You should live with it or learn to manage your internet connection/stopping internet applications manually.

About this: what about adding a connect/disconnect cover action? I kinda remembered it was there, but when I went to set it a couple of days ago I only found "Exit" (which is not what I want: I want to be able to disconnect from whatsapp without having to close Mitakuuluu, I can do it with the pulley menu in the app, but it would also be useful to have super-quick as a cover action).

I have no problem with trading a bit of battery life for a more reliable message delivery, but if the battery goes down in like 1h idle and the phone gets so hot you could boil an egg on it I don't think its a good tradeoff ;)

@coderus - with nemo keepalive should mitakuuluu wake jolla from deep suspend periodically when on wifi?

coderus 2014-06-16 16:10

Re: [v0.8.0] Mitakuuluu - indie WhatsApp client for Sailfish - Support thread

@seiichiro0185you should expect that behaviour when application reconnects 10-20 times in a half of hour because weak connection
@egnat69 not forced, its synchronized with system heartbeat timers

Re: [v0.8.0] Mitakuuluu - indie WhatsApp client for Sailfish - Support thread

Anecdotally, I was also on a train, then when I got to my destination (with good 3G), I found that the daemon was stuck at 100% cpu - killing and restarting sorted it out, but it had used a fair amount of battery on my train journey without me noticing, and hadn't fixed itself when back in an area of good reception.
I don't know how best to debug this, and whether it's a problem in Mitakuuluu or the Jolla networking implementation. Maybe stepping in and out of an elevator to simulate signal loss!

And also I still get the problem that Mitakuuluu thinks it's connected, but doesn't get messages. I have "Quit" set to the cover actions for this reason, and frequently restart in case a network transition has confused the daemon. So for me, the aggressive reconnect isn't even aggressive enough!
(Although the latest version hides the cover actions when not connected, so if it gets stuck when it thinks it's disconnected, I need to go in and quit with the pulley menu)

I should say (not for this thread to be wall-to-wall complaints) that otherwise Mitakuuluu is great, and the pace of development and bugfixes is impressive - many thanks to coderus!

A n00b question:

"Before starting new Mitakuuluu you need to shutdown existing version" What does shutting down the existing version mean? Do I need to uninstall it? :)

Has anybody noticed that "save chat history" is now only saving a record of the time and date of messages and not the content. Is this right or am I doing something stupid....?

I prefer a low power consumption and I am pleased with the former behavior of Mitakuuluu. So I reinstalled version 0.7.7-2.

Would it be possible to change the connection behavior in the settings?

coderus 2014-06-17 10:10

Re: [v0.8.0] Mitakuuluu - indie WhatsApp client for Sailfish - Support thread

@Jordi no. you should quit mitakuuluu if your connection is weak.

Re: [v0.8.0] Mitakuuluu - indie WhatsApp client for Sailfish - Support thread

https://together.jolla.com/question/...-after-update/

There is some bug in SailfishOS 1.0.7.16 version that causes this battery draining. I think it has nothing to do with mitakuuluu, because i got this massive battery draining after quiting mitakuuluu, also tried uninstall but battery keeps draining very fast. Now it's about 7% per hour without using anything and mitakuuluu is not even running.

Hope there will be soon some quickfix so i doesn't have carry extra batteries with me on summer festivals :D

There is an update of Android support in Jolla shop whitout changelog. Maybe, as NuklearFart user commented, it solves battery the problem... https://together.jolla.com/question/...#post-id-47429

@coderus I was looking at Location.qml, and was wondering are the different implementation of the different map APIs just provided by Qt5, or have I missed something?

dont use latest version if your connection is unstable and loosing frequently.

kpblxa 2014-06-19 18:09

Re: [v0.8.0] Mitakuuluu - indie WhatsApp client for Sailfish - Support thread

connection is stable, i think what caused the issue is the import of account information from android. as this is what it came up when lunched first time. however manual registration fixed the issue

Hey coderus, do you have an rpm of the previous version of Mitäkuuluu available? I'm having connection problems with my device (https://together.jolla.com/question/...after-a-while/) and I think this new version of Mitäkuuluu might have something to do with it (in that the new version might have uncovered a bug in Sailfish).

The reason I think there might be a connection is because I've had the connection issues for a couple days, but Mitäkuuluu has always been running. I quit Mitäkuuluu about three hours ago and there haven't been any connection issues yet, so it seems like this latest version does something which uncovers a bug in Sailfish.

Re: [v0.8.0] Mitakuuluu - indie WhatsApp client for Sailfish - Support thread

no sorry, i'm not keeping old versions on my pc, you may ask it in community or build sources with version tag you need.

nthn 2014-06-20 16:03

Re: [v0.8.0] Mitakuuluu - indie WhatsApp client for Sailfish - Support thread

Okay thanks, I'll take a look at building it myself.

Edit: turns out I'm not very good at that. If anyone has an rpm of v0.7.7, do share!

Edit2: not necessary anymore, Mitäkuuluu seems unrelated to the connection issues.

Re: [v0.8.0] Mitakuuluu - indie WhatsApp client for Sailfish - Support thread

Hi

New jolla user here. Thanks for Mitakuuluu it's great. One issue I have is that when I'm playing music with default media app and receive a msg the sound is stopped for the notification to sound and then resumed, which is a bit disturbing. I remember this happening in wazzap on the n9 but fixed, any ideas on why it's happening and how to fix it? I'm using the "use system chat notifier" setting and it happens both with the UI open and only the service running.

Thanks,

Hi!
I've got same situation of Javiermon.
To avoid that I need to "silence" my Jolla.
By the way, it's not the end of the world....

Re: [v0.8.0] Mitakuuluu - indie WhatsApp client for Sailfish - Support thread

I have one random issue, don't know is it anyway related to mitakuuluu, but it's affect to it and is easy to notice with it.

So sometimes when I open mitakuuluu, it just wont work. UI works but otherwise not. Then I close it (full quit or UI close) and open again and it ask to register again, I do that and settings are also resetted. All conversation and recent contact are however in place.
Broblem is been there for long, at least three past sailfish update.

Same setting lost can be noticed when opening terminal when it pop up the first time about screen open.

Haven't notive this setting lost with any other software than these two.

Maybe I didn't make my self clear, what really happens is that the notification sound is played above the music. Doesn't happen to you? What are the application settings you use?

Thanks,

coderus 2014-06-21 14:39

Re: [v0.8.0] Mitakuuluu - indie WhatsApp client for Sailfish - Support thread

i mean different. it's not issue. start music, open mail client, check emails / wait for sms/mms / whatever producing notification with sound in sailfish, and your music will be paused exactly same as "mitakuuluu does"

;)
