I got to say thx again, guys. And I'm sure I'll keep on saying it. :)

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Hey, i bought new n900(new) 3months ago and i have to say that i am wondering if it was good choice.

I now register to tell you that i am really thankful for what you are doing, its amazing that few people are spending time to create something that multitrylion(:P) company cant.

I dont care about 1000s of apps, maemo has all necessery ones, but there is one thing that i miss in n900, smoothness, i know it might be stupid, but its just great when mobile reacts to your touch perfectly!
I know it is connected with lack of vsync so i was wondering maybe you will find a way to fix it?(new drivers from megoo?) is there any chance?

I wanted also to let you know that reboot loop problem happend to me twice. I also was using modified transitions.ini from MaeModder and simply added blurless=1 and other options at the end of the file(i did it twice because i am stupid) Anyway i just reinstalled system and now i am going to use CSSU transitions.ini and modify values. Hope it will work this time. I think you should somehow warn people in WIKI or something.

One last thing. Is creating portrait mode almost as easy as aligning everything with css? If yes let me know, i will digg into it little more and try to help out. I only have skills with everything WEB.

ps1: n900 is truly mobile pc(with real full multitasking, thats going to be forgotten because of 'new' OSes) and thats why it beats everything else.

ps2: THANK YOU GREAT JOB!!!

Yeah. I'm just wondering if the reboot is really required on every update, or is it "just in case" that when you update through HAM it always reboots? After all the beauty of debian/apt should be that you rarely need to reboot.

I think reboot is done to get all updated programs restarted (hildon-home, hildon-desktop etc).

When updated without HAM, reboot isn't forced but needed to see the changes. Personally, I don't have any problem with updating with Faster Application Manager :)

hmmm...i seem to be having some freezing issues and the screen blacking out when a call comes in since i updated today! :/

overall, it seems to be "stuttering" along.

the email when i open it...my yin-yang sign that spins when updating stays frozen, the stutters, then frozen. and stays there even while i scroll through email.

I installed 12.5. Thank you so much for the 5 extra desktops and the other changes of course.
It isn't the so called end of life for the N900 by Nokia. You can better speak of a rebirth, thanks to the great job of the CSSU team.

Some feedback:
Background and theme is only working for the first four desktops, but I think you know it yourself as well.
Live wallpaper is working well on those 5 extra desktops.

The rate of updates is very good.

Hey guys,

Firstly, outstanding work everyone.. :)

I searched the thread but didn't find the answer; I just noticed that (at least) settings and the status menu have started auto-rotating with one of the recent CSSU updates.

I looked through /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini but didn't see anything obvious; is there a way to disable this new behavior?

I prefer to keep everything in landscape mode.

F2thaK 2011-02-26 04:02

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Rate of update ratio:

Nokia : CSSU
1 : 365

Noki-huh? Who?

These updates have taken me back to when I first got my N900, when you got updates every day from multiple apps and *some* from Nokia. Except now it is not a baby, its mature and if you are "subscribed" to the CSSU Project you get small weekly updates plus end-users can help by testing and submitting bug fixes, wishlists and reports to help shape the device they want.

Great work guys, I will be donating some money to the project soon.
Where can I do that BTW?

I have found some bugs:
-lock slider screen rotates so bg gets broken
-have to press power button twice (cant do it quickly either) to show lock slider screen

Have one suggestion: make the 'zoom on press' effect configurable.

A BIG THANKS to everyone on the CSSU Team!

I/We appreciate the frequent updates! I think at least one update a week would be awesome...

All you have to do is:
- upgrade the Theme Customizer to 0.9-69
- run these commands in terminal after upgrade:
Code:

sudo gainroot
apt-get update
apt-get install --reinstall hildon-home

- reboot the phone or run Theme Customizer to get new hildon-home restarted and you should have 9 desktops available.

Note that this will make the "resize shortcut icons" funcion @ Theme Customizer useless, it won't work.

User who does not have CSSU installed won't notice any difference, they still have ability to resize the icons.

Edit: package is now in repos:
http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...0.9-69_all.deb

So is these are the steps to convert the Landscape N900 to Portrait N900 ?

Anyways Thanks...:)

Change "Zoom to press" not zoom.

You should notice a little 'bump' (a brief zoom in and out) when pressing menu key, title bar, close key, etc. The name of the property is zoom_on_press and you don't have to reboot inbetween, it should work the moment you've saved your transitions.ini.

Out of interest does the reinstallation of hildon-home replace any modified fonts that have been placed in /usr/share/fonts/nokia?

I had a custom font for all menus etc but since reinstallation of hildon-home I have reverted to the standard Nokia ones (nosnb.ttf, nosnr.ttf, nosnr.ttf, nosns.ttf) even though the fonts I replaced were renamed. If that makes sense.

I'll add some details to my previous post :)

If you're using Theme Customizer's custom transitions, then edit this file and after editing run TC once:
/opt/theme-customizer/transitions.ini

If you don't use TC's transitions, then check first this folder if there's transitions.ini present:
/etc/hildon/theme/

If there is; then edit that file. If not, then edit this:
/usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini

-------

I'll release an update to TC soon which detects if you have CSSU installed and if there is it offers you GUI to tune these extra options @ transitions.ini. I think that will make life easier for you guys who don't know which transitions.ini to edit :)

Thanks for your time spent resolving these issues, I wonder if there is any chance of you increasing your themes to have 9 desktops as I assume most users using the CSSU will go for more than 4 desktops now.

Renaming them all individually seems to take me forever if I decide to change my theme.

I'm still thinking the best way to approach this.

I think the most important buttons, in portrait, are - in order:
  1. Next/prev
  2. Delete
  3. Reply
  4. Reply all
  5. Forward
  6. Display images

Since in portrait five buttons can be shown, I suggest, from left to right:

[Reply] [Reply All] [Delete] [<] [>]

If someone produces a "patch" package (like #11976 for Conversations), and it doesn't damage default functionality, and the features are stable; upgrading Ovi Maps is perfectly feasible.
