Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Best guess, you need this one (seems you have middle east FW on the device)

Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Thank you. Could you explain how you know this? The code on the sim tray is 059J260 not 059J231.

The N9 won't boot because the flash failed.

Try with another usb port and cable?

If you look here http://wiki.maemo.org/Flashing_N9 you will see variant 006 is middle east version FW. Sp, simply search on all firmwares on mrcrabb, and locate one that have "006" in filename. Size and color doesnt matter really. |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Note that the number on the simtray indicates only what variant of the firmware was *originally* shipped with the phone.
Because it's possible to flash a variant with a higher revision number than the existing one (as explained at top of the thread) and because the simtray may have been swapped with a different one, it's not reliable to use the simtray number to guess the firmware variant. If you want to know the existing firmware version, use the flasher command with option -i . Anyway in your flashing attempt the first thing flasher has done is spell out the device identification, i.e. what your device currently is/has: Code:
Device identifier: 357923043093089 (SN: N/A) |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Hi guys.
I am wondering how secure the secure erase feature really is. I flashed my phone using the --erase-user-data=secure option but the whole process only took a few minutes. Is it any different from standard Windows quick formatting? Does it really make it impossible (or at least difficult) to recover erased data? An why did it only need such a short time to complete? The guide states that "it will take a very long time" but I've heared from other users that securely flashing their phones also took only a few minutes. Cheers. |

As for why it is cited to take a long time and it actually takes less than that; few minutes is actually awfully long time. It also depends on whether you have a 16G or 64G device, it takes 4 times longer to erase the larger device. |

Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
i bought an N9. i killed the OS on the second day. after a long time i figured out that my phone has different firmware like on the SIM-card tray (059L4M9). 059L4M9's region code is 280(?) or what while i got the phone with a preinstalled generic firmware what region code is 005. so i have no clue what was the original firmware, i only saw the version and the region code. then i flashed my knocked out phone with a DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_005-OEM1-958_ARM.bin and a DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3.418.2_PR_LEGACY_418_ARM_RM-696_PRD_signed.bin which contained my phone's CMT. now i killed my phone again cause i did an apt-get dist-upgrade what removed some serious packages from the OS...what a mess.
so now i have some questions. i really want to stop this terrible flashing game series: 1. afaik the hardware is the same: what is the difference between region firmwares? exactly 001 vs. 005. 2. i'm a European guy so if somehow possible: how the hell i can change my phone's firmware from 005 to a 001? i would like to install a 059J203 firmware. 3. what are the difference between CMTs? 4. why i need another firmware to install CMT while any other firmwares contain CMT's? |

I bought two N9 phones from China for Xmas. They were supposed to be "original" and unlocked.
One phone has firmware Pr 1.3 (40.2012.21-3.249.1_PR_249) This has Vodafone splash screen and my SIM doesn't work in it. The other phone has firmware PR 1.3 (40.2012.21-3_PR_003) and has Chinese programs. Yet, I can use my SIM card in this one. Can I flash them with a global or latin american firmware? Will flashing remove the Vodafone problem? |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
So, after doing a little searching, I found out that the code on one of the SIM holders is 808 RM-807 Product Code 059M7K7. That is why the holder seems to fat when inserted. It's very hard to insert and remove. It's not even for this phone. This also means I don't know the variant code needed for the firmware. Can I install these : DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.13-7.LTA_EMMC_LTA
DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_001-OEM1-958_ARM RM696_059J260_40.2012.21.3_001.vpl on these phones? |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Did you find out currently installed FW with 'flasher -i'?
Be careful flashing the chinese variant phone, as cmt (telephony) on these may not be downgraded. So could produce problems when flashing other FWs (lots of info/threads here). For sure you cannot flash the global001 image at all. Downgrade is not possible. For the PR249 variant phone you need to find a higher FW version (possibly Switzerland 480, my variant ;)). Please inform yourself a bit more before flashing anything (as especially for the chinese one you may break something). |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Quote:
As said already, forget what's written on the SIM holder and just use the 'flasher -i' command. Probably it would be better to keep the one with 003 variant (i.e. Chinese) apart for now as you would need to flash the cmt, which isn't possible, and instead work on finding a FW variant suitable for the other phone. |

Did not have a look at all to the SIM holder pictures. But as this one is the 808 holder the phones itself may still be 'original' (a lot were produced in China). |

Okay, I have done a flash - i to both of the phones. Could someone send me an appropriate link from Mr.Crab.net of a FW I could load on this non-chinese phone to remove the branding and the SIM card problem from Vodafone?

The first page of this thread says:"Additionally, there is a content image ("eMMC image") for most countries/regions that can be used to reset the user data on the phone and restore the wallpaper/music/map files that originally shipped with it. It is possible to "mix and match" any content image with any main firmware image, which is useful for installing your home country's maps on an imported N9. If you don't require preinstalled maps, or if Nokia doesn't produce a content image for your country (e.g. US and Canada), you can save time by using the content image for product code 059J1Z5 ("rest of world"), which doesn't include map files." So, my two questions are, if my firmware on the phone is DFL61_Harmattan_40.2012.21-3.249.1_PR 249, can I use DFL61 HARMATTAN 40.2012.21-3.348.2 PR LEGACY 348 ARM RM-696 PRD signed.bin from N9 Rm-696 Country Variant Argentina Ar Black deepskd v4 --Product Code : 059L4L3 ? Does any of the "deepskd v4" mean something particular that I don't understand? OR use the DFL61 HARMATTAN 40.2012.21-3.299.1 PR LEGACY 299 ARM RM-696 PRD signed.bin --from N9 RM-696 Country Variant Australia AU Black 16GB V1 - MR Product Code : 059L698? Again, the V1 - MR confuses me. I don't want another "rebranding" of the phone. Also, can I use the DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.13-7.LTA_EMMC_LTA instead of the one that is listed with the FWs? Thank you in advance for your patience and reply. |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
You can fetch any/every/doesntmatter eMMC image you like and mix with every FW.
No idea about ,deepskd'. But as the second one also has some nice addition and both are Country Variants I would not care. A country variant is made to match all needs (possibly also restrictions!) of all providers in a country. So this verson will work in specified country for all providers. (it is not a global firmware, but close to that regarding the country) About your chinese I would not touch it if it works for you. You may find a lot of info in this thread and also external threads about that problem. |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Thanks a lot. :)
One last question. Do I only need those two files (FW & eMMC) or do I need any others from the page with the FW? |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
For flashing those two are sufficient.
But there is also one file (do not remember name) with md5sums of flashing files. Those may be necessary to check a broken download (can produce weird flashing errors). |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Regarding the firmwares, generally all the variants with numbers 200 or higher are for operators, so in principle you always run the risk to get a 'branded' version (although, some operators are more discreet and don't put their logo everywhere).
So, probably it would be better for you to have a good look at the list of variants available, sort them by increasing variant number, and try them one by one, starting from lowest number. When you find one that seems decent, be happy, otherwise go on flashing the next one in the list. |

I suspect that the other phone has been 003 originally and someone has just tried to flash random firmware in it (that would explain non-working sim). So thats more trickly one, basicly if it has been 003 and someone has flasher some newer non-003 firmware in it, then you will never get sim working, ie you have wifi-tablet or brick in your hands. But if your lucky and it has not been 003 chinense from beginning, then you might get lucky by reading this forum. |
