ok i have just contacted someone who has been dealing with my order and he says that all orders who have changed to ready to dispatch should ship today if all goes to plan.

i jokingly asked if he would be please to see the back of us and he said, no offence but yes we would. i also said its been a bit of a disaster and he laughed.

Hence the question: do Vodafone give out PAC straight away?

Note: T-Mobile gives PAC straight away, so you can use it as your stop-gap.

Cheers for the reply. I requested my PAC last night from Vodafone and the girl quoted me 72hrs. Chased them about 10 minutes ago and the guy quoted me 48hrs, from request after I asked him to chase the transfers dept ;)

As has been said before, we don't have any info on whether you can use VoIP with an unlimited data bundle - it's possible, but it can use a LOT of data very quickly - this is why you can use it through the Broadband on your phone though

http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.ph...dpost&p=231931

If you want to be able to make Skype calls over the 3G network however, we do require you to add the "Via the phone" broadband bundle to your price-plan. This gives you a 5GB data limit, so we know you'll have enough allowance each month to keep up with the Skype's data-hungry demands. By comparison, our normal flexi plans and data bundles have a Fair Usage Policy of 500MB before we start to consider your data usage to be higher than it should be. Skype would eat through that fairly quickly. Skype will not be available over our network without this bundle on your phone for that very reason.

http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.ph...dpost&p=189627

We don't havea data bundle that'll support and cover Skype for you I'm afraid - the reason for this is that Skype will try and get the best possible connection that it can, taking up more bandwidth and using a LOT more data - you'd use all of your data up very quickly this way

This is exactly the kind of news we need! Although MPD's plans never go well...!

Personally, I feel sorry for the MPD staff - its not their fault that their company can't communicate to them/their customers. They just took the brunt of all our annoyances... Although there were of course some staff members that needed some customer service training, but you get that in a lot of places.

I'll have someone at home off work tomorrow to receive it if it does ship today. What a great weekend present it would be! I may see if I can get home at lunch time and take it back to work...hmmm!

I ordered 09/11/2009 16:20:37 and I'm pretty sure I will not be in the first batch but that doesn't stop me from going to MPD's order tracker every so often just in case.

Amen to that.

When I worked at a local ISP I BADLY needed training but they were completely useless. They would have group meetings for training and ask "what do you need to know?", well if I knew that I wouldn't NEED training would I!?

I was dealing with phone calls/tickets every day not knowing if it was a subject I should have known and be able to respond to, or something outside of what customer support was supposed to be providing. In the end they got rid of me as I could not fob people off the phone quick enough when they demanded to see a manager and our policy was not to do so (which I believe is illegal actually).

All in all, it was aweful as I always consider myself a fairly knowledgeable guy, but if you work somewhere with poor training - there is not a lot you can do about it.

That must be an oversight, you order nearly 3 weeks before me. I'd ring them they may have just not updated your tracker page.

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

I never understand people who cancel because they are "too proud".

The problems I have had with companies, if I were that proud I wouldn't own anything. Roughly 99% of businesses are garbage, or at least doing something morally wrong. But its silly to cut off your nose to spite your face, you just have to live with it or go live in a cave away from capitalist society.

I can safely say i will never pre-order anything again, the waiting is hell..............2.5 months waiting and being dissappointed but this mornings "ready for despatch" has made me almost forget all the annoyance and replace it with excitement. Hope the phone isn't an anticlimax when i get it!!!

More importantly who'd gonna be the first MPD customer receive it first?? Don't have work till 2pm tomorrow and my post comes between 8-10am, but I'm in South Yorks?

Plus who's gonna be the first with mic problems and has to send it back?? Looks like there were loads in the first batch that can't make phone calls. WTF

well that and the press release from nokia yesterday - only releasing a maemo "computer" on maemo 6 next year..

i dont trust nokia to not dump support for this device as soon as they've filled their orders.

my friend bought an n97, its taken from june until november for a firmware update which has fixed none of the issues with his phone

Nokia also said that they will be focusing on symbian next year, with a completely new UI and structure to surface in Q2 2010.

I wouldnt b suprised if they move the maemo distro into the netbook market like Google has done with chrome and is doing with android.

hey, I'm in South Yorkshire too (Sheffield)! I've gotta work tomorrow but my wife will be at home most of the morning so I'm hoping she'll be there when the postman comes.

Hope that this batch is not the same as the first batch and they don't have the same mic problems

As they are sending them Special Delivery, it shouldn't make any difference where in the country we are - they are all guaranteed Next Day. Its all down to if MPD actually get them in the post today or not.

Thing is, how much "support" do we need? They'll do us some firmware updates which they've already promised and we've got the clever dev community! There's not really that much wrong with it anyway...

N97 - same story as all Nokia mobiles. N95 and N96 were both awful when they started life. They needed multiple firmware updates. My N96 works like a dream now... Its just not MY dream!

Nokia will definitely release a Maemo 6 smartphone/computer next year - they'd fail as a company if they didn't carry on taking the fight to the iphone/smartphone industry...
