1150:72,600"
SMARTREFLEX_VDD1=1
SMARTREFLEX_VDD2=1
GOVERNOR=ondemand
UP_THRESHOLD=95
SAMPLING_RATE=300000
IGNORE_NICE_LOAD=0
POWERSAVE_BIAS=0

min freq is 250. why does it show 125 when i type kernel-config show. but sometimes it also shows 250 with kernel-config show

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Devel

@Mohammed Muid - to check which process is using MPU, just type "top" without quotes in terminal, or run conky. And If you need assistance on such simple things, I would recommend you to stay away from -devel repo

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Devel

i had the same set of application when i had kp49. exactly same. why would this happen now. i experienced wonderful batterylife with kp49. without batterypatch. then i flashed rootfs and emmc. then installed kp50. and exactly those applications when i had kp49. i am really confused. ok i will post the output of top here once my battery is fully charged.

No need to wait for battery to be charged to run top, it just shows active processes and their MPU usage, battery charge does not matter. And no need to post top output here, just check if there is some process which constantly uses MPU.

The other tool you could use is powertop (google a bit how to install and use it)

Did you check your wifi power settings? Because if wifi is running without power management enabled, the battery will be flat in a matter of 4-6 hours and the device will become hot.

I will ask you once again for dmesg output. To get it:

- open terminal
- cd /home/user/MyDocs (type it exactly how it is here, with capital M and D in MyDocs)
- type "dmesg >dmesg.txt"

Then upload dmesg.txt here. You will find it in main(Nokia N900) folder in File Manager.

BTW I am experiencing the same(if not slightly better) battery life with KP50 as with KP49.

Maybe a shot in the dark, but I had a similar problem after upgrading to pre50 kernel. Script /etc/event.d/fmtxpower was making some problem, and there was bash instance that was constantly using 100% of cpu time, until I killed it manually. I've just moved this file from event.d folder so it's not executed at boot and everything is fine.

As already suggested, start 'top' and see if you have some process that is using cpu; if it is someting starting with 'bash echo ...', you might have the same problem as I did.

Bye,
ivan

@freemangordon
proceeded as you reomended in PM.
problem is not solved..one thing i noticed is that the reboot is more frequent if i open lens cover while in portrait mode..the layout of the camera-ui appears for a second all weird...another second of black screen..and then reboot..
http://www.MegaShare.com/4039386
this is a link to the file you asked, hope it helps, and you can help me:)
...another issue is the red light and the 0 always coming back after a reboot..its a pain really and makes no sense imo..is it just from my device?is a decision on cssu team? any way to make the 1 stay forever?
tks a lot for your availability to help out.

using kp50 for 3 days and almost everything works fine:
opera working
hd record - fine, better (smoother) than kp49
hd playback - fine, video is loaded much faster!
red led disabled :D
...and reboot problem still exists :(

tomorrow i check how about bluetooth headset.

Running default profile with SR enabled. KP50 is working great, for me battery life is much improved over KP49 with my usage.

KP49 drained the battery quickly when running media player on my device , KP50 does not. I didn't bother digging into why 49 did this.

Updated to V50 with speedpatch and batterypatch installed.
Everything working fine so far, also battery life seems to be greatly improved.
Thanks Pali great job :D:D:D

For everyone, who want to have camera indicator red led disabled for good (persistent through reboots), but we're too shy to ask ;)

1. Create (as root) a text file (called, for example, 'custom') in /etc/event.d/

2. Paste this content into Your 'custom' file:
Code:

description ''custom''
start on started hildon-desktop
stop on starting shutdown
console none
service

script

echo 1 >/sys/class/i2c-adapter/i2c-2/2-0030/disable_indicator_led

end script

3. At the end, You should have a file: /etc/event.d/custom containing content from point 2. You're done - now, Your indicator led will be disabled for good, unless You enable it manually, via changing sys entry to 0 via hand, during runtime. Even still, after next reboot, indicator led will be disabled again.
---

To undo, just delete /etc/event.d/custom (as root: rm /etc/event.d/custom)

/Estel

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask. If it's not, please direct me to the right place.

I have an application that needs iptables support. kernel-power v42, which I have in my N900, supports iptables but not the NFQUEUE target. Does kernel-power v50 support NFQUEUE?

If you have still problems, uninstall all multiboot packages (kernel power bootimg too), update kernel-power and then install your multiboot back... This should work.

I was able to update the kernel successfully via terminal and I didnt have to uninstall multiboot too... But after updating to kp 50 i too got the same error and it was b'coz the phone was booting into kp49 by default, then i selected the kp 50 option during startup in multiboot.
