Post race then! Think I might bribe the postman, he doesn't live too far away from me. Everyone needs extra cash around xmas Looks like there are quite a few from South Yorks

T-mobile or Vodafone? I'm wondering whether they processed them based on contract as well.

Still think they haven't updated some pages. You know how useless they are with that. They had due late Nov in December for god sake. Wouldn't worry. Did you PAC your old number or have any problems early on?

N97 - same story as all Nokia mobiles. N95 and N96 were both awful when they started life. They needed multiple firmware updates. My N96 works like a dream now... Its just not MY dream!

Nokia will definitely release a Maemo 6 smartphone/computer next year - they'd fail as a company if they didn't carry on taking the fight to the iphone/smartphone industry...

Exactly. With Nokias track record of support it is the open-source nature of the N900 that makes it so promising.

If Nokia do their usual trick of not delivering what they promised, there is a reasonable chance someone will hack the feature in anyway.

Also I can't see them ditching the N900 quite that soon, as the 5800XM is still getting firmware updates and that has been out a while now.

They are also at serious risk now of of alienating all their fans, as they release buggy after buggy device. Granted, the N900 doesn't sound too bad but people will see its feature-incomplete state is the same as a buggy device. So unless they add the functionality to the N900 people expect (or the community does), who is going to trust them on their next device?

Because I've had my tracker changed to ready for despatch and I ordered 26th Oct on the same contract. So that's not the reason why yours hasn't been changed.

They seriously better not ditch it... release a bleeding edge device then forget about it? This is where nokia always goes wrong... always looking to make another incarnation of the same hardware, forgetting the rest of us...

BTW, what does 'ready to despatch' actually mean? Does it just mean that they have received stock or that they are boxed/packaged and ready to be thrown on the Royal Mail truck? ;)

The former, if they were boxed and ready to throw on the truck I am pretty sure we would also have been charged.

Probably just giving us something to hope for... And yeah, I think it must be in batches. I mean, they can't be expected to dispatch 100s of phones on one day..?!

Yeah i think it's for late and new orders, not Sept-Oct preorders.

Exactly. I assume they have now received a batch, assigned to sequence of orders (hence Ready For Dispatch status) and now getting into the process of charging individual orders and dispatching them. That's at least what I suppose is happening, knowing how eCommerce business roughly works from inside.

Where is this 5 day thing coming from?

There's no reason they couldn't ship them all out today... There is also reasons why they couldn't though! Lol.

I hope they aren't trying to shut us up! We've definitely paid for next day delivery...

Does depend if they do actually have it in stock - they may be pre-empting to shut us up for a few days :)

But i'd guess anyone with ready to despatch means they should get it sooner - all a guess. Waiting for the first "I've got mine post" would be helpful if anyone who does get it posts their order date and contract type :) - so we all get a clear idea!!

Anyone a Nov order had their "Ready for Despatch" yet. That might be the first batch for deliveries Sept and Oct? Not many in Sept from previous posts and most seem to be Nov orders as the word of N900 on contract has spread. Fingers crossed eh.

Went into my local CPW and Phones4U and the sales ppl didn't even know what the N900 was and tried to sell me crappy X6. Just laughed!

Really? My N96 is a complete dog even though I'm all up to date. Constant reboots, mystery occasional battery running flat in 12 hours despite no apps running, unable to stay connected to via wifi for longer than 5 minutes, completely unable to download a podcast via 3G the list goes on. I will be SO glad to get shot of it tomorrow....

Really?! You running v30? That's all very very odd... Its not the most slick thing in the world, but I'm getting 2 days usage (fairly heavy) without charge. Lots of apps installed (it helped that I hacked it for software of course)...

Oh - and where has this 5 days thing come from? I can't see it on the website...

This isn't good news - well...it is for you of course! But it makes me think that EVERYONE is going to have their status changed to ready for despatch... I wonder whose will actually get shipped. They must be up to the 500 mark now if they're through to November. They've taken around 700 pre-orders. All this coming from Southampton... Royal Mail would need a truck!!

Ok, it looks like even the November orders are getting the same status message, so the question now is in what quantities are they going to be sending them out? From what I understand there have been about 700-800 pre-orders of the device. Is it realistic that they would get all those out in the same day or are we looking at this stretched over a few days?

No - that would be nonsense...

They ship after 3pm (we know that from their delivery page).

Royal Mail Special Delivery is next day...

They'll ship them in order of order being placed... Maybe Royal Mail will have a limit to how many they will take in one go?
