Re: Sailfish OS on Fairphone 2

I tried the alpha2 image (Sailfish 2.0.1.11) on my FP2, its amazing!
The alpha1 was absolutely useful, but alpha2 is again a bit better. Fairphone 2 feels like a very fast Jolla Phone with FullHD DIsplay.

Lets hope we get official image with 2.0.2.xx and DualSIM-Support.

Personally, i can live withou alien-dalvik and exchange, i also have a Jolla Tablet. :-)
But it would be good to have an OPTION to install aliendalvik and exchange.

virgi26 didn't posted the link to the alpha2-image, but sent me a link over email. so i will also don't post it here.

if someone need it - please PM me or send me an email:

mal said on irc that the latest image still had uncomfortable bugs, so that's why no public release available.

personally, i didn't encounter any ground breaking bugs. Don't know why it's not publicly available.

Few annoying bugs:
1) some issues with brightness (minimum is just a black screen)
2) if you take a photo in portrait view it is being saved in landscape view

oh, and some third party apps from store are note optimized for fullhd

Bottom line is that after almost a month of using it i didn't have to restart it once. Everything works fast and fluent.

I start to think maybe I should buy a fairphone even if it still don't have aliendalvik. So is it possible run both android and community SFOS on fairphone II without reflash the whole phone?

Re: Sailfish OS on Fairphone 2

I don't think it would run without the reflashing...
But Sailfish with Aliendalvik will definitiv come to FP2. The photos were alredy seen, it is only a question of couple of month....

LOL... The HW is to sexy to stay w/o official Sailfish Version. I think, they wait until 2.0.2.xx becomes official, because of Dual-SIM Support....

How long does the battery last on the current alpha? Is it comparable to Jolla 1?

I'm recharging the FP2 every 2-3 days on average, with moderate usage at best (very few calls, occasionaly web browsing, photos, e-mail, etc).

Jolla 1 battery clearly lasted longer with similar usage patterns, but the FP2 is so much faster there's no going back.

My Jolla battery never lasted longer than FP2

I added aliendalvik Repository from the Jolla C to the FP2.
aliendalvik and all dependencies were installed without any problems.
Android Settings are now in the Settings, but if i start Android Support, it closes after 2 sec.
I think, it need additional tweeking.
Is here somebody, who knows, how to f*ck with aliendalvik ? ;-)

I would give additional info, if needed....

Re: Sailfish OS on Fairphone 2

Using the FP2 as a daily driver for about 1 week now.
All i can say is: WOW!
When you compare it with Jolla 1 it is like you replace a bike with a car :-)

I connected all the Jolla C Repos, Maps, Store, Exchange, XT9 works very well and stable. Alien Dalvik is installed but didn't work (not yet). Need additional tweaking.

FP2 is such a sexy piece of Hardware, it will be definitive the next Sailfish Flagship.
I'm sure Fairphone will releace official Sailfish with Aliendalvik, they wait until the Build became ready and support anything (Dual-SIM, OTA-Updates etc.)
They would get a lot of new customers, when they release it with official Sailfish OS.

We see how much people are ready to pay hunderts of $ / EUR to get an Device with official Sailfish. Doesn't matter, if it is a Jolla Tablet, Jolla C or Intex Aqua Fish.
The Jolla 1 in good condition going through eBay for 100-130 EUR!

For me - there is definitiv no way back to Jolla 1 after Fairphone 2. Missing Android support is something importand, but i can live without it atm. (Have a Jolla Tablet, also)

Yeah, I confirm everything above. Just flashed FP2 OTA to 2.0.2.48 thanks to mal-, and all is mostly good for daily work. But have to admit I also carry the Jolla 1 around for Android functionality, and also a separate dedicated hotspot data plan.

Hop on #fairphone-sailfish.

You will need to enable a couple of mal-'s personal repos, which you can find from either irclogs of the channel or by asking him.

In general the process follows this model https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Ada...ates_.28OTA.29 but the repo list with `ssu lr` needs to be correct before you run `version --dup`

explit 2016-08-03 21:17

Re: Sailfish OS on Fairphone 2

alpha2 has a couple of small bugs, so mal- didn't released it (yet) officially.
But of course you can ask him on irc and he will tell you what to do - if you REALLY-REALLY want to test alpha2 Image. You also need to reflash, bacause alpha2 need android gms54 1.36 or newer. afterwards you can flash alpha2 (2.0.1.11) and afterwards, when you are on alpha2, you can ask mal- for the right repositories to update to 2.0.2.48.

mal- is the main FP2-Sailfish developer, so you need to ask him, if you want to test something newer than alpha1 or wait until mal- will release it officialy on the Wiki-Page.

Thanks, looks like that'll keep me busy tomorrow evening!

Could you list your repos please? (zypper lr)

Any idea when a new flashable release will be released?

Any significant changes you've noticed specific to FP2 with the new SFOS version, or "just" the standard things?

EDIT: Thanks explit I'll probably wait until it's released officially, I use it as my main phone and don't fancy completely reflashing more than once. I'm excited now though!

Hmmm are you saying we may actually get unofficial Dalvik working or is it just hope?

Because I start reconsider buy fairphone if that happens. I just need to get bankid working == dalvik desperatly needed.

Just realized the community is "spamming" jolla and fairhphone about this very much(me included) maybe we should get the damn myriad involved too.

I don't get why on earth this has still not happened what is the route cause? Incombability with different linux kernel versions?

Well, i'm not a developer. I only said, that i was able to install all for Alien Dalvik needed files on the FP2 from the Jolla C aliendalvik repos.

There were alredy pics leaked in Web showing FP2 with installed android apps.

https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2JCe-ZHHN...%2BJollaES.jpg

So i think, alien dalvik is possible. But i wouldn't make it run allone.
It needs tweaking. and hacking. FP2 has 3.4.0 Kernel, Jolla Tablet and Jolla C has 3.10 Kernel.

This might be the case, why it doesn't run OOB.

I think, after 2.0.2.xx is coming out for the FP2 by the community - Fairphone will realease an official Version with alien dalvik.. IMHO

If we have some android / alien dalvik Developer / hacker here at tmo. (I think we have :-)) - please help us to get the damn Alien Dalvik to run on the FP2.

I from my side will do anything i can to get it running.

AT the moment, you can only buy Fairphone 2 with Android and flash the community edition of Sailfish on it.

You can get it from here:
