So, literally full-blown Sailfish, nothing missing?

If Carsten (stskeeps) or someone else is able to answer the 2 Qns above, that'd be great.
We really do need a solution for Alien Dalvik soon, that issue has had a big Qn mark for too long.

Check https://together.jolla.com/question/...ins-next-week/. From the post:

We are proud to tell that we’ve reached a new milestone in the development of bringing the Sailfish OS experience to Android devices.
The product will be officially called the ‘Jolla Launcher’, and our invitation based Alpha phase testing will start next week.

and

The Alpha testing phase is targeted mainly for Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 devices.
The Jolla Launcher Alpha can also be installed on many other devices running Android 4.3 or later.

Not sure about the "shockingly innovative" part, but so much for those who keep shrilling that Nokia will eventually get back tight with Jolla, looking even less likely.

Not too look a given horse in the mouth, but.. will Android support be included in the Sailfish image for Nexus 4/5?
Or does it need to be hacked in later?

So on Monday you'll have a full/official announcement, with all Qns answered (1 e.g. = Alien Dalvik support), + the hw dev kit?

Nice. Can you comment on what, in your view, works well and what doesn't. Also, as a side note, is it good practice to you show your imei number?

hehe no, not good karme ;) Not that I really care, but ....

I will post my experiences in a bit :)
It seems smooth so far.

EDIT: WLAN and Sound does work, when coming from clean 4.2.2 -> CM 10.1.3 -> Sailfish

First impression compared to the 1.0.4.x image. Keyboard is nicer (not unusable small characters like it was then)

Apps working as expected.

Still no Alien-Dalvik (Google apps)

Now, to 'upgrade' to 1.0.7.18

Dave999 2014-06-20 17:10

Re: Porting Sailfish to Android Devices

Calls, SMS, Mail and browser works? (Except with WLAN and sound)

Does it matter what CM you are using as long as it built from 4.3?

nieldk 2014-06-20 17:24

Re: Porting Sailfish to Android Devices

You need to
install stock 4.2.2 (JDQ39)
flash clockworkmod recovery
Fact. reset
Flash cm 10.1.3 fro Recovery
Flash Sailfish Image from Recovery

Yes, everything works, call, sms, wlan, mobile network.
In 1.0.7.18 the ambience image (background image)is off to the left - this was not the case with 1.0.7.16
Testing some more now

Not able to enable "untrusted software install"

Camera not working

Yeah, I confirm this issue, it was also present in v1.0.5.16 on Nexus 4. So "$ pkcon install-local <filename.rpm>" is the solution.

I see no difference between Sailfish 1.0.7.16 and 1.0.5.16 with respect to Nexus 4 hardware adaptation : with no camera, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC and sensors (i.e., no automatic screen rotation).

But v1.0.7.16 on Nexus :
- seems more stable (the problem pressing Power to wake-up not working is gone, I think);
- has a first start-up screen asking the user to enter name, phone number, email, etc (I think it is for the beta testing of Sailfish Early Adopter Release for Android devices);
- has Jolla Store working without workaround;
- has no watermark underneath the UI with "SailfishOS development software";
- video is working, but no MP3 music playing (lack of codec);
- seems to spend 1% of battery for each 2 hours of usage (without SIM card, WiFi on, light use). Better than 2-3 days v1.0.5.16 and SIM card usage (calls, 3G). To be better tested.
- folders of apps work very well.

Thanks, Jolla sailors, for Sailfish v1.0.7.16 and its adaptation for Nexus 4.

Great that watermark made cracy. Such a cheap act to add it. Finallly removed :D

While we are at it. I don't see why this shouldn't work for other devices as well. Will jolla use nexus 4 or 5 as reference device? Anyone tried on nexus 7

Hi guys, does anyone know if I will get a look in with my Samsung Galaxy S2 for Jolla Launcher beta testing??
I've had the stable 10.1.3 running as well without problem, so I'm assuming that as my SGS2 runs 10.1.3 that it should be able to run Sailfish too?, or will I still need to be coming from Android 4.2 to start with?
Regards,

Re: Porting Sailfish to Android Devices

In theory, it should be easier to support a wider array of devices for "Sailfish Android Launcher" compared to "Sailfish for Android Hw". Wait till they make their official announcements.

Regards,

SGS2 isn't in the pipeline, see this table of Sailfish Adaptation for Android devices :
https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Adaptations/libhybris

Jolla will release the Hardware Adaptation Development Kit, so any community user will have the tools to port Sailfish to SGS2, etc.

Although personally if it were me, I'd be far more interested in the latter...
