Is there development for Dialcentral on Meego fpr the N900?

I've started the Qt port of Dialcentral and is my main focus for development right now. I've just been busy with the job interview process for the last two months which has eaten all of my time. We mutually declined each other so now I'm trying to catch up on everything. Don't worry, I already have a job and am loving it and where I live. I just couldn't resist at least interviewing with this company. * Dialcentral is currently being packaged in deb's. This will work with Nokia's hybrid meego but not the official Meego. I need to look into learning how to package files for Meego (rpm's). |
Re: Dialcentral 1.0
Cool. Thanks for the reply, I also wanted to say(I dont know about others) but to you and those who helped develop Dialcentral thank you it has been pretty solid and non-buggy, I like the App very much.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0
Hi Ed.
I still wish that you could do something about not having the flash notification when sending a text. I've tried immediately refreshing once a message has been sent but it still flashes shortly after. Did you ever like my idea of search the incoming message to see if it had "Me:" in the text and not triggering the notification if it saw that? I thought that might be a good idea, unless you have a better one, or maybe even not one at all. :) But yeah, the blinkfest can be somewhat annoying at times. Is there by any chance a web page that will automatically show when a new message has arrived and just use that instead? Thanks. :) |
Re: Dialcentral 1.0
When on 3G network (t-mobile) the google voice account set on N900 only succeeds to connect the first time after reboot. If disconnected all other accounts (e.g. sipgate and old Gizmo) reconnect but google voice account doesn't become green unless you reboot N900.
Is there something saved in cache after google account disconnect? Can it be automatically cleared in the next version of GV plugin? |

What is happening is very odd and very bad. Pre-PR1.2 I made many changes to try to prevent this and PR1.2 also helped a lot with these issues. The problem most likely is that Mission Control (the plugin manager) is getting out of sync with TOR and forgetting that it was even launched. This can happen if TOR takes too long to respond. Could you grab the log file at "~/.telepathy-theonering/theonering.log" and PM it to me? |
Re: Dialcentral 1.0
Would it be hard to develop a widget for Diablo that would simply sit on the desktop and either;
a) Show how many unread SMS and Vmails are in GVoice/DC (with a time/date stamp on when they came in), and/or b) Show the first, say, 25 characters of the latest SMS in the inbox? Nothing fancy apart from that :) |

Re: Dialcentral 1.0
Heya Ed.
Okay, so I nuked all of my messages. When I send a text, I don't get the immediate notification anymore. I only get the notification if someone texts me back. Once my messages begin to fill up after awhile, then DC will go back to giving me a notification when I do send a text. Do you understand why it goes back to having the LED blink when sending a text after the messages fill up to a certain point? |

I forgot, how come you don't use TOR instead? |
Re: Dialcentral 1.0
Actually, I deleted my messages about three days ago, let them fill up, and deleted them again like 10 or so more times.
And yeah, I'm almost positive that by doing this, I'm only getting a notification when receiving a message and not both receiving and sending like before. I haven't used TOR because I have yet to try it. :( I'll give it a whirl later tomorrow. :) |

Re: Dialcentral 1.0
Hi all,
Set up DialCentral with GV and sipgate on an N800 with OS2008. Works great except for an annoying 'Internet Call' volume bug. When placing an outgoing call using DialCentral, GV generates an incoming call. Internet Call launches when answering the incoming call. At this point, volume is muted (or zero), regardless of what is shown on the Internet Call volume bar. There are no outgoing ring tones to listen to, and if the person called answers, you can't hear them. However, adjusting the volume bar at any time Internet Call is open fixes the problem. Unfortunately, this has to be done every time. In short, when placing a call with DialCentral the Internet Call app initializes with volume = 0 (even though it shows volume = something), which means you can't hear the person you called until adjusting the Internet Call volume slider. Hoping some folks here can provide a work-around. Thanks in advance! |

Hmmm, nobody else has any comments on this volume quirk? Would love to find a work-around or patch that doesn't involve fiddling with the volume bar every time I use DialCentral.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0
Is there a way to add contacts to Google Voice through this app? I can't seem to find a way other than adding it to my system and using mail for exchange to sync.

Something that is supported is CSV contact lists. If you put them in a special location they can be offered as alternatives to the GV contact list. |
Re: Dialcentral 1.0
This reply is mostly for epage. I installed your google voice plugin from extras-devel 0.8.19-0 on my N800 and it does not have the same 'Internet Call' volume bug as DialCentral. Just thought I would pass this along.
So far, the google voice plugin seems to work good, and it's nice to use the 'Internet Call' rather than another app. In your opinion, is 0.8.19-0 safe, or should I wait until it is promoted to extras-testing or extras? |
Re: Dialcentral 1.0
Hey Ed.
Not much of a bug since there's an easy fix for this. But I've noticed that when you don't clear out a super huge text conversation, whenever you double click on the conversation, it just refreshes and doesn't allow you to respond anymore. But yeah, just going to the Google Voice web page and nuking the conversation fixes this problem quite easily. :) This still is like one of the great tablet apps of it's time. Thank you so much again for this! :D |
Re: Dialcentral 1.0
I am unable to view my contacts list; when I click it I get a message that says "invalid syntax (<string>, line 23)"
Also is there any way to get vibrating or sound notifications? |
Re: Dialcentral 1.0
As a heads up I noticed today that there seems to be some kind of bug with the GV addressbook. I'm investigating.

Uploading to autobuilder right now

Re: Dialcentral 1.0
The issue was that I have a very nasty hack for how I get contacts. Google made a change and for the first time broke it. I've implemented a fix.
This broke texting because when you text a contact I look up all of their alternate phone numbers in the contact list. I've since made every place I apply these hacks a bit more protected. I've only seen the build results for Diablo. I'm hoping that the Fremantle build queues are just a bit more stuffed. The changes are minimal. If people wouldn't mind testing it, I'm about to step away from the computer and would appreciate some feedback on the build. Some yays from people would be helpful because I'm planning on asking to short circuit as much of the testing queue as possible. EDIT Grammer |
Re: Dialcentral 1.0
Will try it out now

Re: Dialcentral 1.0
I don't see it in application manager

Re: Dialcentral 1.0
It's all looking great Ed!
Thank you, thank you! Joy! :D |
Re: Dialcentral 1.0
Works for me.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0
It looks like the Fremantle (n900) builds never happened. I've promoted the Diablo (n8x0) builds to extras.
I've posted to maemo-dev mailing list about the build and for assistance in getting things pushed through quickly. Hopefully people will be able to step up and help. I very much appreciate they work they all do to keep things running. |
Re: Dialcentral 1.0
Can I have the Deb for the plugin 0.8.19-0?
Thanks |
Re: Dialcentral 1.0
OK now install, so far no operation problems

Also I would encourage n900 users to test and vote for TOR and DC to be promoted.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0
Somewhat off-topic.
I'm using Google Talk as well on my computer under Windows XP. It will pop up a little tab for a second if I get a new text then disappear. Is there any way for it to signal a sound as well? I'm not finding an option for this. Oh, and Google Talk is what we should use for Google Voice, yes? |
Re: Dialcentral 1.0
No, Google Talk requires you to install a plugin which doesn't exist for the N900.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0
For reference, I just applied the recent update to DialCentral and my DialCentral icon on Personal Menu stopped working. I would select it and nothing would happen. I discovered that this is because the file that gets launched was moved (optified). The fix is simple -- delete the old icon and drag the DialCentral icon over again.
