after you decompress the image file on your computer just copy it directly to the n900, dont try to put it on any folders.. then do a reboot after.. thats it, now run the debian lxde should be working fine now |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
mashah:
Please run the red swirl "Debian chroot" icon. Please post the output here. |

It would be best if you came here with your N900 browser and then copy-and-pasted from the terminal to a post here.

Have you rebooted since you went through all this? That might help to get rid of device busy errors. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
mashah: I must confess that I don't understand what's wrong.
Maybe the "real" error is happening the first time you try to run Easy Debian, and the error you are showing here is what you get on all subsequent attempts. So, please try a reboot like rebhana suggested, and then try the red swirl "Debian chroot" again (don't run any other Debian icons first, like the red diamond). |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
mashah: Try click on CLOSE DEBIAN to correctly close the mounted image file (if any). Then check your .chroot file (/home/user/.chroot) to make sure it is setup correctly. Probably your image path is not correctly setup after unsuccessful installations.

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
thanks all of you for splendid support, got all fixed it started working fine after the restart
openoffice works fine will keep posted if any error is noticed my personal feedback from dummies point of view while decompressing lzme file if you get a call or reminder or by any chance process isl stopped one lands into situation where i was best way is some mechanism to avoid breaking the decompression thanks anyway |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Does anyone know if there are supposed to be issues when running abiword? OpenOffice and gnumeric work fine, but when I run abiword I get a blank screen. strace reveals that abiword is stuck on some lock (futex), and just stays there...

In Diablo, i used this keyboard a lot. Sometimes I need to run kde programs directly from x terminal using debbie <packagename> such as kchmviewer. I have a problem to enter a search string because n900 keyboard does not work for kchmviewer in maemo. Note: I am aware that kchmviewer is available for maemo5 but some of its features are missing plus it cannot open some chm ebooks. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
hi, i clicked on hide panel when not in use and my minimse settings were to low. now my desktop panel on lxde is un accessablle as my mouse pointer can not reach or click the panel. can any one help me to restor the settings. thanks
|
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
asyik: Try the same keyboard hack we use for LXDE for kchmviewer: press the power key and then press the screen outside the power menu, see if the keyboard works then.
new_bee: you will probably have to edit the file: .config/lxpanel/LXDE/panels/panel or .config/lxpanel/LXDE/panels/top |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
i have tried using deb img install to download the debian-m5-v3d.img.ext2.lzma. And at the end of very very long period of download time, it shows download error said the file is damaged, and asked me to download again or keep the damaged file. I tried download the 2nd time, and at the end is the same error message. appreciate if you can help.

qole: That keyboard hack always work if I run kchmviewer from Easy Debian LXDE but not if I run it through terminal. Is it program related?

An alternative to install the image is to download on a PC and transfer the file e.g. through USB. See the wiki. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
I agree with rebhana, try downloading with a PC and then moving the file to your N900. Don't delete the .chroot file, it has important stuff in it.

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
I noticed that Debian has an updated OpenOffice 3.2.0 version for amel: 1:3.2.0-9 with some armel-specific updates ("fix the ARM EABI bridges", whatever that means). I've upgraded to that (with sid enabled) through
Code:
apt-get install openoffice.org-writer openoffice.org-impress openoffice.org-calc openoffice.org-math openoffice.org-style-crystal openoffice.org-style-galaxy openoffice.org-style-hicontrast openoffice.org-style-tango openoffice.org-emailmerge qole, perhaps this would now be a good point in time for v4a? Another suggestion for a new image: include Code:
deb http://security.debian.org/ lenny/updates main contrib non-free |

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

I have followed your example and also installed abiword, as well as the newer version of gnumeric from squeeze, thus upgrading gconf2 in the process. Everything works fine as far as I can see. The only trouble I had was that the top panel in LXDE needed to be restored, but I don't know whether that had anything to do with the upgrade, since lxde wasn't upgraded. For some reason the manual recreation of the top panel changed the icon for the menu that qole had provided. Since I didn't know how to fix that manually, I ended up restoring the directory /home/user/.config/lxpanel from a backup that I had made fortunately at one point. So my recommendation for anybody playing around with similar upgrades is to backup their Debian image as well as /home/user/.config. At least the latter doesn't cost much space. EDIT: Meanwhile I noticed some breakages from upgrading gconf2. Evince starts with an error saying that its configuration was broken. So I de-installed abiword, and reverted back to gconf2 from lenny, which was a bit messy. For the record, I had to do Code:
apt-get install abiword- gnumeric- Code:
apt-get install gconf2 |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
I was wondering if anyone has had success using easy debian
with bluetooth? Say for wireless printers, keyboard or projectors. |
