Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
I just posted that at the phoronix forums. It's the score for firefox 21 on linux. That's why he is saying that he expects that.

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
I'd say go with the figures you get for the RIM Z10 running BBX.
SailfishOS should be about as powerful (could be less, we don't quite know) and the hardware (SoC) I suspect would be equals. Z10 scores bewtween 410 - 485. Jolla fone should score between 380 - 480, I think. |

Anyway you can blow that^ picture up? I can't see a lot of the detail.

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
He's joking. That's links or something similar.
|
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
it would be silly if jolla first phone is not edge to edge phone
z10 is ugly with that long bezel |
I expect a functional and smooth browser. Thats all.
how about other stuff? Some stuff to show how powerful the os is? |
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
Me? Expecting something new and innovative.
Plus lots of buzz words in some threads over hear, such as:WTF, epic fail, deabreaker. |

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
Here's what I think Jolla should be:
-5.2 inch phone (c'mon everyone here wants it) -720p IPS with capacitive screen -Bezelless, no front buttons like N9 -9mm thickness (or thinner) -Rectangle with rounded corners (like the aPhone) -1.5GHz S4 Dualcore, 2GB RAM, 16GB NAND -microSD, microUSB, usual gadgetry -dual front loudspeakers and dual mics -notifications light and a KICKSTAND -8MP lackluster camera/led but VERY high-quality 2MP front cam -A unibody phone with a bottom flap to insert the SIM card, microSD card and removable battery (2,000mAh) ....something that's a mid-class device but unique because it makes simple decisions that are better for the user in terms of (OS, ergonomics, styling etc) PS No hardware keyboard. Don't need it when you've got a keyboard like Kii keyboard (a blend of Swype and SwiftKey). But I think an attachable, hardware keyboard would be good addition for people who want to code, or like to chat with haptics. Should just clamp via USB so it doesn't drain battery and perhaps have its own battery to charge the phone in the meantime. |

Also 5.2-inch only if it truly is bezelless, that I doubt a bit. |

I prefer fitting a 720p 4.0'' (or 4.2'') display on the N9 dimensions. dope. |

And give me a hardware keyboard so I can make optimal use of that glorious gently on the eyes 4,2" surface non-pentile LCD. |
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
Go phablet yourself.
|
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
hope for a bezelless 4.0-4.3" amoled display. i wish it has the low power mode like the n9.
hwkb is a nice to have |

90% of people want a phone in the pocket, not a tablet. As said, N9 dimension with a bit of a larger screen (0.2in) would be perfect. |
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
4.2 / 4.5 I could live with!
BUT there a big trend in china that bigger is better, So i think there is a hight change we will see something close to 5 or even more |
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
5 or bigger is a must.
Galaxy note fits easily in your pocket. |

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
4.7inches feels just right for me now :) everything else feels too small mainly due to my fat fingers.
|
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
Most of my serious gadgety stuff is done using my tablet(s) past 2 years and so my use of phones has changed quite a bit.
I would be ok with Lumia 925 kind of dimensions. The screen can be as big as it fits there. Certainly not any bigger. |
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
I'm glad to hear that "bigger is better" in China course I will be really disappointing if jolla releasing a device smaller than 4. 7. That gives me hope.
|
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
what if the other half was a smart watch? During GMIC he had an orange watch on his wrist which perhaps matched the orange phone in his shirt pocket? That would truly be unlike anything else
|
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
So everyone is throwing specs, here is my shot:
- a screensize between 3.9-4.9 inches, so you can reach every spot on the screen with one hand. I guess Marcs input on that one will be extremly valuable - sliding keyboard, but slider like the palm pre with a sony ericsson p1 style keyboard layout - dual SIM, this phone is for china - and the rest camera bla bla BT, NFC, standard phone stuff, I don't expect fancy stuff, because Samsung and the others are not putting fancy stuff in theirs as well. |

Yeah, thought so. We all want a super compact device. We all want hardware keyboard. We all want a huge screen. - 5.2in bezelless slab, with a removable keyboard is what everyone on maemo wants. EVERYONE. http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/104/hypnotoadmb8.gif |
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
I'd like to see an E ink display on the back or on the case as an option on their crowdfunding venture or else a case with kickstand.
No actually I'd like the HTC One to get a good sailfish port if this phone is going to be low high end. How about an app that when you clap twice the phone can vibrate across the table towards your voice? ;) There are different sizes of people with different sized hands. Do you really think it is fair to ask a basketball player that is almost 7 feet tall to use the N9 screen? He's going to want a 5 incher. I'm 6'1" so I want a maybe a 4.5 or 4.3 something like that. But regardless I think the sailfish OS kind of needs a large screen in order to make proper one handed use of the "covers" or multitasking UI. |
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
Come all, only a weekend until we know what jolla is up to. Put your speculation hat on and bring us your speculation. Let's speculate...
|
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
Ok, let's speculate :)
Well, i loved the HWKB on the N900, but who needs this, if Jolla builds in something like this. This would really be unlike all others! Oh and according to the browser: I saw that Tizen browser scores 492 points and i'm just expecting more from Sailfish than from Tizen, that's all. and btw i would love to see something like Firebug in that browser... |
Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!
5" would be my absolute maximum, I have tablets if i want more screen real-estate, 4.1" would be my minimum.

Tizen is seriously yawn worthy, but I've no doubt the core hw specs will be industry leading, not sure about aesthetics/BQ though.

Sorted - Just upgraded to this beauty like 30mins ago. Jolla wasn't quick enough - at least for me. I _know_ that this one 'works'.... no experiments.
And yes, it's 4.3''... perfect fit. |

Some Rant
Don't get all this noise. Once upon a time there were huge threads on waiting Maemo5 and then harmattan devices. Everyone loved it, everyone wanted it. I still use harmattan as my everyday phone and pretty happy, but on other side it's dead and not supported. In maemo5 we have some support, but only because of community.
What i hate the most is all those promises, but i do remember, how there were huge threads waiting for bug fixes and updates, speculations on what would be new features and if bugs would be fixed(i lloved those "wontfix" statuses as well). How was the lack of communication and knowing what's gonna happen to your device and what support it would have. Most internet was filled with "awesome device", "true linux", "amazing", "love it" and no actual info. I want to belive that Jolla can do something special and interesting, but on other hand, they don't tell you any actual info, they just make general promises. And as i see the future may be not different from harmattan. I don't see opensource, community involved project to have no actual communication except some pictures and hashtags on twitter with speculations, it's not how it works. Opensource is where it is now only because of communication and collaboration, the information that everyone can get and involvement of community. Here i only see Idols you make and they don't deliver you anything except advertizing(they just want your money after all). So sorry, but you fool me once shame on you, you fool me twice — shame on me. I don't buy it, instead of talking deliver something. Maemo community now struggles to keep alive just to keep alive, as we have no support of Nokia anymore, mer, nemo came from here, a lot of people will buy(contribute with money) from this community, and still i don't see how Jolla tries to keep this community alive except some promises of "cool" phone. It's sad :( |
