Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

So as some know, I installed the CSSU.
I noticed the feature provided by hildon-status-menu was not present.

So I went to the terminal and noticed that these packages were kept back:

hildon-application-manager hildon-desktop hildon-home hildon-status-menu lisdl-mixer1.2 libvte-common libvte4 modest

and if I tried installing one of those it would always try to remove mp-fremantle-generic-pr (bad thing).

Hints?

Try reinstalling the CSSU? I thought the CSSU was supposed to already replace mp-fremantle-generic-pr with its own equivalent?

two bugs ive noticed:

-when i click on webpage shortcuts on the desktop they open up, but also open an additional generic 'web' window

-power consumption is way up. phone cant make it thru the day and its just sitting idle getting emails and sms messages, i havent done anything all day and its dead in 12 hours

Thanks. Please include whether or not you are using Catorise, MyMenu, ApMeFo or anything similar; what widgets you have installed and whether it is reproducible when the desktop has no widgets on it.

re: my bad battery life, i have MyContacts, TVoutcontrol, FMRDS, FMTX, and a few beecons as widgets. ill try to remove them one by one and see if it makes a difference.

HI... I am not a developer or in any way close to a POWER USER as well... Most of the things i did was based on lots of reading here and the kind supportive help from the people in this community.

If you've just ventured into the N900 extra-devels or testings repos without facing much of a problem, flashing the device is no-problemo, and fixing things via Xterm and things like 'apt-get' or 'sudo' isn't jargon to you, then I would say give it a try then. I did and I don't feel like there's anything too big of a problem happening.

DO take note that there ARE problems. like modest being an issue, some even complain about simple UI things like shortcuts and stuff are problematic (though there's a solution to it via gconf to the hildon key schemas) and things like shortcutd and camkeyd not working (i have no experience of this though).

If you find these risks mentioned above is no barring for 'curiosity' (hehehe... it was for me anyway..)

then go ahead!

but remember! read the disclaimer at the front page! no one is responsible!
