You are bringing life back to the forum through our phones @bibek :)
Thank you for you great work.

One small thing for MeeGo forum:
The dark grey color for thread titles would look great if changed to #562A7A

Hi bibek
Don't know why it not posted yesterday, i will ask again.
Can you add please option for copy text from message (poster name, some words etc) ? I know about quite and replay.
Also maybe "edit your post" too if you can ?
Thanks for your work.

Marmistrz has ported the sign-on system from harmattan to fremantle I think, so that could be of help.

Thanks for your feedback. I plan to include copy option soon. For now, use 'quote and reply', then copy from quoted part.

And no guarantee abt editing posts, but I'm trying already.

We have talked on this matter, and it is not possible due to some tracker issues. I'm not too clear on that subject, but he insisted on the fact that this incompatibility can be solved by dealing with tracker. Maybe he could better brief us on this regard. :)

i think you can make built-in login system for N900, not using accounts.

I think it would be better to work on the SSO - one time it's done, and available for hundreds of apps.

So.... Nokia upgraded tracker in Harmattan and it's very common here. Very many apps use QtSparQl. Tracker out there in Fremantle is veeeeeeeery slow - try indexing over 2000 tracks, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I suggested upgrading tracker in the #maemo-ssu irc channel but nobody that time became interested. And the joerg_rw's (DocScrutinizer05) argumentation was contradictory: we don't want newer tracker, because Harmattan overuses tracker. My argument was that we don't need to do everything Harmattan does. By backporting tracker we'll gain surely better efficiency (if something's overused, it can't have crappy efficiency), Harmattan-backporting and compatibility.

Nemo, inheriting much Harmattan stuff, had the sparql use too. their libaccounts-ui was just cleaned from closed-source stuff. They made the main qmlaccounts-ui which is the same as Harmattan's accounts-ui.

It's the best option out there, afaik, as I know no other fully-open source accounts-ui.

We'd have to convince some devs and that tracker is needed. I can port some build-dep, and I hope some other people will be able to do something too. I think, that if the community says "we want newer tracker", the joerg_rw's ultra-conservatism about Maemo packages (he'd probably accept no replacement of stock package) can be overcome. A little testing will be enough to ask for cssu-devel.

A lot has already been done by porting the whole library parts. There are only GUI parts left, which could be ideally reused from Nemo. Alternatively we can totally drop QtSparQl in libaccounts-ui, but isn't it better to use it as a pretext to upgrade tracker?

Re: [WIP] TMO Forum app - New updated release

I agree but I have to note that something is bogging down my N9 horribly after it accumulates a bit of cruft (messages, notes, music etc) and I suspect it's either tracker or smartsearch. As the beast shows up only after some months of use, it easy to slip testing. Just a thing to keep in mind.

Re: [WIP] TMO Forum app - New updated release

Here's another update. Quite some changes. Hopefully I'm understanding the mechanism better everyday. And there might be hopes for PM integration.
@coderus, pls check if custom theme support has improved or not.

About, login system, it's not a priority right now. Maybe when I feel like spending some time on it, I will look into creating a separate branch for maemo sign in. But I don't have a device, and neither experience on it. So, keep your hopes low. :(

coderus 2013-01-09 08:22

it nice now :)

can you focus on message area on posting, not on topic name?

Hello bibek,

Pls add user account info ( likes all posts by user, all posts started by user, etc...). This will make this app much more a full web interface...

@xes I can not run it always bounced into the desktop menu:confused:
:(

Schturman 2013-01-09 11:46

Maybe private messages (read/replay/send) too ?
:D

I still worry about the "space" issue in login form. If you know how to fix plz plz plz do it in next update. Let me use the app w/ full feature.

Suggestion: Share option which will open share window with current thread name and link.

khan.orak 2013-01-09 11:53

The "Jump to Page" feature is an excellent addition.
thanks Anand

Jump to first unread post is excellent too when browsing threads not in Active Topics :)

He's done a brilliant job indeed!

Re: [WIP] TMO Forum app - New updated release

Bibek, can you add a toggle which says: "always jump to the last unread post of the topic"

Would be nice to have this, because now I have to do this everytime I want to read a topic that I (actively) follow.

You can do vice-versa if the option "always jump to the last unread post of the topic" is enabled, and once you hold down a topic, it will show: "Go to the first post".

Artyom 2013-01-09 14:58

Thanks for the great app. Works awesome.

bibek 2013-01-09 15:37

Yes, thread opening style is a where I will look into in next release. Certainly needs some improvement. Sometimes the app crashes, when opening to last post.

also, need to check out the space in username issue, as reported by Ajmal. But I fear it might be a limitation of system Accounts manager.
Can someone confirm?

And PM, that's something even I look forward to. Means adding almost 30% more of the present code. But certainly an interesting challenge :)

bibek 2013-01-09 15:39

Can someone confirm what are the thread opening modes that tmo support?

First post?
Last post?
First unread? (first new is same thing?)

kai_en 2013-01-09 16:28

I see that u removed the “button” pressed like visual on each of the message card. It's a good move as the action tended to become unbearable visually to the eye when the page photo heavy and causing dizziness.

thanks for the good

yes, I still want to give some visual feedback on press, but scaling isn't visually attractive for long lists. Made me really dizzy. I'm open to new ideas on this part.

also, funny thing is that, if I use a resource hungry webpage to display msg cards, scrolling is smooth, but if I use minimal resource using text component to display the msgs, then it stutters sometimes.
Quite trolling..

Seconded. I'd claim "Opening the last unread post" is what most people most of the time want to do, and so should be the default. Who enjoys reading old posts except occasionally :) ?

This was my biggest gripe with the old version.

This would be great. But the "Jump to Page" shouldn't be removed.

Agree. Already on it.

If you really want give some visual feedback on press, why not darken the BG around the post "bubbles" (where it shows "page x of y")? Just an idea. I don't really think you need to show feedback, maybe add a setting?

@bibek Mate, this app is superb, I had installed the original about 6 months ago but it was a mess - this is now totally useable and works just fine. Thanks so much for your hard work! :-)

It's a creative idea that you built up a TMO app. Thanks for your work!

I'd wish to see a Maemo app in the google play store. Many users that moved to the android world still follow this powerful community; so an android app would be lovely.

Any idea if that is possible?

0.1.4 bug: "open web page" points to a local folder/file obtaining a 404 ....and forum-qml closes itsels.

one feature request: one day or another, one button "bookmark this thread" will be useful. ;)

I'm taking a look into the log, and in case you were using some other theme in tmo, switch it to default theme. It's a known bug

Yup, from inside the post, it's broken. From thread list, it works. Will check it.

And wud you prefer bookmarks or subscription folder selecting?

thanks for developing this app further. When you will release a version for N900 ? We N900 users also need a forum reader for our beloved device.

There's a way to get it running on N900 somehow, look in earlier pages.

bibek 2013-01-10 04:32

@damagedspline, ur login shows everything right. Smhow the posts are not parsed, maybe due to custom forum theme. (not app theme. Check forum theme to default)

slarti 2013-01-10 09:50

Great job with this. I had to post this using the app just to test that, too.

Couple of requests:

As I couldn't search this thread to see if this has been mentioned, I'd like a search this thread tool ;).

When using the dark theme the dark blue font color in links is probably not the best choice. A lighter color would be more legible.

Thanks a lot for your work!
