@ pail: Who is the author of compcache notify patch? I want to ask him some questions re other changes introduced with it

@others - semi-success with compcache, with "swap free notifications" disabled and some kernel cache management patches it seems to work stable, I've been able to use 160MB ramzswap0 device with no obvious problems. Later on will post kernel and compcache patches here, so anyone interested to be able to test them. Enabling notifications always leads to crash, still have no idea what the reason is.

Eagerly awaiting! Perhaps you could then start a new thread for that specific matter, since it easily drowns in this one?

Start a new thread please freeman, this is one of the most exciting developments since injection capable wifi drivers.

Yes yes yes yes, true, so true.

Compcache is the the feature I've been waiting for months.

I'm not sure the device in use problem is kp48 related.

Last time I experienced this problem I had a queen beecon accessing images in MyDocs..
When you connect by usb make sure there are no open programs running (like filebox) which may be accessing MyDocs.
Try connecting immediately after rebooting the phone as the desktop loads.

The only other way to access your system reliably is to install OpenSSH-server from the repository, and connect to it wirelessly using WinSCP.

I've also installed latest Busybox power, so I'm also not sure which one - kp48 or busybox - cause this oddity.

// Edit

It's possible, that people with R&D mode enabled, won't meet that problem (watchdogs disabled). So, please write about Your R&D mode status, while confirming/denying this issue. I got R&D mode off.

Also, when gaining root in xterm via "sudo gainroot" running leafpad ("leafpad", just to open blank), then choosing "save as", leafpad crashes with seagfault. I don't know if that is related though, haven't tested this exact method before.

Confirm. Happened to me at least twice while editing QtLockscreen configs in /opt. KP48 xlv profile @805MHz w/ Smartreflex fully enabled, and Speedpatch / Batterypatch running. But w/o R&D mode.

On a side note, are the injection drivers still unstable on kp48?

Hmm, Maemo 5 + 2.6.28.10-power48 + compcache + lxp's wl1251. Great stuff!

Does your PC have a WiFi card built in? If it does you night be able to create an AdHoc Wifi connection without a router.. http://unlockforus.blogspot.com/2008...-hoc-wifi.html

Getting back to the USB problem. Have you tried connecting the phone during reboot?
You can try connecting in PC Suite mode, or If all else fails reflash your N900. Maemo will be back to factory reset, but your mails, call history, SMS messages and files should still be intact on the eMMC and MyDocs.

Back to the matter at hand, I'd be happy to test any new patches for compcache :)

If your N900 is connected (has a publicly accessible IP address) and your computer/laptop too, then you can use SSH.

You say you don't have a router, but can we assume that you have a computer connected via ADSL/dial-up/cable/... ?

If so, try to start the SSH server on your N900 and connect from your PC. Report any errors you get (preferably in another thread, as your problem is 99.99999% not related to KP48 or any kernel for that matter).

Yes, you can save root owned files in leafpad, but not when you started leafpad as user, cause then the "save as" requester appears, normaly.

I also have busybox installed, but not updated it after I installed v48, so the reboot is caused by v48 handling the segfault (like Estel said) different then v47.

When you repeat the same thing 4-5 times in a row - its spamming, something you have a history of doing on this forum.

Needless to say, your problem probably isn't even related to kernel-power since you use patches/tweaks of conspicuous nature.
The only way to test is if you reflash your phone and install kernel-power only and nothing else but you are not willing to do that - hence, stop spamming this thread.

Uh-oh. Confirmed that ramz blows up on power48. Made a 128MB disk, swapon ramzswap0, swapon blk0p3, swapoff blk1p3, swapon blk1p3, swapoff blk0p3.

Fired up Libreoffice, device hung for a few seconds, and rebooted. /dev/mtd2ro shows a lot of 00000000's.

Yep BH-214 disconnects after around 10-30 seconds.
If you listen closely as I remember you can hear rasp or a beep, after that its disconnected.
But this doesnt have to do with KP48, its the same in KP47 and stock kernel too (I think).

As far as I know the only BT HS that works flawless i BH-903.
N900 BT compability isnt that topnotch :(

SSH works regardless of how your computers are connected. It's just an IP (TCP) based protocol. Whether you have a router, a WLAN, or a 3G connection is irrelevant.

Now. Make sure both your computer and your N900 have an IP address and a proper routing table (= are connected to the internet, try loading the google.com webpage or whatever).

If both are connected, then ssh from your computer to your N900. If it doesn't work, report on another thread (or possibly in another forum, as the problem might be related to your connection, cable modem, etc, etc.)

Good luck. But please stop "spamming" (whether you agree with the term or not), because your problem is NOT related to KP48.

Hey, problem with leafpad crashing, when "saving as" from root is real - everyone testing have it - and, everyone agree that it's caused by kp48.

From observations, it may be caused by a way that - after a kp48 upgrade - system handle segmentation faults.

Pali, any ideas?

Nope It works flawlessly with stock kernel. Moreover it worked flawlessly with all KP versions below and including 46.
I probably have to try vanila reflash and installing kp46 if it is still available, because it looks like kp47 brought sth that is used regardless of kp version.
So basically it means that if I try to uninstall kp48 and get kp46 it would still will be broken. I really wonder why.

But I can confirm that stock kernel doesnt have these problems.

Do You have R&D mode enabled, by any chance? It may prevent reboot happening, due to watchdos being disabled.

If that is not the case, I would be left scratching head - there are numerous reports about this problem around forum, and every one seems to be related to kp48.

// Edit

Also, what do You use to become root? "rootsh" package?

evan 2011-08-27 19:36

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

no r&d enabled. maybe anything to do with busybox replacement? it had many updates recently..
edit: rootsh yes
edit 2: sudo leafpad->save as ->leafpad crashes
sudo gainroot->segmentation fault
root behaves well.
I dont't think it has anything to do with the kernel.
we should be looking elsewhere

Only two things I've been updating from 100% no problem state were kp48 and busybox-power. Ho ever, rolling back to old busybox-power doesn't fix the problem.

I got all crash andsegfault symptoms You've mentioned, except for fact that with root it reboots device. Can You please install busybox-power and check results, to be 100% sure?
