* Fixed modest's New Message button.
* Forced hildon-home's maximum number of desktops to 9.
* Minor UI change for libcpaboutcssu.

To get the changes for hildon-desktop, just edit traisitions.ini
New lines here for those who want to append the changes: http://gitorious.org/community-ssu/h...ons.ini#line43

Second change is to prepare modest for proper portrait mode.
Third one's for the issue some of you have been getting in this thread.

Just one question, what do you think of the rate of updates?

I get excited everytime I wake up and see that little yellow icon blinking. :)
As long as they keep making my N900 better, as they have been, I am all for it.
Thanks for yours and the other CSSU's work on this MohammadAG.

Yeah that's exactly what it is - set it to 3.0 or higher for crazy results!

One thing I've noticed since this update is that the desktop background doesn't loop properly anymore. I have 4 desktops and after the 4th one you can see the harsh line between that and the 1st. It's not related to parallax I don't believe as the background still moves at the same rate. Any suggestions?

isn't there any way to make the z axis rotation not blink? I think that would be like super cool right? what's hindering that from happening?

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

zoom while pressing is cool...... hahaha... MORE options for us!

nice that now we can control the paralax of the panning of desktops~... again another option for us...

that's why i like this phone. There's just SO much flexibility. ON/OFF up to us

It would indeed be super cool. Patches welcome. thp, mardy & Mohammad can explain why it's hard (at some point the orientation needs to switch, and the app needs to redraw in the other rotation).

It would be nice if the portrait mode would work like on the Nokia Symbian phones. I mean that it would stay in portrait mode until tilted back to landscape. Now the portrait mode is on only when the phone is tilted right side down, and it goes back to landscape when tilted in any other direction.

I'd imagine the stable repository would have less frequent updates, after all we want to have lots of test plans which we crowdsource to know that the SSU works before declaring a release "stable" - these would take time to execute. However, hopefully the -testing repository would stay with relatively frequent updates - it all depends on how many developers get involved!

I'm in no way a person to create patches like that... wish I could really... no need to explain.. i'm sure that there is solid reason why it can't be done at the moment... just glad to know it's 'hard' instead of 'impossible'

thanks to the cssu team for making this thread albeit the n900 a huge hit again

how many n900 users are out there in the world? huh?. if only a marketing strategy would start spreading the word on this new updates coming on a regular basis maybe nokia and µSoft could rethink their strategy and dropping their wp7 and just rename Maemo intro WP7/8/9/, or not :D:p. I belive it would rise interest in new end-users.

A marketing strategy is needed for when the stable one is released. Perhaps it'd include things like a standard maemo.org header for devices coming with an unmodified N900; getting Nokia to include a link in the Tableteer RSS feed; press release to Engadget et al ...? Feel free to start http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/Marketing and link to it from "Contributing" on the homepage.

I have to agree with the other posters wondering what surprise awaits us behind that flashing yellow icon makes getting up in the morning something to look forward to each day.

It is great we are on the cutting edge of developement and perhaps Nokia should of put the CSSU in place from day 1, I do wonder if the CSSU may change the way firmware updates are controlled in the fuure, if not, we are all having great time developing the N900 to its true potential. Please keep the updates coming I can't wiat to get home and try 12.5!!

working for me with the new message button fixed. Make sure you have transition.ini settings correct (sets to defaults after update).
Now all modest needs is a fix for dialogues and modest will be perfect. (portrait wise anyway)

parallax is when you scroll across desktops and the icons scroll faster than the background, making the icons appear closer. a larger number in the transition.ini file for parallax and the faster the icons will move.

zoom press just does a quick little zoom out and back in again with you touch certain things, I'm assuming these things are to do with hildon-desktop (ie. when you touch the close button or touch the desktop background this is activated).
The effect this is supposed to give is that your pressing the screen into the device, or something like that.

i just can't thank all of you enuff for what the community has given us....this phone..the N900..is the best phone i've ever had...however, given the full support/contribution from the developers/community..again..it's beyond words..

this N900 has serve me very well..and i believe..with the continuous support by the community..the N900 will serve me well as long as it still functioning...

i also believe..that the N900 will become a legend..a title that no other phones deserve..and i hope the N900 will be a base platform for future Tablet Phone..

(note i didn't include the "brand" infront of N900!!i just can't say/type it!! :D:D)

The rate of updates is outstanding IMHO. Every few days something new. I get the feeling that I can discover the phone like I would buy a new one. This is superb. It's getting better and better so I can only say THANK YOU developers. Thanks to You and N900 since 3 months I only use Linux for my daily work!

Amazing work on this, i've yet to install it on my phone because i need it on a daily basis (not to say that installing it would break anything, just erring on the side of caution) but it is truly astounding the rate of updates and improvements...

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

About the rate of the updates - fantastic. The responses to the people's complaints and issues are being addressed very well and I don't see why anyone should have any problems with coming up and trying things out to give feedback to the developers. This is real customer service and support.

Besides the 'no blinking' z axis rotation thing, probably the next thing to note is the conversations 'rearranging text to fit into portrait' because now when it's in portrait, the conversations are still orientated landscaped-wise.

A suggestion also: probably the task switcher can be made portrait if a single column task switcher is used? then vertical scrolling becomes more sound right? so, maybe when the single column task switcher is toggled on, then it is possible for the user to experience a portrait task switcher too. Of course this is IF getting the default or double column task switcher to go portrait is difficult instead of a single column one.

Hope these suggestions help

Folks

Does anybody know if the Hildon-desktop fix ( another link ) was also included in the CSSU? It really increases the battery life (up to 5 days) for anyone who has installed catorize or other application managers.

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

A strange thing happened to me after the last update. The conversations app broke. The sms messages where sending correctly but they haven't been shown. Should I raise a bug on it or it was just a problem on my device? I did a reboot after the update, then changed the values in thp tweeks and that was all. If I should raise a bug how and where to do it. I never did it.

It's not Matan's fix, it's Nokia's official upstream fix that didn't make it (for some reason) in PR1.3, and yes, it's included.

The Conversations app does that sometimes on PR1.3, it's closed source, and I didn't include any packages that modify it, so it's not related to the CSSU.

I've had this happen to me a long time ago, when i was playing with conversation ui files.
what I would do:
1. reboot device
2. restore a backup (if you have it make sure it was a working backup, otherwise download from here http://wiki.maemo.org/Conversation_Mods) of the html folder in rtcom-messaging-ui (css, html and js files) close all conversation windows and conversation app. open conversation and see if it works.
3. installed any new apps before this went wonky? try uninstalling them... alhtough i don't know of any apps that'll do this.
4. use default theme and reinstall hildon-desktop (won't be this but would rather be sure before flashing)
5. flash kernel, in my experience solves a couple of these types of problems.

See this thread. There are some conversation themes and some of them work in portrait mode perfectly. Also see the wiki page.

I have not tried restoring the back up, will try it next time. I generally connect the phone to Ovi Suite if i have it handy, it shows up there. :)
I have had no installed apps that went wonky. :)
I am already on the default theme, and I am using the Hildon-desktop from CSSU. I would not want to back out from there. :)
Not flashing the kernel. A complete phone flash is on the cards, just dunno when. My phone has been running slow anyways! :)

Mohammad during the rotation in the luncher there is a small imperfection :)
It's an insignificant thing, but a small part of the icon of the menu (the 6 balls xD) seems to rotate with the other icons.

Tnx 4 the attention and 4 the divine work :)

you can also see the outline of the "6 balls" using the zoom thing, when you go from the menu into a submenu.
