Possibly? ;)

But let's continue this here.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v52 in Extras-Devel

when doing
Code:

apt-cache showpkg kernel-power-bootimg
the latests version i get is 51r1
which is incidentally also the version i'm running.

but i can't seem to get a hold of pk52
any idea?

starting from the URL in my repository list (for extras-dev) i get to a directory where power52 is listed alright.

@misterc - change the distribution from "fremantle-1.3" to "fremantle" for all maemo repos. Unfortunately repos are still messy :(

Yes, they are. As the web interfaces also.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v52 in Extras-Devel

well, removing the -1.3 part indeed helped
i promptly got 8 updates (12 after dependencies check) & am now running kp52 :D
was wondering since beginning of the year why i didn't get any updates anymore :p:o:rolleyes:
thanks Freemangordon!

however, before i saw your reply, i started messing around with apt-#$%&€ (or however you feel towards apt-...) and run
Code:

apt-cache unmet
which returned me a 200KB (!) worth of unmet suggest & recommends,
obviously nothing Fremantle can't run without, but, still, felt i could maybe try & look into that

alas, apt-config on Maemo does not support
Code:

apt-config -o APT::Install-Recommends="1"
apt-config -o APT::Install-Suggests="1"

did i miss something (obviously, i'm from a RPM world) or is this not possible, indeed
if so, where is the apt.conf file that i may edit
Code:

find / -iname apt.conf
returned a blank :(

that is, provided that the command(s) support all the functionality

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v52 in Extras-Devel

Dear all,

I have a similar problem to the one that peterleichnen has raised:

I have installed kernel-power-bootimg ver. 52 with uboot, but when I try to install kernel-power-settings with apt-get, I get

Code:

~ $ sudo apt-get install kernel-power-settings
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  kernel-bfs-bootimg kernel-bfs-modules kernel-power-flasher
Recommended packages:
  multiboot kernel-bfs-flasher usbip iptables mtd-utils kexec-tools
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  kernel-bfs-bootimg kernel-bfs-modules kernel-power-flasher
  kernel-power-settings
0 upgraded, 4 newly installed, 0 to remove and 2 not upgraded.
Need to get 5428kB of archives.
After this operation, 11,3MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? n
Abort.

Which tells me that other 3 packages have to be installed to meet the required dependencies. Thus, I had a look to dependencies with apt-cache:

Code:

~ $ apt-cache showpkg kernel-power-settings
Package: kernel-power-settings
Versions:
0.17 (/var/lib/apt/lists/repository.maemo.org_extras-devel_dists_fremantle_free_binary-armel_Packages)
...
Dependencies:
0.17 - kernel-feature-overclock (0 (null)) kernel-feature-smartreflex (0 (null)) sudo (0 (null))

...

which tells me that kernel-power-settings needs kernel-feature-overclock, but investigating furthermore the dependencies of kernel-power with:

Code:

~ $ apt-cache showpkg kernel-power
Package: kernel-power

I have seen that kernel-power does not provide kernel-feature-overclock.

The same thing applies when I had a look to the dependencies of kernel-power-bootimg with:

Code:

/opt/var/cache/apt/archives $ apt-cache showpkg kernel-power-bootimg
Package: kernel-power-bootimg
Versions:
1:2.6.28-10power52 (/var/lib/apt/lists/repository.maemo.org_extras-devel_dists_fremantle_free_binary-armel_Packages) (/var/lib/dpkg/status)

...

which tells me that neither kernel-power-bootimg version 1:2.6.28-10power52 provides kernel-feature-overclock, not ver. 1:2.6.28-10power52.

kernel-feature-overclock is instead provided by kernel-power-flasher, kernel-bfs-bootimg, and kernel-power-bootimg ver. 1:2.6.28-10power51r1.

For the just mentioned reasons, is it possible that a little problem with dependencies has been introduced with kernel-power-bootimg ver. 1:2.6.28-10power52?

Thanks in advance for your great efforts.

Cordially,
pkz

Something weird going on here ?

I just wanted to grab kp52 (bootimg) packages from repo, but I get this (missing dependencies) on this page
http://maemo.org/packages/package_in....28-10power52/ (see first pic)
Attachment 31711
and this (kp52 not listed) on this page
http://maemo.org/packages/view/kernel-power-bootimg/ (see second pic).
Attachment 31712

But apt-get tells me everything is good?

For sure I may fetch them from your repo, but would like to know what is gooing on here?

Hi guys,

My case is different as I can't even find the v52 and usbhost anywhere in the repositories.

Also, before I flashed my phone, whenever I tried to connect to the usbmode|>hostmode with boost, it tells me, Error: Charger connected, disconnect charger first. Please assist.

Regards,
Freddie.

Hi Dear friends! Can anybody explain me step by step. How can i load packet injection shell script? I have red instruction properly, but still don't know how I make work cleven with packet injection. My skype wowdik! I will wait your help!

