Yeah I hear yah and mostly agree. However I don't think mainline was the original intent of neo900, it was my understanding that it was only the hardware that is compatible with Maemo 5. The mainline was a possibly once the maemo-leste project got footing.

But splitting hairs at this point :D

I'm starting to rethink my preorder, thinking of canceling it and waiting a few months until the teething issues have been ironed out.

That and my N900 still works fine, it's not like I absolutely need a new phone.

I am on the other side: my 5th N900 is already dying on me with the same old 'all telephony functions disabled' BS!

Would have a last backup but I do not see the future ...

BUT what is the future?
Is it the Pro1 with *Android* or SFOS (or Leste)
Is it Xperia XA2 with SFOS?
Is it Gemini PDA?

I do not know.
Keeping my fun device with JollaC.
But I need now a working unit, I have here:
N900 (best, but too slow, old, small screen)
N9
N950(not really an option)
Jolla 1 (hmm)
Jolla C
XA2Plus (''new'' HW, but SFOS/android not fully working, too bulky)
Gemini PDA (way too bulky, Debian and ofono?)

I really do not know ...
(sorry for noise, offtopic?)

Yep, in a nutshell: there's stuff about the new screen (as Chen mentioned here), some other stuff about the homescreen being tweaked (but since it's about Android, I don't care), some (good ?) work being done on SFOS (yay !), and the german going crazy because they want a QWERTZ keyboard (hell, I'm french and I'm perfectly fine with QWERTY...).

At least it's not glass on the back so it can't be THAT slippery. I never used any kind of those phone condoms but with XZ2 that is a MUST HAVE.

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone

gtmaster303, rubber has alway in my experience ended up as a stick nasty flaky issue down the road. So I happy there is no rubber built into the units.

You are of course welcome to add the many stick type of cover on the back. Which is what I did on my n900 back. Which help a lot.

It doesn't have to be rubber. Soft touch finishes are actually very durable and feel great to hold. Ever held a Nexus One or T-Mobile G-2? Perfect blend of aluminum and grip. Galaxy relay was also very grippy
I stress the importance of grip here because device dimensions. I don't think adding a case is practical because it will also add bulk. Extra grip can ergonomically make a device feel smaller than it is

I was not asking for qwertz in the beginning but what has developed on twitter and in fx forum is pure "standard-loving" awesomeness :)

so, it's almost sure that qwertz layout will come/be available?

What i gather from chens posts is that qwertz users where loud enough to make fxtec think qwerz layout is viable as a very good service to a reasonable amount of users.
From that i think the final decision will be made after fxtec gave an option to change your preorder to qwertz and look at the actual numbers?

Oh, did i mention they changed at least my preorder to include the MotoMod voucher i submitted via their announced form some weeks ago?

Is the launcher going to be open-source, so that we can have it on the LineageOS port?

Fxtec did mention mid-July on Twitter, but things can still change and I won't be mad if delays happen.

Place your bets everyone, what will release first?
  • AMD Zen 2
  • Navi
  • The Pro1

Hope that the LineageOS port would be ready since the beginning so that I have to boot Android (if needed at all) only once to get the system ready for LineageOS flashing. Like I did with my Nexus 6 (cyanogenmode at that time)...

It doesn't curve down the side as much it seems. Which for me mean possibly less screen cracks when dropped.

Old is top new is bottom of the image.

You don't need to use one to be able to read the tweets.

Not if, like me, you've blocked all access to social media in /etc/hosts. Being in the US, my health just can't tolerate exposure to most of it.

But if anyone would like to endure it and occasionally quote some of the updates here, I would be most grateful and definitely click the "Thanks" button. Admittedly, it's a rather small reward for something I could do for myself if weren't so hard-headed about this new-fangled aspect of the internet ;) . . .

I wonder if there's any possibility of an N900-style OtterBox case with a superbezel around the sliding screen. That saved my beloved device more than once. (Thinking about this a lot lately thanks to XperiaX disaster :( )

Not sure what screen protectors would fit this phone, possibly s8? I'm not sure after the change in curve for the display, also not sure if anything happened with that London event that was briefly mentioned once.

The s8... Now because of the screen change I don't think it would fit, or fit more, I can't remember what the edge was like in the s8, but I think it was like the previous display.

EDIT: we have a new updatehttps://pbs.twimg.com/media/D5uO1GtW4AAqlst.jpg the keyboard buttons are slightly more curved (on the left)
