Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls

Hi guys,

I just logged a bug where some email receipients' address went missing when REPLY_ALL mails. I'm using MfE syncing with exchange 2007.

IMO this is a very serious bug and please vote for this bug (PR#9214) if you encounter it as me.

Thanks. :)

The problem with voting for bugs is that it asks you for another username and password.........kind of obstructionist

Yeah, only those that occur within two weeks. I have tried all settings from "sync calendar back" like, 1 month, all entries etc. It simply doesn't download the events (occurring in more-than-two-weeks time) on the N900 calendar.
Sync stops if you "check" the "sync contacts" field.
I'm wondering what would happen if you try to create another calendar separate from the default "N900"

Currently the N900 MfE implementation will not synchronise recurring events (i.e. events that are set up with a repeat schedule). They synchronise fine into an empty calendar, but will then fail when synchronised a second time. See https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7971 - please vote for the bug, but do not add a "me too" comment.

Hi T,

I have hundreds of folders so I installed mfefolders so that i only sync the inbox. The problem i am having is that mfefolders takes about 30 seconds to start then when it has shown me the list of folders it only gives me about 30 seconds to start unchecking before it closes by itself. Now i dont even have enough time to scroll down to uncheck the rest. Do you have an idea what could be the issue. I am using version 0.23-3.

Cheers

Eug

Open the xterm and start the MfEfolders from there. that is:
Code:

/home/opt/mfefolders/mfefolders.py
At least for me it works like that uninterrupted.

For me, N900 MfE synchronizes recurring events flawlessly (Exchange 2007 host). They are visible in the N900 calendar, with notes like "(Complex repeat. Unable to edit.)" or "Repeat Every month, Until Friday 18 December 2037". So the bug must be related to specific configurations of Exchange server or specific types of recurring events.

This happens everytime I n900 syncs with exchange.

I had a thread here, but figured this might be a better place.

A quick summary of the other thread:[INDENT]I am running Exchange 2003 with a Self-Signed Certificate, this is all working correctly, the instructions to get this working were simple and easy to follow.

The bug is fixed. I have added the problem statement and workaround to the wiki.

Thank you for finding and excuse us for facing this problem.

I have voted for this bug. Didn't add a comment because it wasn't necessary. What I don't understand is... why did it work the first time I have sync'd it. Why PR 1.0 worked, and why it didn't work after updating to 1.1.1? Anyway I don't really need to see events occurring later than two weeks as the calendar is already full.

Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls

Just got an N900. We run a Zimbra Server that I have synced successfully with an iPhone 3G, Google Nexus One and Motorola Droid using activesync. I set up the N900 using the usual credentials and as others have mentioned the last 10 or so emails have the dreaded "no recipient" and the messages are blank. The first several hundred (I sync 3 days) are OK. Contacts and calendar seem to work fine.

Has a fix been identified for this? I've tried IMAP but it's just too slow as it downloads all my messages (like 6000 or so).

Do you run Zimbra Server v5 or v6? There's a bug filed in bugzilla which eventually says some Zimbra sync issues are relevant with backend v5 and fixed with v6.

I'm exactly in the same situation with the same behavior and waiting for my Zimbra provider to upgrade to v6.

It's running through a service provider. They are using v5. An upgrade is imminent. However, if that doesn't fix it, I have what is essentially a useless piece of equipment since I need Exchange to function properly. Fortunately, I got the device at Amazon and unless there is a fix soon, it will be going back since this is my primary business mobile device.

Connecting to Exchange 2007 - How do you get it to work???

I've tried everything.

All I keep getting when it tries to connect (after entering server details) is:

"Either exchange server requires a secure connection or your account it disabled"

- we're using Exchange 2007

- I've copied and installed our self signed certificate but still it wont work.

Can anyone help? It's driving me mad!!!

Does your Exchange server require provisioning? If so, I can see that being a problem.

How can Nokia get away with it???

You are not alone bro. My N900 is in the box due to this lunacy. I have even written on the blog of their leader, Jaaksi, with no response..............it was a device not meant for professionals.......

Make no mistake, MfE does work. However the N900 gives the user too much control for them to legitimately respond to the Exchange server that it supports provisioning in any fashion.

Frankly, if provisioning and mobile access are -required- by your employer, they should provide the device.

If iphone can provide it, I would expect N900 to do an even better job.......however, did not happen

The implicit assumption with the iPhone is that the user has no real control over the device and for the vast majority of users this is true and jailbroken devices should be banned by your admins.

The N900 implicitly assumes the user can and will gain root access ti the system, which totally defeats the purpose of requiring provisioning.

Not when the user is assumed to have root access. You could try, but I could just compromise the communication and prevent any deletes/wipes.

That is too bad. No matter the reason, people assumed that it will do the same as iphone, droid, and E series devices.........lot of angry people over this issue.

Not usually - the provisioning levels mostly required are password restrictions, remote lock & remote wipe (though there's something like 27 different provisioning options). You could probably manage remote wipe through MfE (of contacts/calendar anyway), but not the others.

EDIT: Oh, and if this is an issue for you, please make sure to vote for the relevant bug

Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls

I have a problem now I finally got the Exchange connector working

It works fine if I connect to the wireless in our office on our LAN, but I get an error when I try and syncronize at home via my wireless

the dns name is the same both publicly and internally, so there shouldnt be any difference other than I get the following

Exchange Account Disabled. Access Refused

Also what is strange is that under the Exchange Mailbox on the N900 the sent items show the sent items from my hotmail mailbox

Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls

I made a post over here http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...1&postcount=24 but was not sure if that was the right place for it. Anyway to re cap...
If I go into Mail for exchange and click on "Full resynchronization" The Gui shows the initializing works, but when it gets to the Cal and Tasks it hangs at about 98%.
If I do just contacts by its self it works seems to be no problems.
I have tried to delete all appointment and tasks on the n900 and re-sync, but the same thing happens.
So as of now the Cal sync is messed up for me. Is there something I can delete? or a log somewhere I can look at? Run it from command line?

All sent mail from the N900 goes to the same folder, since there's no support for remote Sent folders over IMAP/MfE in Modest.

My provider switched to Zimbra v6 today and I can report that N900 MfE now syncs with it just fine (including tasks!).

I see that Vitaly is very silent in these days...
I hope (but I'm quite sure of it ) he's hard working on the fixes and enhancement on MFE :D

I just saw the announcement of Tinymail 1.0 and that Modest will be updated in the coming firmware release PR 1.2.

I hope we'll start to have a decent email client. I hope that also Calendar app will be upgraded and enhnaced too.
That will solve probably also the famous bug of the Mfe sync of recurring events in calendar app.

Or is it just a Mfe with exchange 2003 problem ?

I was referring to the bug https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7971

Vitaly, any good news about it ?

Hoping to see the PR 1.2 update very soon ...

Hi guys. Long time HTC user here.

Got my N900 today. Set it up with Mail for Exchange.

Awesome stuff. One problem though!

I have about 70 subfolders in my inbox, that all have incoming mail all day long. Somewhere in between 70-120 mails a day. DFSreports, support mails etc.

Is there any way i can make MfE only sync the INBOX, and not the subfolders?

Tried a search, but couldn't find anything.
Thanks in advance.

you want mfefolders. it's in the extras-devel repository, you don't have to download it from the page i linked.

sorry, i was wrong - mfefolders is in -testing already, which should be a bit safer than -devel for the average user.

Yes, see here.
It's basically the non valid bugtracker link that stops it from going to extras.
