Take my current project updating a software library, half the features used were depreciated when it was written, over 4 years ago, yet the original devs neglected to read the docs.

Some won't read it but on the other hand the current string is utmost confusing and fooled me once too, I was checking if my rootfs had enough empty space.

Nope.
Code:

I've already experineced this issue some times. And on my phone CSSU-testing is enabled, CSSU-devel is not.

I don't know how exactly did you manage to break your system, but I can assure you that libxml2 and zlib1g(from thumb repo) work perfectly fine.

Could you issue "apt-get update" and give me the output from "apt-get upgrade" afterwards. Press N when apt-get upgrade ask you to continue.

P.S. make sure you don't have cssu-devel repo enabled.

Once I had a problem with the size of the update. I hadn't got enough space left on ROOTFS. This happened: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...55#post1265355
So I would like to see which packages are updating, is optify successful, and how much space does this thing need. Also this is the first time I've encountered an issue.
Please wait a few minutes, and I'll upload the terminal output.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

The slider switch on the right on my N900 that toggles the display on/off started behaving erratically after the 7 January update. It fails to switch the display off in one out of four attempts and on in three out of four (actually, it may in fact succeed every time but takes so long to react that I may press it several times and then it takes all the presses at once with the screen flicking in and out uncontrolably). Has anyone else noticed that? I've had a similar situation before but reset fixed it. Not now though.

Another thing, I tried doing a BackupMenu backup last night but it just rebooted on its own before I could read which button to press. I think it flashed something on the screen before the reset (something about watchdog, perhaps?) but it was so brief that I did not manage to catch it. I tried several times and it was 100% reproducible. However it has been a while since my last backup so this may not be a new thing. The above is definitely new.

I am running 21.2011.38-1Tmaeomo7.2+thumb0.

Sorry if I've missed someone else reporting it already...

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

hi there,

I tried to install the lastest CSSU-thumb version, but I encountered a constant reboot. Thus I restored a previous system version I had with backupmenu and it seems it is still version 21.2011.38-1Tmaemo4-Thumb14.

Following this post (http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=666), I started the upgrading process, leaving the cssu community testing and cssu community thumb repos enabled. The problem I encounter is:
E: Version '21.2011.38-1Tmaemo5.1+thumb0' for 'mp-fremantle-community-pr' was not found
as it's required by cssu-thumb-21.2011.38-1Tmaemo5.1+thumb0.sh.

Browsing the repository via http (http://maemo.merlin1991.at/cssu/comm...-community-pr/), it seems the version uploaded is
mp-fremantle-community-pr_21.2011.38-1Tmaemo7.2+thumb0_all

How should I proceed? Should I change manually in the .sh file the name the package I require?
I'm really not used to this processes nor to the work that has been done to produce those upgrades, so working by my own I could easily break things up.

cheers, and thanks for the work you did! After this upgrade (I use it since the day you made it) the phone is really more responsive.

@ghitly:
The script was issued for a certain amount of time to fix a version mismatch between testing CSSU vs. thumb CSSU. This was weeks ago. Didn't you read the context?
Right now you should just follow the instructions of the first post.

it seems that no matter how hard I try, I still get the same result:
E: Couldn't find package mp-fremantle-community-pr_21.2011.38-1Tmaemo7.2+thumb0

Do I miss some? I really cannot find a way out.

Any suggestions, a part from flashing the device?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

you got it wrong, it is "mp-fremantle-community-pr=21.2011.38-1Tmaemo7.2+thumb0", not "mp-fremantle-community-pr_21.2011.38-1Tmaemo7.2+thumb0"

also, you don;t need "deb http://repository.maemo.org/community/ fremantle free non-free", this is cssu-stable repo.

I don't know, but I'm pretty sure I've seen that message after april (and I have cssu testing since forever). Searching for "problem tabs" in this thread yields 13 results, with the latest being the one I replied to. So it seems that it's only partially fixed.

Finally the system found the package :).
Unfortunately, going through apt-get install mp-fremantle-community-pr=21.2011.38-1Tmaemo7.2+thumb0 didn't brought me to a stable system, as it suffered from rebooting dued to some process starting as quailman said some posts before (I'm not worried though, as I have a solid backup still keeping me up).
I guess my choice could be modifiying by hand the .sh script you put on the discussion months ago (the one I was referring to a couple of posts ago) and let the script do the work, installing all the new packages.
As you can imagine, I already followed the guide that brings HAM to add repositories and then start the community-ssu-enabler, but this just gets stuck telling me that "community-ssu-enabler is already installed".

Well, if you could be so kind to help me, I would appreciate it. Nonetheless, I'm surely not that desperate :).

Managed, but it was a real effort!
In case anyone finds itself in my situation, here how I proceded (some steps are redundant):

1) used the script given long time ago, deleting all the libqml upgrades (seems it had problems downloading the package) and upgrading by hand hildon-desktop (apt-get install hildon-desktop);

2) as quailman said some posts ago, libxml seemed to be a problem (using apt-get install, it didn't find the correct version, telling me it couldn't be downloaded). A solution was installing the .deb found in http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...g-5maemo4+0m5/, solving the dependencies problem via apt-get -f install and then automatically upgrading via apt-get (same occurred with zlib, first downgraded manually via dpkg -i, then upgraded automatically);

3) run a few times upgrade to see if there were missing dependencies.

