Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus 5 CM12.1 Alpha1 | Sfdroid Pre-Alpha/Early Preview

After many tries to update i'll give up until the dbus issue is fixed. I'm on 2.0.0.10 now and encountered two problems.

1. I can't send any sms messages, after sending it gives an error that the message could not be sent and when i retry it stays at sending and the message does not arrive the receiver.

2. The touchscreen is often not responding anymore after taking or making a call so i have to reboot the phone, to get the touchscreen back working again.

That makes the Nexus unusable for me at the moment, does anyone have any suggestions?

Everything else is working fine and the phone feels much better than the Jolla1. A big thank you to the porters!

EDIT: SMS Mesage do work, i tried to send an SMS to someone who is in another country, maybe i disabled something thats preventing me to send to other countries, i'll investigate this.

EDIT2: Ok, found the problem, the contact number was missing the country code. Problem solved, stupid me ;)

That was on one of the CM12-based builds some 3 weeks ago. You may have already adressed the issue meanwhile or it may still exist (?)

I just wiped and checked with the current zips. The problem still persists.

Any chance, that we see SFDroid on Fairphone 2?

After a few days since my many upgrade attempts it suddenly came to my mind, that i had the adaptation0 repo disabled while doing the upgrade. SO all the dhammerhead droid packages got removed during the update and made the device unbootable.

So, the last attempt was fine and I'm on 2.0.2.48 now. :)

EDIT:

Does anyone have a solution for the lipstick crash when calling or receiving a call? Nearly every time i get called or call someone, the touchscreen isn't working anymore and top shows a high cpu utilization of lipstick. After restarting lipstick everything is back to normal. This can get very annoying if you have to restart your phone nearly everytime you use the phone function and you can't ssh into it afterwards.

I've been attempting a fresh install via multirom to test sfdroid, but I'm having issues getting it to boot even without sfdroid. I'll edit in the multirom logs as soon as I can get them.

This sounds a lot like the rockpoold bug!
You don't have by any chance a pebble connected, do you?

No, i don't own a pebble. The freeze does not occur on every call. I didn't had a freeze in the last two days, but sometimes this happens after every call. Can get quite annoying if you need to reboot the phone every few minutes. But maybe i found a workaround i can live with. I'll test it on the next freeze.

Odd, since I have been able to use Jolla Store since I installed my Nexus5 two weeks ago...?

/// edit ///

Well granted, it is fairly limited set since the store only contains 16 applications when I login with nexus5... :confused:
However I am able to install any apps I have ever installed to sbj1 from the store, I just need to do that via pkcon/zypper :D

*snip*

I was refering to RealJohnGalt stating the Sailors are working on full access for nexus5 and other devices some pages back ;)

Limitied access was always possible since i flashed.
But now the store shows all the goodies!

Yes I did. I think I figured it out. It seems multirom doesn't like the ROM I'm using as primary. I'll swap it out for stock and then it should work.

Lately this showed up on my OnePlus X as well. I believe it is related to 2.0.3.x and the Low Power Screen. Disabling LPS makes it freeze once every other day (for me).

Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus 5 CM12.1 Alpha1 | Sfdroid Pre-Alpha/Early Preview

I use the Nexus 5 for as 'daily runner' for about 3 weeks now. All in all I am pretty happy with the results. I use the proposed CM12.1 image and Sailfishos 2.0.1.11 Taalojärvi on multirom, as described on page one of this thread.

- phone calls are working very well (besides the known problem with phone calls over bluetooth)
- bluetooth audio works well in my car and with my headset (including pause/play prev/forward buttons)
- 4G is working very well with my provider
- send/receive SMS/MMS works without porblems, even with 4G activated (read somewhere that some people have problems with that)
- I miss aGPS, but GPS fix is pretty fast outside (1-2 min.)
- Battery life is let's say 'ok' for normal use. You can make a day out of one charge. If you are a heavy user, this might not be true.
- sfdroid is running surprisingly well, given its Alpha state, although I don't really use it.

On sfdroid I tested:
-Google Earth (working)
-Sound Hound (did not work)
-WPS Office (working)
-A live TV app (did not work)
-some other small apps (all work)

I had some lipstick crashes (probably low memory issues). Even though it sometimes took over a minute (red LED blinking) the phone was able to recover from these states. Thumbs up! Cool to see, that this recover process works.

I do also encounter UI freezes from time to time (once a day seems accurate and NOT during calls). My workaround is the Powermenu2 app in combination with a launcher I created, which basically restarts the lipstick UI. So when the screen is 'on' I can simply 'long press' the power button and lipstick will restart.

Even though I have the mentioned issues, I never had to reboot the phone to solve the problems. That is a huge improvement!

A great 'Shout-out' to this Community!

Lipstick freeze workaround

I do also encounter UI freezes from time to time (once a day seems accurate and NOT during calls). My workaround is the Powermenu2 app in combination with a launcher I created, which basically restarts the lipstick UI. So when the screen is 'on' I can simply 'long press' the power button and lipstick will restart.

Install Powermenu2 from from openrepos.net. 2.0.1.11 Taalojärvi users like me need version 1.0.7-1 (https://openrepos.net/sites/default/...-1.armv7hl.rpm)

I use the nano editor ... ;)
Code:

devel-su pkcon install nano
Create the launcher file
Code:

nano .local/share/applications/liprestart.desktop
Content of liprestart.desktop
Code:

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Run LipRestart
Icon=icon-launcher-component-gallery
Exec=/home/nemo/.local/scripts/liprestart.sh
Comment=Terminal application

Create the 'scripts' directory
Code:

mkdir .local/scripts
Create a file liprestart.sh
Code:

nano .local/scripts/liprestart.sh
Content of liprestart.sh
Code:

#!/bin/bash
systemctl --user restart lipstick

Make it liprestart.sh executable
Code:

chmod +x .local/scripts/liprestart.sh
In the Powermenu2 app, you can now bind 'event3' to the launcher you created and bind the 'long press (display on)' option to 'event3'.

There seems to be an option, but it is bound to the 'reboot icon' of the Powermenu2 menu. I did not find a 'lipstick restart' option to bind to the power button.

@minimec

I'm using the same method as you since a few weeks...seems like we had the same idea :D ...forgot to write about it here, shame on me.
I just added the vibrate option to the restart lipstick event, so that you not accidently shut down your phone.
But sometimes even this method doesn't work anymore, but i can live with that.

Can you provide a logcat log when you try accessing a root-enabled app?, and when trying to enable root in the developer options?

I'll have a look into it but after I've done the other sfdroid thing I'm working on ;)

I think I know why it's not working, I believe we've moved sfdroid from "/system/" to "/usr/libexec/sfdroid/system/", If you can make a note of which files go where via the update-binary file in the SuperSU zip, and then find the appropriate folder under "/usr/libexec/sfdroid/" and move them there then it might work.

EDIT: I think this should be the case for the latest version of sfdroid with CM12.1 base

I'm afraid I've been out of the loop for the past month so am unaware of which version that is, if it's the latest, you should have everything under "/usr/libexec/sfdroid/", can you see if you have init.sfdroid.rc on your device?

I believe TheRealJohnGalt could answer these questions but at the time of writing, he should be sleeping.

UPDATE: It seems the update I'm talking about that changes the Android System folder location hasn't been rolled out yet, and still in development, so once that comes, then try this approach. I might even create a patched supersu zip for you to flash, if it works.
