ok, so it means nokia will not just send out enough only for the pre-orders and leaving a void for retails. I hope so too, so that i can have the chance to order one before i leave for my holiday in December :) Else i will just have to wait til 2010 then.

i do think we should not argue with each other on which date or who is more correct - we all share the passion and hope to get it soon, and no one (even some from Nokia here in the forum) can promise a real date when the device will arrive at our doorstep.

keep cool, and be nice.

this thread wasn't intended for moaning. it was intended for reports n900s arriving to people. this was started soon after the official announcement that n900s has been shipped. but now, the torrent of stupidity and moaning has again ruined another thread.

n900 shipping delayed would be better thread for now, don't you think?

Then perhaps it should be closed until one does?

No point, it's like cutting off a Hydras head. Though I do believe the thread should be moved into off-topic.

When the Nokia N900 was announced, I figured it was just what i wanted. hence i pre-ordered it from Amazon sometimes around September. ( I Don't live in the US and i had to get a close friend to pre-order on my behalf so i sent money to re-emboss him ) later when Newegg came with a lower price i informed my friend to cancel with amazon and order with newegg instead. later the shipment was pushed back to November. fair enough i can still get my product before xmas. has it stands now. all major retailers are now saying early December, or even January. Sure am not saying Nokia is responsible for this. but for Christ sake I pre-ordered the N900 even before the Droid, and HTC HD2 was announced and those devices are already out. yet i still don't know when i will get my N900. as it stands the most realistic date is January. 5 month after i pre-ordered the device*** am starting to think .. is it really worth it this pre-order business because all it does it just get you hyped up for nothing.. I could has well just use something now and wait for the device to really be out. then i can purchase it. And yeah i stand by my point that the who N900 release/shipment, pre-order business is a fiasco .. from a consumer's point of view. Who is responsible for this fiasco is a moot point. No body should have to pre-order a $500+ device and have to wait for 5 month before it is delivered.

Unfortunately nokia looks much like a snail. I still remember when they produce 6 smartphones per year.

End of the month is next week... not so bad. I just hope it doesn't get delayed again!

Buying the phone from Nokia direct was always going to mean you get it slightly faster... MPD will be the first 'chain'. Also 20th is still a rumour along with all other posts on this forum.

MPD have had the link redirecting to Nokia Retail (that says late November) for awhile now.

No one's doubting you, and you probably are correct... yet you don't know for sure.

Well that wasnt the most helpful reply was it?

Lottery numbers? Im not asking them to predict the future. This is a product that Nokia and ONLY Nokia are in control of. I am not asking for super powers to be used. I am not looking for the meaning of life. Just some basic consideration for the growing fanbase of this device - give us some info! Address us directly! I expect the marketing department at Nokia are tearing their hair out because they DO appreciate the negative effect this lack of info creates.

And re the rest of your post, what a waste of type. Yawn.

I appreciate that info does trickle through eventually, but when I had 16th of November pencilled in as an exciting day, to hit the internet and see NO new info at all, certainly not from Nokia, was pretty disappointing.

Anyway, going round in circles here.

Lets hope we all see this device landing soon. I agree there's no need for outright flaming of Nokia and the helpful Maemo folk on here, but I think both sides here should consider each other's point of view a little more.

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

First post had to be about N900 delivery. Thought i would comment on my latest discussion with MPD. They have told me that it has been shipped to the UK and is in a warehouse in the UK now. It is at this point Nokia has now delayed the device from shipping to resellars. When asked when i would have the device in my hands i was told "next week or the week after i guess" MPD rep also confirmed that my N900 brought on T-mobile contract was unlocked and unbranded so at least i can be happy about that if not the delivery.

Cheers

No information since the devices "shipped" and no real status updates by any channel partners since Tuesday when Nokia said they shipped. If there are any fellow logistics people here that deal with shipments, you will know the answer.

The N900's were probably shipped by boat.

Why oh why you listen and believe the retailers (they WANT your order so will very readily make up dates to get your cash) I have no idea.

People need to use their brains a bit in this thread.

I really try not to insult people who don't share my views.. and I will try to uphold that standard.

First of most people here did not pre-order from Nokia directly. many of us ordered from amazon, newegg, dell etc. And after Nokia announced it was shipping we, we were disappointed to find out that most of the retail outlet pushed back their expected delivery date. ( which is not in line with the shipping announcement by Nokia) Amazon and Newegg have set early December as likely delivery date. And they have said even this is not written on stone. AFAIK we are in the dark as to what is really going on. 3 month after making a pre-order we still don't know when we should expect our device. This is not how things would be done.

The N900's were probably shipped by boat.

As long as it wasn't by Royal Mail then it might make it before the end of the same year shipped!

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

Folks, they are on a boat- that is why we are in the dark and Nokia does not want to admit this, since they do not want to pi55 even more people off.

They probably saved a couple dollars per unit shipping by boat. This is an estimate, since pallet weight is the actual bulk charge (not counting other fees etc).

Probably.

You canīt save a couple of $ doing it though. It costs very little pper N900 if you fill a plane with them to fly them Korea to Europe/US.

They might save 60-70 cents per phone by doing this, but thatīd be pretty darn stupid.

That's what I think to, by boat it would take another 2-3 week or more. That would be more costly for them by not filling up pre order. When you ship a very large quantity by plane it doesn't cost so much

Devil 2009-11-17 14:17

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

uhm

shipping like 30000 n900's is like 2 - 3 sea containers?
thats 1 or 2 cargo planes?
and 1/100th of the load that goes on a freight container ship.
well. i think that'll be a bigger difference than 60/70 cts per unit.

other perspective:

50c per unit difference on a 30000 load is 15000$
5$ per unit differnece on a 30000 load is 150000$

what is their profit on an n900 is 100 $ average. that would be the same as selling 1500 units.

difference on total shipping for all n900's, say in total they ship 500 000 units.
the amount is 15 times as much. so 225000 or 2.250.000 $

big amounts

pfff i don't know. someone fill me in plz

Rushmore 2009-11-17 14:19

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

You guys are right, just depends on a few things comparing to air delivery,

1. Air bulk freight
2. Air expedited freight (this also involves paying "fees" to the local government inspection group for customs)

Even if by boat and there is a queue at port for outbound, there are still additonal "fees" that need paying if you want to jump the line, so to speak.

Net result is a unit price impact of .50 to almost $2 per unit. Just depends on the total cost of all the logisitics parameters getting product from factory to channel partners point of shipment control (inbound).

Plus my perspective is that we almost always shipped launch product expedited air.

Added:

Still, I bet our N900's are probably on some funky a55 container bobbing along the sea.
