Ah, mea culpa; I didn't click it as I was on my n900 at the time and didn't want to install that version.

Re: [Announce] cuteTube - A feature-rich YouTube client

Sorry if it's been mentioned before and I missed it...

I've found that the "Video cannot be played" error disappears and the video plays fine when I tried again. Sometimes on the second try, sometimes it takes 10, but 9 times out of 10 it plays eventually.

This is with 1.8.1. I have not tried it with 1.8.0 but it might be the same.

hello everybody,

i have a strange problem and didn't find no solution here..
i have installed cutetube 1.7.9 and i can not upgrade. fapman an the stock one dont show me cutetube as installed, i can't upgrade and if i try to install the new version (1.8.1) fapman tells me it is removing cutetube but needs hours till nothing happens. same in terminal.

the strangest thing is that cutetube 1.7.9 still works fine.

any idea?

thank a lot..

My Nokia N900 had the kernel for power users installed. Today I have upgraded CuteTube and some parts of the kernel were removed. The phone is now a brick and cannot initialize. Users of power kernel be careful.

Your unhappy situation likely is not due to cutetube per se. How did you upgrade: HAM, FapMan or apt-get and was cutetube the only thing noted for an upgrade at the time?

Re: [Announce] cuteTube - A feature-rich YouTube client

Today I tried every single version of Cutetube and QMLtube available on the Maemo repositories - not one of them works properly.
I went to the lenght of trying that because the other youtube clients are also broken (but not supported anymore), and the latest devel version 1.8.2 brought back the asynchronous double audio track and introduced flickering coloured blurs for video, while still refusing to give my either for some videos ("video cannot be played").

I don't know. I didn't make any changes to presets, so I guess the standard Maemo flash player is called by CT? Aynway it's not the Media Player as in earlier versions of CT. I installed the 10.2 Flash Player that is tweaked to appear as 11.4, but that hasn't changed anything about CT's behavior.

open cutetube settings and set media player or kmplayer and than see if the behaviour continues, my guess is it will not...

yesterday my cutetube updated to 1.9.1. I don't see any changes, everything works fine

Re: [Announce] cuteTube - A feature-rich YouTube client

Yes, there is a changelog. If you use FAPman (which I use primarily since it's much faster than HAM), you can see the full debian change log history inside. Here's the changelog for 1.9.1

Code:

* Fixed signature decryption for VEVO videos.
* Removed comment replies for YouTube videos.

I have a feature request. Please have an option to sort the search results. For me the most interesting sort is by length (ascending-descending), but I can imagine other criteria too (by name, by author...). Sorry if it's been requested already.

The youtube API only allows for relevance, date, views, and rating. If it can't be done on the website itself then it's probably not available. I'm sure it's doable but it will require more local resources and have more restrictions. It's best done on the database level and youtube doesnt seem to offer that.

pichlo 2014-01-01 22:15

Re: [Announce] cuteTube - A feature-rich YouTube client

I thought naiively about getting all the results from youtube and then sort them locally but I appreciate that it might be an endless list so local resources would definitely play a role. Never mind, it was just an idea.

BTW, another idea. if not sorting, then perhaps filtering? That might work with the current API but could be harnessed to achieve a similar end result (e.g. hide results shorter than x minutes etc).

I'm trying to install cutetube for the first time, having uninstalled cutetube QML. My HAM shows 1.8.2, but when I try to install, it says it cannot find cutetube. FAPman shows 1.9.1. The application catalogs, extras-devel in particular, in HAM are in good order.

you can download deb file from http://maemo.org/packages/view/cutetube/ to PC and then copy it to your phone

Yeah, but I was trying to figure out why HAM was showing an old version; if it was doing that for the other applications too, I could not rely on it at all.

Disabling Nokia System Software Updates from the application catalogs solved the problem (if it matters, this was the single catalog preceding extras-devel in the catalog list).

Sorry if this was unrelated to cutetube.

Has the set to landscape bug been fixed? I think I'm seeing it, assuming it means the orientation setting changes to landscape on its own. Using 1.9.1.

Thanks for the great application.

Hi, after the update to 1.9.1 I experienced a problem where cutetube was unable to save downloaded files. I thought I'd try a reinstall so I uninstalled cutetube.
Now I am unable to install cutetube due to a dependency:
Unable to update 'cuteTube'
Application packages missing: libspeex1 (>=1.2~ beta 3-1)

I've found a similar problem mentioned in this thread where Marxian states that cutetube does not depend on this file.
So where does this dependency come from?

I've tried an apt-get install but the same dependency is shown:

cuteTube does not explicitly depend on libspeex1, but it is a dependency of gstreamer, which is required by libqtm-12.

Why? Because I shouldn't have to. The application should be able to install using HAM.
Also when the developer states in the same thread that the program does not depend on the package and HAM gives a warning about the same package something's not right.

Just because I can type apt-get install cutetube doesn't mean I will blindly say 'Y' to every question that pops up.
You need to know what you're saying yes to.

Furthermore I'd like to know the reason why this problem even occured and get it fixed.

Re: [Announce] cuteTube - A feature-rich YouTube client

I tried to download a youtube video. I started the download and then moved to other screens (youtube, other apps, etc). After a while the N900 shut down completely. About 3/4 of the video can be played; the thumbnail is not displayed correctly in the Archive. Any advice as to what could have gone wrong or I did wrong? My N900 never shuts down out of the blue.

chill 2014-03-31 00:59

Re: [Announce] cuteTube - A feature-rich YouTube client

Having now upgraded to 1.9.5 (previous post was with 1.9.1), I downloaded the same video. It finished ok, but the thumbnail is not shown in Archive. Instead, it appears as a .jpg file in the cutetube download folder. Repeating the same download again, the same happens, and another (identical) jpg is created in the cutetube download folder.

pichlo 2014-03-31 12:11

Re: [Announce] cuteTube - A feature-rich YouTube client

Can you try moving the .jpg from .../cuteTube to .../cuteTube/.thumbnails? (Note the dot, as in cuteTube slash dot thumbnails.) Then start CuteTube and check if the video reappeared in Archive.

I have a different problem. A lot of videos I download play fine as Archives in CuteTube but do not play at all in Media Player. Why? It seems completely random (or at least I have not found any pattern yet), but it is consistent: the same video either plays fine or not.
