Saying Hello to everyone!

Reading here since February quite regularly, owning my own "brick" for 3 days now.

Did a lot of reading before purchase, hence I'm more than happy.

Like it to stream media via my dockstar (mediatomb) and logging into it via ssh. Skype's great, as well as all the possibilities for customization...so, to make it short, I'm in love! ;)

Thanks to everyone contributing @maemo.org!
Without you, the N900 wouldn't be what it is today.

Cheers
Jimmey

Hello everyone, I'm an Irish N900 owner for about six months now and I don't regret a single thing about the purchase.

I've only registered with the Maemo community recently since I started a college project involving the N900, but I've used it as a reference ever since I owned the phone.

Glad to have joined.

Got mine N900 a few days ago. Really impressed by what its capability. I've also used other linux handhelds (the sharp zaurus and netwalker) but was never satisfied, mainly due to the lack of phone functions. Here comes this beast that beats them hands down. To me the N900 is truly a "swiss-knife" device. Apparently most of the early complaints about the system and UI in the early reviews now seem to have been resolved. I am so happy now. :-)

Hi I am a user from Ghana. Currently the phone does not recognise the memory, even after flashing, and I am just left with 400 odd megabytes. It is still with the Nokia center in my country, and I am beginning to suspect I will not get any help. Any suggestions? T.

hi there mrexcess here (UK), new here and missed this thread

Mobile device fan big style bin looking for a true GNU/linux device for years and somehow this baby slipped past my radar...until now. Fairly familiar with various distros, mostly deb, but always feel like im catching up

loving the N900, great to see a thriving community around it and some hardworking devs bringing us treats :D

HTC Charmer -> HTC Prophet -> iPhone x2 -> HTC Touch Pro -> SmartQ -> HTC Shift -> Palm Pre -> N900
(like the evolution of mankind i think)

Yes to all of those questions!

I've had an N900 for a long time, but I want to quote a friend who just got one, and her answer to the "is that a phone?" question.

Her answer: "it's everything!"

She was on a cruise ship and the people asking her were duly impressed.

Irony note:

She was on the Carnival Splendor. It's getting a lot of coverage lately. Here is one of today's stories:

Re: New members say hello !

Howdy Y'all,

I just bought an N900 about a week ago and have been fiddling around with it on WiFi ever since. I live in California, and have been a Linux user for about 2 years now. I am enjoying playing with my N900, and I can't wait to get it active as a phone (I am thinking T-mobile, but need to do some more browsing before making a final decision, feel free to hit me with any device regarding that btw).

Anyways, I am looking forward to learning Maemo and having some good old fashioned geekery fun. Hit me up via MSN, AIM, or my website if you want.

Cheers,
Brady

Re: New members say hello !

Greetings all,

I started keeping an eye on here a few weeks ago when pondering the new-old "N900 or N8?" question.

I decided on the one with the keyboard and the Debian-based OS.

I'm a Linux geek for more than a decade now, but don't think Android was done the right way and don't trust anyone except Nokia to reliably build a complete phone hardware package at the moment.

Got my N900 when my ancient N95 broke its ribbon cable, and I haven't enjoyed a new device this much since I had a Qt-based Sharp Zaurus SL5500.

Fantastic to see such a busy forum, guys.

Already got my first life-saving tip:

"sudo apt-get install python2.5-sip4=4.10.5-maemo0" fixes a lot of Python apps like GRead, DropN900. Thank you noobmonkey!

Hello all! Are there any other N900 Users/Developers in the local areas of Virginia, D.C., or Maryland? If so, let's link up at some point--via E-mail or in person--to learn more about our devices.

Easy.

Re: New members say hello !

Hi all!

I just registered and I thought I should introduce myself before I get started.

Actually I found this site a couple of weeks ago as I was researching the N900 device. I am not an owner as of yet but I am pretty sure it wonŽt take too much time until IŽll be.

I have no linux experience what so ever but I am willing to learn new things and I enjoy "wasting" time to do so..,-))

Currently I am on an iPhone 2g and Simple Mobile. I got bored with the device and Apples politics so I started to look for something else.
Price, funcitonality, freedom... that is really what I am looking for.

So yes, thanks for having me and I hope I get a lot of great ideas and future help;-)
G.

Re: New members say hello !

Hi!

User with a broken N800 (touchscreen, anyway) and N900 here. I must admit to preferring the N800 more with its bigger screen, but the N900 can actually play my videos! preenv persuaded me to sell the old Palm Pre

Wouldn't call myself a programmer but after using Linux full-time for a few years now, I've certainly picked up a few C tricks here and there (GNOME related as that's what I run on my desktop). Been lurking around here and sending bug reports to preenv's author, thought it's time to join

Hello
It's been 2 weeks since I'm proud owner of n900, and it is killing my all free time but I'm enjoying it :P
Thanks to all who contributed for this great community!
And here's my today fortune:
Anything labeled "NEW" and/or "IMPROVED" isn't. The label means the price went up. The label "ALL NEW", "COMPLETELY NEW", or "GREAT NEW" means the price went way up.