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v52 in Extras-Devel

For loading packet injection driver, download script and run as root:
Code:

$ sh packet-injection.sh load
For unloading run:
Code:

$ sh packet-injection.sh unload
If you want to use it in some application, ask how to do it in thread which is for that application.

Leave the script (but the link is working "no problemo") look for applet to load and unload the drivers, here on TMO. Great stuff, handy. You just need to point the location of the drivers, and that's it. Relax man, take Your time, it supposed to be good fun. Remember not to hurt other people feelings :D

While waiting for the next minor release of kernel power with dependencies problems solved, I managed to install kernel-power-settings as follows:

Code:

sudo apt-get -d install kernel-power-settings
cd /var/cache/apt/archives
sudo dpkg --force-depends -i kernel-power-settings_0.17_armel.deb
sudo kernel-config load dsp
sudo kernel-config default dsp

where the two last steps can be changed "ad libitum" with the desired profile... Of course when You want to upgrade something You should be awake enough to avoid useless installations of bfs kernel stuffs, and of the useless kernel-power-flasher (useless for those who uses the great uboot)...

In any case, may I serve somehow to correct the above mentioned dependency problems?

pkz

PS: in this situation, with unmet dependencies, the only way to add/remove/upgrade packages is using HAM. FAM fails and apt-get too...

Hello!
Have problem with booting. May be it connected with new CSSU, may be with KP:
If I starting device from power-button - i see white screen Nokia & after that - device shutdown. This repeated 1-5 time & after that device started normal.
Alarm not worked when device were shut down.
Writed about this bug in testing forum. And I’m not alone.
Help me, please?

Use kp52(without multiboot) + CSSU-testing 8.2. + thumb1(installed it yesterday - problem didn’t dissapear)

Hey, stop repeating that. Following this logic, flasher-3.5 is "bad software damaging nand memory", too.

multiboot idea is to transparently flash new kernel, everytime you choose to do so from start-up menu - saving you need to use flasher-3.5 for all such cases, allowing to do so on the go, etc.

It wears NAND *equally* the same as using flasher3.5 by hand, for every kernel change, and honestly, there are 0 (zero) reports, of anyone hitting NAND wear limits by using either flasher-3.5, or multiboot.

Of course, u-boot is *much* better idea and way of achieving running different kernels - but it is not good enough reason to depreciate multiboot, which was present and used *much* longer before u-boot got available for our device.

/Estel

// Edit
Don't take personal offence (Pali) - it's just that it's 4th or 5th time I see you repeating mantra about "multiboot being bad software damaging NAND", so decided to give a matter at least little just.

Again, u-boot is much better way and I'm eternally grateful to you, for bringing it to us. You've also made a "tactical" step to drop multiboot support from kernel-power (which could support multiboot *and* u-boot flawlessly, from technical point of view) in favor of U-boot, to pro-actively encourage people to switch into U-boot.

Good decision and thinking - u-boot is better. But, it isn't fair to religiously depreciate multiboot (and by extension, it's creators), as "bad software". It was as good software as we could have for that purpose (faster, on-the-go flashing of different kernel) for the time, until better solutions arrived - nothing more, nothing less.

peterleinchen 2013-07-18 17:00

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v52 in Extras-Devel

Hey pali,
I think I need to second that.
Multiboot is as bad as flasher, yes.

I also still have it on device, but do use your u-boot (BIG thanks).
I knew about its "problem" from very first time I flashed kernel with it. And did so only occasionally.

So could you elaborate on this (we all know of flash, NAND, lifecycle) or do you have any other reasons?

For sure the non-support in kp52 package is your (good) decision and absolutely understandable/accepted.
At least for those daily Nitdroid/Maemo switchers.

I also like to thank you again and never ever want to offend you. :)

Ok this is a short guide for more andvanced users:
1. Download Nitdroid 2.3.4 N12_Umay and install it on ext3/ext4 partition (mmcblk1p2) - for ext4 kernel support use the second link!
2. Your first sd card partition should be FAT (for ext2/ext3 and etc will explain tomorrow)
3. Install U-boot by Pali - [url]http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=81613[/url]
4. Download nitdroid rc7 kernel and extract the file - then go to /system/lib/modules/2.6.28.NIT.07/  and copy all the files to  /system/lib/modules/current in NITDROID partition (mmcblk1p2)
4.1. Replace init.nokia.rc with mine
5. Now download boot.scr from attachments and copy it to the first partition (FAT)
6. Dowload uImage and copy it to the same place as boot.scr
7. Insert sd card in n900 and power on with opened keeyboard
8. Stop u-boot counting and enter U-boot console
9. Write - run sdboot... and watch booting

Bluetooth, Wi-fi, charging, hardware acceleration, lights and other things NOW working!!!  Just replace init_subsys in /system/maemo/bin

P.S. If using boot.scr from the archive below it will stop for 10 seconds to wait for rootfs to be mounted! If these steps are not convenient for you read the text below to find out how to configure your own boot.scr

Credits: E-yes (For help and Nitdroid), Pali (for help and U-boot), Marex_ (at #u-boot at freenode) for help and Vakkov for making it possible. and everybody else who i have forgot about.

