Sunday would be a good time for all those business people to not be distracted / cut off by the update of their mobile phone during office hours ;)

You never know. With the Motorola Razr smartphone, people were like "oh, they're not gonna give us the promised Android update around Christmas 2012 because of the holidays". And guess what: they did roll out the update on December 27th.

Conclusion: companies are full of surprises, so you never know what might happen on days you don't expect something to happen :)

There were utterings on `Review Jolla` (a facebook page) where it was claimed that the 29th may be be launch day for update 9.

https://www.facebook.com/reviewjolla - look for the 2nd comment posted on the 23rd Sept'14.

Yes, well it has to be Monday or Tuesday to meet their "definitely this month" promise.

Rest assured, we are committed to bring this release out during this month.

Thanking you for your patience,

I would take that as confirmation. It would be nice.

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

Problem is that several security holes and patches (shellshock and others) are now in board for update 9, and it was not taken into consideration when proposing 29 September (as earliest).
Those patches MAY delay the update further if they found additional issues related to them... Let's hope not ;)
Personally I will start to 'worry' only at the end of the week

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

I'll start worrying when the update is pushed to today, because the crowd wants it badly, and it's not ok. Rather a good update then a crappy one. But I trust Jolla they'd rather deliver quality instead of quantity.

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

I do not see any question in TJC marked with "sep14" tag yet, which had always been the case prior every update. So we definitely will have to wait a bit longer - 2nd week of October seems viable to me.

Not really, sort of.
Jul14 was only created after the update and only one post was tagged with it, the update itself.
But yeah every other update had a month tag usually a week or two before the release

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

Well, it gets released when it's ready. ;)
So, apparently it's not ready yet. Do you want to have an update that was not ready brick your phone, just to keep a fixed release date? :)

pagis 2014-09-29 17:45

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

the problem is not the delayed release itself, it's the silence, oh well we still have one day more for the 1.0.9 or it should be renamed to 1.0.10?

Exactly so.

"we have decided to combine the updates 9 and 10. It will be truly something. Just be patient for some weeks :) Sorry for any inconvenience. -J"

I'd put my money on that :)

Well it's 8,9 &10 to be more accurate. So what is the bet for release date. I'm going for 24th October.

Eh? I am on 1.0.8.19. Or is it a different 8 that you are talking about?

An update will come when it will come. I do not understand why anyone would get so worked out about it.

While waiting for the update, someone could code that call recorder ?

Thanks.

1. Because my Jolla is not working correctly
2. Because I bought into the marketing promise at the outset
3. Because it is just another failed promise
4. Because comms through Jolla channels is terrible

Other than that I am pretty ambivalent now. It comes when it comes and my Jolla will sit patiently in a drawer.:(

Actually looking at the release schedule this one is 9, 10 and 11 as July release took the August date number.;)

You can read only microphone data and speaker output, not phone mixer. dpurgin's harbour-callrecorder is dead, unfortunately. Goodbye @catbus also, but would you be interested in selling your device with discount to someone interested in Jolla?

So it seems that Younited client for Jolla will be an android app. That's rather disappointing

interesting discussion while waiting for 1.0.[9-10].x release, however, I cannot understand how we can go deep down to details discussing libhybrid limitations and at the same time want a fully featured phone, or goodbye jolla!

Wait... Android? I bought Jolla because I've been told it runs Linux. Now you are telling me that it is actually an Android device in disguise? I have never installed the Android support and was delaying it for as long as possible. Does the above mean that it does not matter anyway and I may as well install it right now?

One could say that its a security feature that no application can listen in, but security 'feature' is just a side effect.
That takes some spin to call it a "security" feature. So not being able to record my calls makes me more secure. Hmm...

(Sorry about OT but, as this whole thread is pointless anyway... :))

vistaus 2014-09-30 11:05

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

Android adaption = libhybris, not the full Android. So don't worry.

Not being able to record calls is a security feature yes. Because one could secretly implement such thing in their app and listen to your phone calls without you knowing it. And if that someone were to record that all secretly, then they'd have your phone calls to use against you. Bye-bye privacy.

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

@pichlo, see it like nvidia binary drivers for linux, there is no other alternative but using lower lever android drivers to support new chipsets, or use ancient for today h/w.

That's such a disappointment. So WHY we have to wait such a long time and just get an other android app? I thought there already is an android app for younited?!

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

I dont know if there's an Android app for Younited or if it would work on the Jolla phone. But I do know that I used an Android app by Vodafone to sync my media to the cloud. Nice thing was that all of a sudden it decided not to recognize new files any more. All images, music, videos added after a certain date don't show up and never get synced. I have a very similar issue with another Android app that simply doesn't see all the filees it should see. - So I simply don't trust an Android app to do a backup for me. I'm not sure it'll work reliably. (More precise: I'm sure it won't work in the long run.)

I'm using the OneDrive Android app for more than 6 months now to backup my stuff (mainly my photos), hasn't ever failed me.

So... Uitukka won't be available today or..?
And the Younited app is not a native Sailfish app... Not good.

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

Younited to come to Sailfish as an Android app? Hopefully this is not true. I mean, they dedicated a whole press release for Younited stating it will available for Jolla users. If that meant "Jolla Android app users", I'm disappointed. I don't have Android runtime installed.

EDIT: OK, read that twitter link. Younited for Jolla was not worth the wait for me.

Jolla really should put more emphasis on getting native applications to market. First thing that comes to my mind is the support for paid apps in Harbour.

I don't see any official statement on that, only that someone from YouNited said "Indeed it is". But he may very well be teasing us for all we know. Unless F-Secure gives an official statement about the app being an Android app or that guy giving an official statement, there's no way one should believe a vague confirmation on Twitter.

And the second thing is to allow enough libraries so that Harbour apps can do something useful and use the full potential of the device. :)