Now, at the first reboot, everything seems working.
I attach the .sh file, plus the .deb used (they are freely downloadable by the links provided, but it's easier to find them all togheter).

ps: thinking backwards, it seems that "operator name" package caused the issue I experienced (reboot loop was always accompained by a flickering operator name on the desktop).

Live long!

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Hi all, been lurking for a while and getting n900 up to speed etc.

Apologies for starting off with a request for help, especially of this nature.

Been on CSSU (stable) for a while and thought I'd upgrade to Thumb. Followed the instructions in the first post of the thread, but something's gone wrong. It's almost certainly something I did, so again sorry about this.

Right, after clicking on the download there were a number of updates, and the phone shut down. I had it plugged in and had to boot it up manually. After that nothing happened - I think, it was a few hours ago now so the memory's a bit hazy. I did try a few things - restart HAM, restart the install (CSSU-enabler is already installed), etc.

Anyway, I am left with HAM listing a number of updates available, including the update to Thumb. It won't run it though and gives me the following in the "Problems" tab:

Application packages missing: apt (>= 0.7.20.2maemo13.2+0cssu1+thumb0)
dsme-thermalobject-surface
libcurl3(>= 7.26.0.1maemo1+0cssu1+thumb1)
libxml2(>= 2.6.32.dfsg-5maemo4+0m5+0cssu1+thumb0)
Confllict with application packages: libxml2(<2.6.32.dfsg-5meamo4+0m5+0cssu1)

I have tried a couple of different comabinations but currently have the following repos enabled:

Nokia Applications
Nokia System Software Updates
Ovi
maemo.org
CSSU (testing)
CSSU (thumb)
maemo extras-testing

The phone's still workable and I assume I can continue as befoe by disabling the CSSU thumb repo? But I'd like to resolve this and finish the install of thumb, so any help here would be gratefully received.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Do you have kernel-power or kernel-cssu installed?
Code:

apt-cache policy kernel-power kernel-cssu
This would be essential to proceed. Version of kernel-power should be 51r1 or higher.
Additionally please post the log of HAM, you will find it in the 'Problems' tab in HAM or paste the output of
Code:

sudo gainroot
apt-get update
apt-get install --reinstall mp-fremantle-community-pr

Just updated, Marble doesn't work anymore - map window full of garbage. Perhaps something pango related? Anyone else facing the same problem?
Currently I don't have the time to try old packages, if it is needed I can do some digging on Sunday

Thanks for the reply.

I have 1.2.6.28-10power50 installed.
I misunderstood theinstuctions in the first post and thought it said the kernel would be updated if it wasn't at 51r1. Should I update that first?

Here is the output of the update: http://pastebin.com/iWnvkeg6
And the install: http://pastebin.com/9pbrzH8F
(apologies for the formatting)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

@ghitly you should install correct versions of libqtm too, get it (the version) from here http://maemo.merlin1991.at/cssu/comm...q/qt-mobility/

@skanky - double-check you have both cssu-testing and cssu-thumb catalogs enabled in HAM. After doing so, click on "update" button and select "refresh" from the menu. for sure those packages exists (an example here : http://maemo.merlin1991.at/cssu/comm...ol/free/a/apt/). CSSU-thumb metapackage should install the correct kernel automagically

You are missing the community-testing and thumb repository in your list, thus all the dependency problems.
Title: Community SSU (testing)
Url: http://repository.maemo.org/community-testing/
Distribution fremantle
Components free non-free

Title Community SSU (thumb)
Url http://maemo.merlin1991.at/cssu/community-thumb/ fremantle free non-free

The kernel-power will not get upgraded, but kernel-cssu will get installed, i think ...
You might consider upgrading the kernel manually.

Both are enabled, and I did a refresh. Still get the same message in the Problems tag.

If it's any help, there are a number of libs that are marked for updating and all of those have problems (looks like they're all the same), too.

For example, (first in the list) is libqtm-bearer which has a load of conflicts listed e.g. libqt4-opengl(1:4.7.4-git20110505+cssu7)

All the other conflicts have the same version number.

Strange. They're listed in HAM as enabled.
I'll try disabling and re-enablling them.

Update - nope, no luck. Still same error. Tried disabling then re-enabling them and refreshed the update tab.

I think it's the same as the reinstall above but here it is:

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

I've done that, but my reply hasn't appeared - I'm guessing there's a url limit I've hit. I think the output is the same as the one linked in one of my posts above, but otherwise the new output is at pastebin with the following id part: pbsvXRs2

upgrade your kernel-power to version 51r1 and try again, it should be ok.

Getting there. :D

Only problem now is missing dsme-thermalobject-surface.

I'm looking for that now...

@skanky - enable Nokia repo ;)

Code:

It is enabled.

EDIT removed nonsense.

When I run the command above, I get the same output, except that it's not installed. I can install it manually, but if it's a dependency having it installed as such would be better, yes?
