Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

Routing is still odd with me.

I use it daily to get a route from home to the train station, 35 miles away, mostly by Interstate highway. Sygic will pick a different exit and different side roads almost randomly. I've yet to have the exact same route over the last week.

Oh, and NONE of the have been the most optimal either as fastest are least complex. Close, but no cigar.

Any news on the Traffic Updates function that's in the "hidden" menu? Is that up and running yet? Not updated mine since the release date as it works fine and can't be arsed re-doing the mods if there is little/nothing in the way of new features.

I believed this was addressed earlier in this thread. But I'll post the answer again (though please search the forum next time). Traffic updates will be coming in Mobile Maps 10. Anyone who bought Mobile Maps 9 will be receiving a free upgrade to Mobile Maps 10.

And just to bring it up again if anyone else asks. Mobile Maps 10 =/= Aura. If Sygic brings Aura to the Maemo/Meego platform you will have to buy Aura seperately. Aura is apparantly some social networking thing combined with GPS.

Try the following:
Navigate to - Address - United Kingdom - Your City - Your Street - House Number.

Sorry - just read all of your post and noticed that you already knew how to do this by this method. Apologies!

This migth be a strange question, but how do you get out of full screen mode?
After the update today fullscreen seems to be default?

The navigation is spot on now. Not 10 m behind like in the first version.

You could use the CamKeyd app!

I saw the GPS Logs in the last release but didn't realise they were actually working. Just been playing around with them.

Thanks for the answer Laughing Man.

Not so much thanks for the "read the rest of the thread" remark. I read this thread. I have posted on it a few times, in fact.

My question related to whether anyone had heard anything about it yet, not whether it was ever coming or how.

On balance though, thanks.

I couldn't get that repo to work with those instructions, I tried again today and no go. Could someone who actually got it working please post the _exact_ parameters for the application manager setup? Thanks. (As the Sygic server doesn't allow access to directories in general on their server it's not possible to simply figure it out by using a web browser.)

No I don't which is a bit of a shame. It would save a bit of time if they would add that little feature

It supported portrait mode before too. You just had to choose it manually. Now it's automatic.

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

Used the latest update this morning. Auto rotate display mode is great, less menu presses. Also started in full screen but I think that was because my mods were still there. Overall not a big change to the look but there may be other bug fixes behind the scene. Still no house number on UK postcode search though :(

For me the accuracy of the fix as reported on the GPS Status screen has gone from averaging 20-30yds before the update to 5-10yds after it.

No, it replaces the .desktop file, so your mods there were overwritten. It's just defaulting to fullscreen mode now.

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

Just in case anyone forgets. The new update requires you to go and modify your settings again. I had thought I had done this but had forgot about the speed cam settings so don't forget to enable those again in case you get caught by a camera on your next journey.

Do you need to redo the FPS mods to fix the lag behind or is that fixed as well?

Nice update Sygic.

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

I downloaded Sygic from the repository through AppManager.

Unfortunately, it is crashing with a segmentation fault. I ran it through strace and it seems that several files are missing like:

/home/opt/sygic/Drive/Maemo/skin/application.skin
/home/opt/sygic/Drive/Maemo/skin/english.lang

In fact, the full skin directory is missing.

http://sygic.com/maemo is giving now a 404, so I cannot download from the web in order to compare contents.

Can someone verify whether those files should be present, and this could be the actual reason for the crash?

Thx in advance.

you should have these files when you 1st installed the app

That's the problem, this is exactly the first time I install the app. I didn't install it before, nor downloaded it from sygic's web.

I simply added the repository yesterday, the app was available there and installed it.

Though I know it is an update for people that had previously installed it, it is a new installation for me.

Packages available through app manager should be always complete apps and never expect a previous install to exist. That's the way debs work. There are no incremental debs.

So I suppose it's a packaging error, then.

Well - the repository is there for Sygic users. Which if you've not bought it then it doesn't apply?

Its not a packaging error - the package from the Sygic repository contains the 'new' installation file for the updated app.
