In my opinion the app should integrate into the messaging system so that an additional icon on the home screen shouldn't be necessary.
And besides, the icon doesn't really look good to me. The shine and glow effect is something you'd expect from an iPhone app icon but the icons on N9 are much more simplified. No annoying effects, a background with a light gradient and simple (often solid-colored) glyph.

Well you made me realize that mine was a bit off in proportions :o
Here are some samples that I think are easier on the eyes. ;)
Anyway, I hope the service gets integrated in the messaging app. :)

Re: [WIP] Porting Whatsapp to Meego/Maemo (N9, N900)

It's been a reaaaaally long time since I've participated in this thread (or the previous one).

I just read through about 25 pages of replies, and I'm still wondering:

Is there a source repository (like git or something) where development is going on? I'd pretty much like to participate on this, but there's no source anywhere, or any other information really on what's done and what's not.
Is there any progress on making this a telepathy plugin? A pidgin plugin? Or is this still is testing stage, and just a standalone console app?

Hope someone can point me in the right direction on this; I'd love to help around on this! :)

1. Glyph is misplaced.
2. Background color doesn't match official WhatsApp color.

Here is my final result. I created it according to the N9 Icon Design Guidelines. I used the official WhatsApp media images (the vector logo for the glyph) and used the same proportians and glyph positioning as the iPhone app icon. The background should match the color of the official logo fairly well. An exact match isn't possible because the WhatsApp logo has a different gradient style as the Nokia N9 Iconography specifies.

Why do we want an exact match for Whatsapp official icon? There's no need.
