nokia is an Open Screen Project partner therefore Flash 10.1 is Royalty Free to them so costs no money for the update. see post 289
only cost for Nokia is allocating a few people to port it to N900 which as already been half done if the adobe n900 demo was real.

Well, that isn't quite right. Or at least not 100% accurate.

Parallel import is goods that are sold on a national market by local actors without going through the national distributor.

In example: Samsung could produce a TV called Model1, in Korea. This TV can be 110/220V compatible, and it may even come with both cables. The official route to a local market could be Samsung Korea - Samsung Western Europe - Samsung Scandinavia - Samsung Sweden - Elshop.se. However, Samsung Scandinavia is a small organization and the TV is expensive before it reaches Elshop.se. So, Elshop.se instead decides to buy the same TV from the larger Elshop.pl who buys it cheaper, directly from Samsung Eastern Europe. They bypass Samsung Sweden and Samsung Scandinavia and even Samsung Western Europe.

The product would still be the same and if Samsung has a world wide warranty, Samsung Sweden might even have to be their service point. Normally they'd deny you that though, and in case of a return things may be more troublesome.

The product, however, would normally not be of poorer quality, like you suggest. Even if they'd deal with Samsung Asia. Poorer quality = counterfeits.

If the ready made existing full linux version worked on Maemo/N900 without adapting, we'd already have it without any help needed from Nokia/Adobe. If the ready made existing version doesn't work without adapting, adapting must be done. Adapting costs.

What we're talking about is not only the licensing fees. Not only the work hours. Work hours are expensive, but also a limited resource which means fewer work hours go elsewhere. There's a cost, and either Nokia or Adobe or both needs to pay it.

Edit: changed it so I'm not making claims about what other people than myself mean. :p

adapting it to maemo 5 was done already, adobe even demoed it, and i'm guessing its already running on maemo6 on a N9 somewhere. so costs will be very little, just needs a little spit polish.

I think you'd be surprised about what spit polish costs when it comes to software development. Also, while Adobe demoed flash, it says nothing about the state of the Flash Player at large. Was it a fully working, complete adaptation, or was it just hacked together enough to, you know, manage to hold a demo?

If you consider that most folk have been wanting/waiting for flash 10.1 since they first released this phone then maybe you can understand how frustrated and severely let down folk are feeling. And if you have ever tried contacting nokia or adobe about this then you may also know that they play the pass the parcel game or try avoidance regarding flash and bury their heads in sand or send you some scripted B.S. that is utterly meaningless.

just my 2 cents worth!!!!

It's Nokia's fault though not directly. Nokia recomended retail price is $1150NZD, basically always over $1000 price range on any new Nokia N-series. My first 6680 was released 8months oversea before it reached NZ and sold at $1100NZD oversea is $500NZD, My N95-1 is 7months released else where and hit NZ after that cost $1200NZD, My N93-i $1180 released after 1year over sea. lol damn!

I spent so much grands on Nokia phones.Nokia NZ is ripping NZders of big time.

buy on ebay for AUD 300 to AUD 400

What's the difference? If PR 1.3 doesn't come out before 12/21/2010, what's the point of waiting? ;)

In seriousness, an off-the-cuff joke became an unintentional thread hijack. Sorry about that. :D

Mine doesn't have Flash 10.1 either, and when I bought it I was under the clear understanding that Flash 10.1 would be coming. Wanting doesn't mean getting, that's all I am saying.
