for me the latest bridgedriver.ko causes all video files to fail . format not supported error . reverted back to file from latest 720.zip and all files work again...

Which is normal, "latest" bridgedriver.ko is for stock DSP codecs, libbridge and gst-dsp.

Actually, my test video *will* play in MP and OMP... but only when the phone is overclocked, or if the phone has just been powered up.

When I mentioned Handbrake I was referring to the multiplatform DVD ripping tool with included x264 libraries. The test video I sent was a rip with a specific "Constant Quality" factor. This "CQ rf" value is related to the kB/s of the videostream.

There does seem to be a correlation between the clock speed, the kB/s rate of the video, and gstreamer's willingness to play the video. Some of my videos ripped with a lower bitrate / higher CQ rf number will play regularly in both MP and OMP, while ones with a higher bitrate will regularly fail to play.

Compare with the old dsp drivers, where h264 videos might play sluggishly, but they'd at least play.

to be honest "latest" bridgedriver.ko is for stock DSP codecs, libbridge and gst-dsp. goes past me dont understand sorry :(

In my case after installing the files, "Changelog 02.10.2011" to kp V49, I did not play any file. Give a unrecognized format error.