Kernel only(with ext4 support): [url]http://www.mediafire.com/?0v7ed0jzp6zcqb0[/url]

- I want to boot Nitdroid from a partition different from mmcblk1p2 (second partiton of sd card). How to do it?
- Here is how to:
nit.src is the "source" file of boot.src. You can open it with a text editor and see its contents
Change "root=/dev/mmcblk1p2" to your desired partition (where Nitdroid is stored) - for example /dev/mmcblk0p2 (that's eMMC).
rootdelay=10 is the time in seconds to wait for the rootfs to be mounted before continuing with loading the kernel. You can set it to 1 if you want or you can replace the whole rootdelay parameter with rootwait (it will wait for the file system to mount and then continue). FOR EXT4 USE THE KERNEL FROM THE SECOND LINK!

- I want to place the kernel (uImage) wherever I want. How to do it?
Go on the second line of nit.scr (starts with setenv bootcmd) i Used fatload mmc 1:1 This means it will search for the uImage at the first partition of the sd card and that partition has to be a FAT one.
The format of this can be:
Code: [Select]
fatload mmc <device>:<partition number> 0x82000000 <filepath/file>
ext2load mmc <device>:<partition number> 0x82000000 <filepath/file>So if you want to use an ext2/ext3 partition to store the kernel use ext2load (yes, it's also loading ext3)

Generating boot.scr
When you finish editing nit.scr to your desired settings save it and run in terminal:
Code: [Select]
mkimage -A arm -O linux -T script -C none -a 0 -e 0 -n "NITDroid" -d nit.scr boot.scrThis will generate a valid boot.scr which you have to copy to the FIRST partition of sd card or to boot.scr

New init.nokia.rc and camd - Camera FIXED! Works on N12_UMay (2.3.4) with 2.3.7 camera libs, should also work on 2.3.7
P.s. Replace camd in system/maemo/bin (where init_subsys is stored)

Soon - bootmenu guide!

* init.nokia.rc (7.86 kB - downloaded 1548 times.)
* camd (0.21 kB - downloaded 1535 times.)

Exactly what I noticed (just switched to kp52 a few says ago).

Could you please give output of
Code:

top
in x-term (did not reveal anything to me) and also -if powertop installed-
Code:

sudo powertop >out; sleep 5; sudo powertop >> out; sleep 5; sudo powertop >> out
with device in idle mode and keyboard/screen closed? Attach the file 'out' here (looked normal to me, except around 1500 wakeups from kernel tick and device did not enter C4 state).

Solution:
Please try the following.
shut down
pull battery
press power button for 3 seconds (or a bit longer)
insert battery
start up

This solved it for me. And it was not the first time, already noticed that at least one maybe two times before after upgrading kp.

So if this is confirmed by another guy and my procedure to be the solution, maybe it is worth to mention in first post(s) of kp thread(s), pali?

Your N900 should immediately illuminate itself and fly high up to the sky. It will return to you like a boomerang and bring with it a lot of fun and knowledge ...

Just joking :)
But what do you think what I experienced to give you that solution?

How is your experience right now?

Thanks my friend for your advice
I had the experience and it wasn't please
Battery drain faster than I had expected lasting for one day only and it shuts down- getting some heat

when I checked the health check cpu menu only the min 500 and max 850 and no less than those speed

So i relfashed the kernel back to normal stock and thanks God it is working perfect and lasting long

Only the issue is the camera is not working and not saving

Kernel is not ready yet to be installed in our devices until they figure out how to maintain the heat and battery drain

I've had an issue similar to yours, namely seeing increased battery drain.

Never found the culprit.

But I reflashed, installed latest KP and CSSU plus apps I really needed and now it uses even less battery than stock.

Running [500,850] or [500,900] - the overclocking doesn't hit the battery.

Trust me, something else is causing your problem, not this kernel.

New version of package fiasco-image-update-ask is in extras-testing. Please vote for promoting this package to extras. Package is needed for kernel-power and u-boot to ask if you really want to change kernel version when installing u-boot or any kernel package

And kernel-power-settings 0.17 is finally in extras-testing. Please vote for it:

thanks alot my friend and hope will get better but for me I have returned it to stock kernel cause it 's himreging the battery so batter as I have just charged it full and after 3 hours it starts showing low battery even thaugh am not using it just checking the battery condition

minimum speed was 125 and max was 600 and till now didn't understand why it was draining the battery soooooooooooo quickely

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v52 in Extras-Devel

One more thing I have to add is that after returning to stock kernel it is working fine and even the battery consumption not that much which means that it lasts long.

But when I have tried to use my bluetooth.... it won't work or connenct to a handset bluetooth or receiving any pictures or videos

only sending is ok and detecting other devices wroks fine but

receiving from other devices fails so what do you think folk!!!!
